Come with us on a journey back to the post-revolutionary war era when land grants surrounding what is now Taylors, South Carolina, began to be a central point of connection. A summer resort built in the 1840’s brought many people of all backgrounds to the community, making our area a vacation destination. About twenty-five years later in 1864, our original church, Chick Springs Church, was founded by a group of families during the height of the Civil War. Later, when the Southern Railway came through the area in 1873, the economic center of our community shifted from Chick Springs to Taylor’s Station. In 1885, the church moved to follow the economic development of the area and became what we know today as Taylors First Baptist Church. Take a few moments to peruse the timeline on our website and note how Taylors FBC has been the single constant presence in this ever-evolving historical community and remains a major source of connecting people to our surrounding neighbors and to the world.
PASTOR'S PAGE It
was not long ago that we opened a new year and a new sermon series from the book of Nehemiah. What a journey it's been through this great book already, but I couldn't have expected how meaningful the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting season would be. We started in Nehemiah 1, where the great leader-in-themaking was broken over the devastated condition of God's city and God's people. In response he prayed and fasted four months. It was then God sent him on a remarkable mission that not only resulted in reconstructed walls, but a restored people as well.

For me personally, our prayer season was a special time when God seemed to press in on areas of my life that needed to be shaped to the image of Jesus. God patiently uncovered things to be changed ‌ things that continued to remain unmoved as long as I didn't seek Him purposefully and intently. The work in me still goes on. As your pastor it was a joy to see how God worked in individual lives, listening and watching as you encountered Him through your prayers and fasting. It was a thrill to see God move among us during our corporate prayer gatherings at the start and end of the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting. In missions we are still amazed at what God did. He not only provided the dollars for our members to go on mission trips at a reduced rate, He called our people, filling almost every slot available on the 2014 trip list. To this day I am reading and hearing from some of you as to what God began and continues to do through your 40 Day walk with Him. So here's the challenge: Let's not allow the prayer season we've been through to be only a pleasant memory of the past. Let's turn the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting into a culture of prayer and fasting at Taylors. The same attention given to God and the same dependence upon Him that we experienced throughout these last few weeks should be a characteristic of our regular walk with Him as individuals and a church family. The same spirit of listening and looking for God that we encountered together should mark our everyday lives. What's stopping us? A return to the regular and casual routine. That is why Nehemiah has been such a wonderful energizer for this year in which we'll celebrate 150 years of existence as a church. May we find ourselves brokenhearted and inspired to complete the mission God has given us through Christ. It's a great commission that will result in restored people here and redeemed people outside our walls. It's a mission where we'll experience the power of God as a group, in our families, and in our individual lives. It's a mission only realized when Taylors becomes a culture saturated by prayer and fasting. I'm glad to be building this culture with you.

