Aesthete- Community House Spring 2017 | Assisted Living Studio

Project Description: To create an assisted living campus in Panama Pacifico, Panama, consisting of a community house and four separate households. This campus is specifically designed for the baby boomer population as they enter retirement. These spaces encourage socialization between the residents and their guests. What I learned: Throughout this project, I learned more about codes and regulatory compliance within a space, to ensure the safety, clean-ability, and practicality. It was also a challenge to create flexibility of a space and find solutions, like lighter furniture, multiple storage closets, and multiple layout options, that utilized each space to its highest potential.

Concept: The spatial design includes an inviting, open concept plan that encourages the social interaction between senior residents. There will be elements such as a vertical garden inside, that will create an important connection between the interior and exterior while carrying this design aesthetic to every area of the facility for a cohesive look and feel. The design will include many opportunities that allow for residents to engage with the outdoor environment with large windows, combined garden and patio space, as well as a covered therapy pool. These features will promote a healthy style of living for both mind and body of the residents.

Programs Used: RevIT, Photoshop & InDesign

Studies: Throughout this project, I looked more into how natural light affects a space. With the living room and bedrooms on the southwest side of the home, I wanted to make sure that the lighting was not too harsh during the day. Studying a solar path chart really helped me understand the movement of the sun and how it affects the overall look of the space and textiles used.

Historic Preservation

Level 2 Floorplan 1/16” = 1’0”

Warrior hotel

Fall 2017 | Historic Preservation Studio Project Description: To research and brainstorm solutions to rehabilitate the Warrior Hotel in Sioux City, Iowa. Also, to provide modern amenities to the second floor wedding suites to meet guest’s expectations while staying true to the original Art Deco and Indian styles through architecture, textiles, and color palette. What I learned: Throughout my research, I was introduced to the four main options of historic preservation: preservation, rehabilitation, restoration, and reconstruction. I also conducted research of design styles and modern interpretations of these styles, to maintain the grandeur and originality of the space.

Bridal Suite Living Room Warrior Hotel | Sioux City, Iowa Fall 2017

Historical Preservation Concept: The Bridal Suite is designed to emphasis light, reflectance, and the Art Deco style. The windows on all three sides of the Warrior Hotel allow for a great amount of natural light to reflect off of the pristine white walls throughout the space. Recreating the Art Deco style through symmetry of the fireplace and wall detailing, help create a sense of luxury and tie the space back to its original inspiration.

Ceaseless

Fall 2016 | Retail Studio Project in Collaboration with Sydney Goff

Project Description: To become more familiar with retail design in a real-world context while working alongside with Iowa State University’s Apparel, Merchandising, and Design (AMD) students to create a flagship store in a global perspective. What I learned: Working alongside AMD student, Caroline Bailey, I was able to understand the challenge of working with a real client. I had the opportunity to give my input for her design requests which resulted in a flagship store in Rome, Italy. The design for her athletic brand, Ceaseless, included a yoga studio as a surprise feature. It challenged me to understand building codes, shopping habits and expectations abroad. Programs Used: RevIT, Photoshop & InDesign
