JUDGE RULES: COUGH IT UP! Jailed brothers ordered to pay back criminal assets TWO brothers who ran an organised crime gang across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire have been ordered to pay back £221,000 of their ill-gotten gains. Jason Dean, 46, from Ash Grove in Headington and Nicholas Dean, 48, from Roman Way in Bicester, were sentenced to four and a half and eight and a half years in prison respectively back in March 2012. Following their conviction, Thames Valley Police’s Economic Crime Unit began investigating the Deans’ fi nancial background. And last week at Reading Crown Court, it was determined that the pair had benefited from their criminality to the sum of £400,000 between them, equating to £200,000 each. Jason was required to pay a confiscation order for the full amount of his share within 28 days, or he will serve a default of two and a half years and still be required to pay the money. Nicholas was ordered to pay £21,000 from available assets

within six months, although Thames Valley Police has the right to apply to the court and force him to sell any future assets until the figure is fully paid. Det Supt David Poole said: “The Dean brothers ran an organised criminal empire supplying drugs and laundering money, and thought they were untouchable by law enforcement. “As well as depriving them of their freedom, we wanted to ensure they were not rewarded by the proceeds of criminality. “These confiscation orders for £221,000 means they will have to repay a considerable amount of money or face further prison terms and still have to repay it. “Criminals need to be aware that we will continue to bring asset recovery proceedings against them to strip them of their ill-gotten gains, no matter how long it takes or how well they try to hide their tracks.”
