TAYLOR GOETZINGER LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO 2010-2014
RESUME EDUCATION Jan 2011-May 2016 Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Iowa State University- Ames, Iowa Double Major in Environmental Studies Minor in Horticulture
ABOUT ME I am currently a 4th year landscape architect student at Iowa State University. I plan to graduate in May of 2O16 with Bachelor degrees of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Studies and a minor in Horticulture. I am interested in many aspects of landscape architecture; anything from small scale ecological design to large scale urban design. I enjoy learning and applying new aspects of design to explore innovative landscape possibilities in my work. I find it really rewarding After graduation I hope to join a firm where I can continue to build upon my education. While it has set the stage for my future in practice, I know my learning has just begun. I want to find a place that will help me learn, grow, and achieve my goals as a landscape architect.

PROPOSED PLANOSBORN DRIVE
IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY, IOWA After studying the drainage patterns around campus I found that North of Parks Library there was a large area with no stormwater inlets. This caused many issues and resulted in large volumes of standing water. By implementing bioretention basins in both drainage areas then this would help take care of the pooling issue. These systems would also help to filtrate the water before it re-entered the water system.

After Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans the city was left with a lot of damaged property. Many of these properties were abandoned an left to sit unoccupied. By revitalizing these vacant lots and by implementing a park system into these open spaces it could help to improve the quality of life within these broken communities. This park corridor would help to bring people together and would help create a healthier living environment, not only for the people of new orleans but for the wildlife living in the urban setting.

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA The New Orleans East Park System would incorporate five different types of parks into a 6 mile stretch. These parks would be linked with a trail system that provides a safe and easy way to travel from one park to the next. The section below shows the distribution of the park types along with the proximity of each park to each other.

TRAIL SYSTEM
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA By providing different types of parks this helps create a more diverse system allowing there to be a place for everyone. Community parks provide large spaces for community gatherings. Playgrounds provide children with a safe area to play. Recreational parks provide teams or neighborhood kids the space to play their favorite sports. Dog parks give residence an open space for their dogs to run and mingle with other neighborhood dogs. Bosques and woodlands provide people with a canopy covered feel that contrasts to the dense urban fabric.

RESTORING RELATIONSHIPS
Interstates and highways create boundaries in many cities, this is also true for Eagle, CO. There is a serious disconnect in the town and that doesn’t just affect people, wildlife is also cut off from other potential habitats. By creating a connecting corridor and integrating humans and wildlife together Eagle can once agian become a connected city.

EAGLE, COLORADO By adding activities in this area for people within the town this will create the combination of humans and wildlife. Also providing wildlife with different methods of wildlife crossings so that they can safely make it across the heavily used highways is an important factor in this design. Vegetation is used to create the wildlife corridors and is placed in different ways to accomidate the diverse fauna in the Colorado region.

This project was about creating three different objectives within the design: assembly, movement, and dwelling. We did this by working with the existing vegetation and topography to create new and different perspectives of the site. By, also, incorporating a new trail through the site we wanted to give people a better feel of the place, and allow them the opportunity to experience the prairie and wetlands instead of just bypassing them.

MAJOR AND SECONDARY AXIS
WEYERHAEUSER HEADQUARTERS, WASHINGTON Designed by Peter Walker of Sasaki, Walker and Associates the Weyerhaeuser Headquarters is an interesting designed landscape. This is an assessment of the design in order to better understand the designers intents. By hand drafting the plan I was able to get a sense of the place and the different spaces the designers were trying to create through the architecture and vegetation.

EXPLORATORY SKETCHES
This page is for providing some of the work I do on my own time. I don’t always get the time to sit down and draw or paint but I really enjoy it. Most of these pieces were done while traveling and are a way for me to remember a place better than if I were to have just taken a picture.
