Christian Lacroix By: Taylor Hightower
Historical Background
Lacroix was born on May 16, 1951 in Arles, France. He originally wanted to become a museum curator, but by the 80's he became a fashion designer and was credited for saving couture. He graduated from the University of Montpellier with a degree in art history and after he moved to Paris to enroll in Sorbonne to prepare a MA dissertation on 17th century costumes. His background in historical costumes and clothing, Lacroix created a original design that was called Le pouf, which is a short puffball skirt. He impressed the media with his wildly photogenic designs.
