USERS of Wootton doctors’ surgery have reacted angrily to a consultation launched by Botcons ley M Medical Centre, who run the branch, which could lead to its bran closure. closu The Wootton surgery has been under threat for several months unde but th there are now increased concerns among residents that Botley Medical Centre are trying to shut the site permanently. A meeting of residents was held in the village’s community centre on Tuesday evening, who were unhappy with a questionnaire supplied by Botley Medical Centre about the future of the Wootton surgery. Sue Srawley, who chaired Tuesday’s meeting, said: “The questionnaire really didn’t address the number of issues that we have raised with Botley as Wootton patients. “It was very glib, very superficial, and was loaded in the information that it asked for. “There is a very entrenched view down d at Botley, which was

reflected in a conversation I had with their Patient Participation Group leader, that Wootton’s surgery presents a significant stumbling block to them. “They regard it as an imposition and as an underused service, and are very determined on having the surgery close. “We really have no confidence in their ability to be objective about what is presented to them, and there’s a very real sense that it’s the beginning of the end.” In a letter sent out to patients by Botley Medical Centre last month, it stated that it was considering withdrawing support for services at the Wootton surgery. It said that 96 per cent of patients preferred to have their appointments at Botley rather than Wootton and that 600 new patients had registered at Botley in the past six months, although these figures have been disputed by supporters of the Wootton surgery.
