were very keen to help the police maintain valuable front counter service in Chipping Norton and are pleased to provide this service from the Guildhall.” Supt Colin Paine, commander for West Oxfordshire and Cherwell, said: “The opening of this new front counter will give residents access to police counter services for an extra 15 hours a week. “It will allow them to visit more easily as it is in a town centre location.” But Chipping Norton mayor Bu Cllr Mike Tysoe questioned whether a police front desk was whe entirely necessary in the town. enti He said: “I’m not sure we par-

ticularly need a front desk, we’ll suck it and see at the end of the day as to whether this works or doesn’t work. “I’m not sure how busy the counter in the police station was, all I do know is for instance in the old days if we were caught speeding we’d have to go to the nearest station to produce all our documents. “That’s all done online or done automatically now, so I think the actual function of the desk is a very muted affair in comparison to what it was 10 years ago. “We are told there will still be a police presence as big as it is at the moment in Chipping Norton, but where it’s going to be based is still up for discussion.” The Guildhall’s police counter is open from 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday.
