with Nancy Badia Buddha Mama is a handmade jewelry line inspired by Buddhism and Eastern traditions. The collection is rooted in the philosophy of contribution and all started at the kitchen table. Looking for a way to raise funds for her local Buddhist center, Zen Village, Nancy Badia began stringing beads and selling bracelets in order to contribute her profits from their sale. After spending 25 years working side by side with her husband, building their family business, Nancy decided it was time to embrace life in a more creative way while continuing to honor her spirituality. Thus, Buddha Mama was born. Nancy and team began traveling the world in search of stones, carvings and artisans who could become creative partners and allow her to bring her renderings to life. Several years and collections later, Buddha Mama has evolved into a fully expressed and unique jewelry line that is carried by boutique, traditional and independent stores across the country as well as internationally, with pieces in each collection that speak to every woman. With one of her daughters by her side, jewelry designer, Dakota Badia, the designs continue to expand and seem endless. In true Buddha Mama fashion, Dakota’s childhood friend, Leyla, joined the team to help run the company and solidify the power of three!
PHILOSOPHY
Buddhism teaches that in order to reach enlightenment, a person must develop two qualities: wisdom and compassion. This was one of the first lessons of Buddhism learned by Nancy Badía, lead designer of Buddha Mama Jewelry.
It is the concept of wisdom and compassion that first led Nancy Badía to step away from the family business and begin her creative journey through service and philanthropic acts. Starting locally, by giving back to her spiritual center as well as those who needed help the most was important. While money is helpful, Nancy wanted to participate in a more personal way. Buddha Mama stands firm in the belief that it is from this giving that creativity flows, and this philosophy is what has allowed the company to grow and develop so fully, so quickly.

n general, “Buddha” means “Awakened One,” someone who has awakened from the sleep of ignorance and sees things as they really are. A Buddha is a person who is completely free from all faults and mental obstructions. It is impossible to describe all the good qualities of a Buddha. A Buddha’s compassion, wisdom, and power are completely beyond conception. With nothing left to obscure his mind, he sees all phenomena throughout the universe as clearly as he sees a jewel held in the palm of his hand.

mandala is a diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a time-microcosm of the universe in a circular pattern which leads to a central point. It originally meant to represent wholeness and a model for the organizational structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows the relation to the infinite and the world that extends beyond and within various minds & bodies. In Buddhism, mandalas created with sand are used as a meditation on impermanence. After days or weeks of creating the intricate pattern involved in a mandala, the impressive image is ruined by brushing the sand into a pile and pouring water over the image. This practice is utilized in order to confront and realize the transient nature of life.
