SCOPE: Concourse: 2,363 SF 2nd Floor: 9,558 SF 3rd Floor: 10,826 SF 6th Floor: 12,550 SF CLIENT: Meridian Group DESCRIPTION: This project consisted of an interior build out of 6 spec suites, a wellness center and a management office. It included demolition of the 6th floor, and minor demolition of the concourse level and floors 2 and 3. The concept of the spaces are inspired by Alexander Graham Bell’s lab and the complexity of his inventions. Bold architectural features and rich textures help to shape each floor and incorporate the concept. NASK PROJECT TYPE: Workplace, SCIF LOCATION: 4114 Legato Road, Fairfax, VA SCOPE: 7,956 SF CLIENT: NASK Inc. DESCRIPTION: This project was a new interior office space fit out. In order to maintain high security for the client’s needs, the entire suite was built as a Sensitive Compartment Information Facility or SCIF. Cost effective design was essential in order to meet security requirements and stay within budget. Although this project was very technical, a loose concept was set in place to help guide material choices. Each design element was inspired by space, as well as technology. INVOLVEMENT: Ordered materials, Rendered elevations and 3D views, Assisted with Construction Documents, Submittals, RFIs, ASKs SOFTWARE USED: Revit, Procore, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign

STUDENT WORK Virginia Tech

THE CANOPY Thesis Project Sustainable Boutique Hotel Placed within Melbourne, Australia, Canopy Hotel, embodies sustainability through design. Inspired by the Yarra Valley, the hotel encompasses the beauty of the vineyards, acting as a retreat for travelers. Australia is known as the world’s fourth largest wine producer, making wine an important part of their economy and culture. The concept stems from the tedious process of growing wine, in which the plant must be trained before it can produce fruit. Within the first few years of growing wine, the plants must be watered, pruned, and cared for in order to develop a strong root system. Once it has a strong base it is able to handle the weight of the grapes, producing an abundant canopy of leaves and fruit. The Canopy Hotel not only acts as a retreat for travelers, but also acts as a place of education. Through carrying out sustainable practices, and informing its guests, through design, about living more green, Canopy Hotel hopes to inspire people during their stay. Much like how a grapevine must be trained to grow properly, people must also be trained and informed in order to live a more sustainable life.
SITE & PARTI The Canopy Hotel is located within Southbank, which is considered to be a cultural hub full of cafes, restaurants and live entertainment. It is situated on the opposite bank of the Yarra River, making it a short distance from outer surrounding attractions. Hotel guests will be able to enjoy waterfront views of the Yarra River, as well as trails that weave through the Royal Garden. They will also be walking distance from many attractions, allowing them to effortlessly make a sustainable choice for transportation. Not far from the hotel is the Yarra Valley, where lush vineyards fill the land. The parti draws inspiration from the vineyards, specifically the growth of a grapevine. A grapevine must be trained in order to grow properly, and is typically guided by a pole. Much like in the building the spiral stairs, and main feature are guided by a column, wrapping around it.

HAVN Bienenstock Design Competition Day Spa for Multiple Sclerosis patients Over a thousand fjords scatter the landscape of Norway, creating serene, coastal cities further inland. Fjords are formed through the slow process of glaciation, in which glaciers carve through the landscape creating high cliffs and deep valleys. Although, they are still part of the ocean, they are calm and protected, acting as a haven. Inspired by the creation of fjords, Havn Spa, reflects the characteristics, forms, and tranquility that come from this natural phenomenon. Fjords are known to be Norway’s natural harbors, acting as a place of refuge and safety. The name of the spa comes from the Norwegian word ‘havn’ which directly translates to ‘harbor’ in English. This is meant to imply that the spa is a haven for people suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. Reflected within the floor plan is a central pathway, with spaces shaped around it. This idea comes from the central waterway of a fjord, and the mountains that curve around it. Materiality throughout the space consists of gray concrete cladding to resemble the mountains, and birch wood which grows in abundance within Norway. Fjords take time, patience, and force in order for something beautiful and peaceful to be created. Similarly, people who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis come from a journey of struggling and pain, and will hopefully leave Havn Spa feeling transformed and at peace.
SITE & PARTI The spa is placed within a fjord city called Andalsnes. The building is oriented on the edge of the city in order to have clear views of the water, as well as the mountains. Through studying the forms of fjords, from an aerial view it is clear they have a main path, with small water inlets branching off. The parti diagram is an abstraction of this idea, with a central pathway and shorter paths coming off of it.

RECEPTION The feature wall in the reception area brings in the lush green and texture of the surrounding mountains. The logo brands the entry area, and draws one’s eyes to the built in retail display. The desk has varying heights, and also symbolizes the process of glaciation, in which a glacier carves into a land mass.