Reach our Nation
Have you ever wanted to go to another country without leaving your own? Over Spring Break seventeen people from Taylors College ministry traveled to San Francisco to partner with NAMB missionaries. The students were exposed to many cultures and views on religion. “Being intentional” was the theme of the week. While our original task was to survey the four Chinatown communities in search of an unreached People Group, the students learned to be intentional in every aspect of life...where they live, who they sit with on the bus, and as they survey the neighborhoods. We visited local mosques to see the large, increasing Muslim population. From those at Buddhist altars to people with post-modern beliefs, everyone we encountered did not know or believe in Jesus. Please pray with us for the city of San Francisco and also the "H" People Group who have less than 2% evangelical presence worldwide. — Ryan Brooks, Minister of College and Young Adults TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 3
Five Jesus Truths of Engaging in by Doug Mize, Minister of Discipleship and Evangelism
Jesus is obviously our model and example for a variety of things. As Scripture says “He does all things well.” (Mark 7:37) It should be no surprise that Jesus is also our supreme example when it comes to evangelism. Here is a short list of some truths we can learn from Jesus in reaching others with the Gospel.
TRUTH ONE
TRUTH TWO
TRUTH THREE
Evangelism is about SOWING RELATIONSHIPS.
Evangelism is an URGENT ETERNAL MATTER.
Evangelism is about INTENTIONALITY.
Jesus modeled reaching people through building relationships. He was not afraid to associate with people with various problems or stereotypes. He aligned Himself with those who were known as the worst sinners. He enjoyed His time getting to know people on an authentic and personal level.
Jesus taught that the soul is eternal and hell is real. Jesus spoke more about hell than He did heaven. Hence for those who know Christ now, nothing can be more important than reaching others for Christ before it is too late. Jesus showed us the seriousness of the matter in this story…
Reaching the lost does not usually occur without being proactive. We see Jesus making a difference in people’s lives while at the point of physical exhaustion. The apostles were so intentional that most gave up their lives as martyrs for the sake of Christ. They learned this from their Master.
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:9-13
The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire. Luke 16:22-24
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else— to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” Mark 1:35-38
• Pray we will never be so callous that we do not dread the fate of those who die without Christ. • Pray we will be urgent in the way we work for the salvation of others knowing what is truly at stake. • Pray we will never be fooled by the Devil into a false sense of security for those who die without Christ.
• Pray we will not wait for just “an opportunity” but will be diligent to be creative and active in the way we strive to reach others for Christ. • Pray we will work to relate to as many people as possible so that we may impact them for the Gospel. • Pray we will “run” our lives in such a way that we might “win the prize” for the sake of our God. (1 Corinthians 9:23-25)
• Pray we will make friends and build relationships with people who do not know Christ. • Pray our attitude among the lost will be gracious and merciful affecting how we treat those around us as ambassadors for Christ. • Pray we will take time to invest in people through various ways including servant evangelism that models the Lord Himself. 4 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG
TRUTH FOUR
Evangelism is a COMMAND. When it comes to sharing the Gospel of Christ, evangelism is not an option. Jesus spent three years with His disciples but He did not take it for granted that they would now do evangelism as a simple by-product of walking with Him. He saved His final words for giving the command of making disciples. They would be “witnesses” to others, baptize them and then teach them to reproduce. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:19-29 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 • Pray we will be obedient to what Jesus has commanded us to do in the area of evangelism. • Pray we will rely on the power of the Holy Spirit as we share the Good News. • Pray we will remember that Christians will be held accountable unto God for how we have shared the message of Christ.
Evangelism
You're Invited PART ONE:
Monday, May 12 | 6-8 pm | The Apex Join us for a free, casual dinner in a relaxed setting with a group of people who, like you, want to learn more about Taylors.
TRUTH FIVE
Evangelism is about REAPING. There are people waiting to respond to the Gospel. They may need love, they may need some questions answered, or some just need the opportunity. Jesus said… “Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.” John 4:35-38 • Pray we will by faith accept that there is a great harvest around us just waiting to be cultivated. • Pray we will be more than willing to reap unashamedly where others have worked to sow. • Pray we will be bold and loving as we seek to bring others to Christ just as the old song says, “We will go rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.”

EASTER WORSHIP CELEBRATION
The Passion and the Resurrection Sunday, April 13, 7 pm, Worship Center
Through the years the Easter season has been a unique opportunity for the Music Ministry to lead the Taylors FBC congregation in worship. In this 150th Anniversary year we look back on some of the music that has been part of our history, featuring selections from Handel's Messiah and other anthems of Jesus' Passion and resurrection. As part of this service, we will also honor some of the "heroes" who have helped shape our Worship Ministry over the years.
Easter Sunday Sunday, April 20, 9 & 10:30 am
We will celebrate the Resurrection in all three of our morning services. Invite someone!

Good Friday Service
Friday, April 18, 12 pm, Fellowship Hall
Painting by Johann Vanderbijl
Focused on the Stations of the Cross, this service will feature ten local artists who have created ten original pieces for this event. Each work depicts a specific moment from the Passion Week leading up to Easter Sunday. These local artists have been coordinated by Doug Young from Doug Young Studios near the Taylors Mill. The art will be viewed before and after the service in a gallery set up in the Welcome Center area. Scripture, music, and the art pieces will walk us through the events of Good Friday, leading us to remember Jesus’ sacrifice as we take the Lord’s Supper. A time of fellowship following the service will feature coffee from Due South Roasters, also located in the Taylors Mill.

