WANT WANTAGE’S chief charity champion is showing no signs of slowfor 2014. ing down do Ray Collins is taking over the town’s new Mix community space, which launched in December, for two we weeks in February. will use the fortnight, startHe w ing on February 3, to promote several local charities and organisations in the Wantage area. More than 20 organisations have already signed up for a space during the fortnight, and Ray is appealing for more and more to be a part of it. “This is a fantastic opportunity for my causes and several more to raise funds and awareness in a fantastic community space in the heart of Wantage,” he said. “I’m absolutely buzzing about all the fantastic events we’ve got lined up - there is so much to tell people about. “It’s going to be different, it’s going to be fun, and everything’s is in the mix!” Ray will also be using his time to promote a series of upcoming charity initiatives he has lined up. The Welsh Male Voice Choir concert is being held at the Parish Church on March 1. March also marks the return after eight years of the Moonlight Walkabout – a 12-mile stroll along
• Ray Collins the ridgeway on the 22nd. More than 150 people have already signed up for this, something which has taken Ray completely by surprise. “I was thinking about it the other day and talked about it to some friends,” he said. “And I put it on Facebook and it’s gone massive. It’s a bit of fun and a bit of an adventure for people. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.” April 27 will see Wantage Standing up to Cancer hit the town once more, with the Race for Life and 10k cycle to beat cancer. Ray confi rmed the whole of the town square will be closed off as part of the race, which, he says, is a family-friendly route suitable for all ages. All tickets and entry forms for the events will be available from Ray’s stand in the Mix from February 3. “It’s the busiest start to the year I’ve ever had,” he said, “It will be a very long 12 months, but hopefully a very prosperous one as well!”
