ALZHEIMER’S CARE HOUSE Care of the elderly has been an issue all over the world and a big topic in recent years, especially centered around those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. This has sparked an interest in, and need for, better designed care centers based around the comfort of the patient, not the general functionality of the building. After my grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s, I developed a strong interest in designing an Alzheimer’s care center. My Alzheimer’s Care House looks at the mental state and characteristics of Alzheimer’s patients and how best to solve the problems that may arise from these in an indoor and outdoor space. Through research and design application, I believe this building could improve the wellbeing of any person with alzheimer’s, general visitor, or staff member.

The project site is located in a prime location along both a main highway, I-35, and adjacent to the Trinity River. A view of downtown Dallas is available directly North of the site. With the location being a great chance to connect downtown and the surrounding community through the Mavs, I decided to captalize on this. Two large forms connect individually through direction of break off to either downtown or the community. They curl and encompass the exhibition court making it the connector of the two forms. Main views are all directed towards downtown over the levee. The Mavs are one of the main faces of Dallas. This practice facility and headquartersfor the Mavs will bridge the gap between downtown and the surrounding community through the common connection of the Mavs.

TREELINE RESORT 0’ 750’ 1500’ 3000’ Long Acrs Rach is a 750 scre agri-life extension owned by Texas A&M. The proposal is to create a nature park for the surrounding community and tourists. Within the park, there will be many attractions including this proposed ecolodge. The inspiration is drawn from the natural beauty of the landscape within the park. With the surrounding land becoming developed and soon to be suburb to Houston, this resort will become a much needed nature escape celebrating the nature inside and out. To do this, a focused approach on the view from within by maximizing viewing angles to the surrounding site was taken. Many tall glass walls and carefully placed buildings allow the visitor to get the full experience of the site while inviting them out for exploration and escape from the busy life of the city. The seemless connection between interior and exterior gives the sense of full nature immersion while under the shelter of the resort

TEXAS ARCHITECTURE CENTER The opportunity to design a Texas Architecture Center near Houston create a unique possibility to display architecture to the surrounding communities. As such, the focus was to creat an environment that encourages gatherings and interactions. The site is located on the Buffalo Bayou and harbors a large oak in the center of the site. The Architecture center would be a multipurpose facility for visiting architects, local firms, and those interested in learning more about architecture. In the design, related functions are localized into different buildings which link into one grand entrance. The entrance is constructed of mostly glass allowing an unobstructed view to the large oak tree and inviting visitors in.