BOB SCOTT How Music Helped Me Become a Home Missionary After serving two years of active duty, part of it spent in South Korea, Ann Morrow Taylor and I were married July 23, 1954, and returned to the University of South Carolina to complete my last two years of Pharmacy school. We returned to Taylors in June of 1956 and set up our home. On the first Sunday of July we moved our letters to Taylors FBC and I joined the twelve to fifteen choir members of Taylors and began the mission of serving my Lord and Savior in the Music and Worship Ministry. I have enjoyed every minute of my fifty-eight years of service. I am proud to say I have enjoyed seeing the growth of our choirs and quality of music to suit the needs of our membership. I hope to continue in this ministry until the Lord calls me home to be with Him and my family and sing in the Big Choir in Heaven. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 7

Taylors First Baptist A History ofChurch Missions
We believe the people of Taylors have always been mission minded. They have been more than willing to step forward with their
money, their time and their talents to help with missions. Faithful men and women have led WMU, RA’s and GA’s in supporting missions around the world throughout the history of Taylors First Baptist Church. Missions emphasis, however, seemed to change after a trip to Grenada in approximately 1977. Dr. Ernest Carswell, the pastor at the time, had been working on his doctorate degree. Organizing and implementing the trip was part of his doctorate. An awareness of the need to be involved in missions seemed to stir as the congregation became involved in praying and supporting those who had volunteered to go to Grenada. This awareness carried over after the team returned. In 1979, "Mobile Medical Missions" was formed through the inspiration of Dr. Burton Davis. Once a year a team of doctors, nurses, and dentists flew to Brazil to minister to the needs of the people. Many received medical care and the gospel of Jesus Christ as the teams ministered to the people of Brazil. In 1986, Taylors student ministry became involved with missions in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee through the efforts of Lisa Hammett who had written an article on the poverty of that area. Taylors made a commitment to the people of Appalachia to send student teams for six years each summer during school vacation. At the end of that commitment, Taylors students and adults continued to minister to the people of Clinton, Tennessee for four years and one year in Jefferson City. Led by Lance Taylor, Student Minister, the students spent the next two summers in Acuna, Mexico, ministering in the name of Jesus Christ. And his successor, Kelly Cowan, continued to lead Taylors FBC students in the Andes Mountains of Peru, Bulgaria, and Venezuela through World Changers. Taylors has been an integral part of the lives of missionaries on furlough by providing much needed furnished homes for those missionaries. Our church began with the home adjacent to our recreation fields on Taylors Road, added 113 Edwards Street, and James Street as they became available. These homes have been renovated and maintained in part by the people of Taylors, utilizing the efforts of volunteers. Students in Appalachia | 1989
Additionally our church has been involved with the lives of children at Marietta Baptist Camp by providing a cabin for campers. Many volunteers
have worked diligently behind the scenes over the years to help in the Taylors community to provide meals and help for those in need. Sunday School classes, now called Life Groups, have contributed their time and money to people in need in ways that cannot be fathomed.
The year 1995 may have been the first year that three separate teams journeyed to Brazil. In 2001, Dr. Frank Page led the first combined medical, evangelism and construction team of fifty persons to Brazil. Dr. Page again changed the Dr. Frank Page in Mexico | 2006 face of missions. Because of his heart for and support of missions, there were eight mission teams that served on foreign soil that year. Dr. Page also placed an emphasis on local missions, by encouraging the Single Mom’s Oil Change. He emphasized local, national and international missions… Jerusalem, Judea and all of Samaria, as he would say. Taylors helped in the formation of a Korean church and a Hispanic church by allowing them to use our chapel for services. Pastor Paul Jimenez has continued to support missions as Taylors moves into the future.* Jeremy Thompson, Minister of Missions, has become an integral part of the future of missions at Taylors FBC as we continue to send mission teams all over the United States and other countries. From our perspective, there has been much joy sharing Taylors FBC's journey of becoming a strong mission minded church! From being “send” team members, Paul Jimenez in Brazil | 2013 by praying for and financially supporting the first church sponsored international mission trip to Grenada in 1977, to being “go” team members of nine international mission projects, five national, and numerous local mission projects, God has grown us by giving us hearts desiring to serve Him by going and doing, rather than just financially supporting Taylors FBC’s mission ministry and praying for those who do go, a very important aspect to the teams. God has used two very ordinary, unworthy people by strategically placing faithful servants of His in our paths who have motivated us by their examples to be sensitive to and obedient to wherever God leads in serving Him. As God has developed His gift of service in us, serving Him by serving others, whether at home or away, has become a lifestyle for us. It is where we know God wants us and where He is using us - our desire is to honor Him! *See how God is leading Taylors to REACH more than ever on page three. Visit taylorsfbc.org/reach
