Mission Statement The basic purpose of the Erie County Agricultural Society, sponsor of the Erie County Fair, is to preserve and enhance, by educational endeavors, the agricultural and historical legacy of New York State. The Society sponsors the Erie County Fair, which is held annually and intended to promote and showcase our community's agricultural traditions, talents, diversity and heritage.

1821 Split Erie and Niagara County. Erie’s division known as The Agricultural Society
1822 Fair cancelled due to poor economy and the difficulty of transporting livestock
1841 First Erie County Fair
1868 Moved to Hamburg location
1924 The James E. Strates Shows Midway first appeared

1919 Joined a carnival athletic show as a wrestler taking on all challengers
1923 Acquired Southern Tier Shows
1932 Changed the show name to: James E. Strates Shows
1959 Continued to build and manage the carnival until his death
Bryan Wittman was named an Honorary Chairman of the 175th Fair. Wittman is the current Vice President of Global Special Events for Disney Parks and Resorts. Before he worked for the Main Mouse himself, Wittman got his start right here at the Erie County Fair as a stage manager at the outdoor theater in 1975.
