The topics of Raul Diaz’ paintings are the topics of life. People and history become part of the things that form us from infancy. Memories from his childhood, perhaps simply a series of shapes or figures, often reoccur in my work. We all live in a world struggling with conflicts and how to resolve them. Art either reflects this or sublimates it. Initially Diaz’ work was more realistic and overtly social in content. Today, it has a more poetic vision symbolic of our human existence.
