WOLF KAHN Wolf Kahn is internationally recognized for his masterful combination of Realism and Color Field painting. Influenced by Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse and Giorgio Morandi, Kahn’s signature work features forests and farmlands, emphasizing the vibrant tonalities of light and color. Born in Germany in 1927 and fleeing to England during World War II, Kahn emigrated with his family to New York City. He studied under the seminal Abstract Expressionist Hans Hofmann, eventually becoming his studio assistant. Although Kahn’s artistic practice developed while immersed in Abstract Expressionism, he departed from his contemporaries by incorporating landscape into his painting. His work is included in prominent private and public collections: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Hirschhorn Museum and the National Museum of American Art. Kahn is a member of the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the recipient of numerous awards including a Fulbright Scholarship and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship.
