• Nicola Blackwood MP organised Friday’s job fair, along with Jobcentre Plus
OVER 400 jobseekers in Abingdon attended a job fair in the Guildhall on Friday, organised in partnership by Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood and Jobcentre Plus. Fifteen participating employers took part in the fair, including representatives from across the employment spectrum, including the armed forces, Greggs, Lombard Medical and a range of others. There was also support from Jobcentre Plus, Abingdon and Witney College and the National Careers Service, offering advice to jobseekers and students during the day. Ms Blackwood said: “The Jobs Fair today was buzzing with excellent local businesses looking for staff and hundreds of talented, enthusiastic people looking for work and training opportunities. “Jobcentre Plus were great to work with organising the fair. “I am determined to continue
doing all I can to boost local job opportunities, and help get those people struggling to fi nd employment back into work.” Kerry Donnelly, adviser for the National Careers Service, added: “The Abingdon Job Fair was well attended by people looking for work and by employers looking to recruit. “It was fantastic to be part of such an excellent and vibrant event, which highlighted the job opportunities in South Oxfordshire. “As a National Careers Service adviser, I was delighted to attend to help raise awareness of our service and signpost people to appointments in the local area, helping them make decisions on learning, training and work opportunities. We saw a range of people on the day who had travelled in from around Oxfordshire looking for advice, from the longterm unemployed to those looking for a career change.”
