Pupils from 20 schools were invited to take part in the contest, run by the council’s Trading Standards team, to submit entries relating to fi rework safety themes including misuse, the law and anti-social behaviour. Richard Webb, manager for the Trading Standards team, said: “The competition is an opportunity for children to learn about important fi rework safety messages. “Three quarters of accidents connected to fi reworks involve children and young people. “We obviously all want to enjoy fi reworks but everybody needs to know that they can be dangerous if not handled properly.”
