And going a little farther He fell on His face and prayed, saying,
M “ y Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. Matthew 26:39 Today, the olive trees at The Garden of Gethsemane are nourished from the same roots that fed the trees as Jesus prayed before His Father. Read more about Gethsemane on page four.
PASTOR'S PAGE Dear Taylors Family, 40 DAYS. It’s the number of days Jesus spent in the wilderness praying and fasting and getting ready for the cross ahead. Then heaven sent its angels to minister to Him so that He could begin His public ministry, a work that would change the course of your life and mine, and change the course of history. 40 DAYS. It’s the number of days the disciples were able to spend with Jesus after His resurrection and before He left earth to be with the Father. It’s the short time that the disciples spent getting ready to begin Jesus’ global-reaching assignment. Then ten days later, after prayer and waiting, the Holy Spirit came and a movement launched that continues to this day.
Dedication of Historical Marker for Taylors FBC Sunday, April 12, 12 pm Outside of Church Office Please join us as we celebrate the 151st year of Taylors First Baptist Church by dedicating a new historical marker which commemorates Taylors FBC and its origins dating back to the years of the American Civil War. The church organized as Chick Springs Church on August 28, 1864 and twenty years later, the congregation voted to move their church to a new location near the newly constructed train depot. The original building was deconstructed and rebuilt at the new location in 1885, and the church was renamed Taylors Church.
40 DAYS. It’s the number of days I asked our church body to pray. Hopefully, it was a time during which God was very near to you as He was with His Son and the disciples during their unique 40 Day sessions. Perhaps He provided needed direction for the future, uncovered sin deep in your heart, opened your eyes to the lost condition of people you love, or encouraged you with overwhelming hope in the middle of difficult days. But remember, just as the 40 Days was a special time of concentrated listening to God, shouldn’t we operate like that all the time? The 40 Days were also a time of getting ready for what lies ahead. For Jesus it was entering public ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:14) and taking the first steps toward the cross. For the disciples, it was being empowered by the Holy Spirit to make disciples and take the gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). What does the road ahead look like for you? As we celebrate the empty tomb and the glorious hope the gospel brings to our lives and futures, know that the next days and weeks are a path that was paved well before we set out to take the first step of our journey. I pray that what was accomplished in the past 40 Days is just the beginning, and that in that same Holy Spirit power, it leads to stronger faith, continued change in our character, deeper unity in our marriages, families and church, a growing awareness of lost people around us, and a burning desire to know, worship and obey Jesus like never before. It’s been a wonderful time of listening and changing, and of getting ready. I join with the chorus of those disciples who recognized what it meant when they realized the power of the empty tomb: take heart and take hope, for He is alive and He walks with us on the amazing journey ahead. Have a blessed Easter.

Beyond 40 Days of Prayer: FASTING Mondays 6:30-8 pm, Through April 27, Led by Dee Hopkins What is fasting? Why should I fast? What happens when you fast? Does fasting really make any difference?
LORD HEAR OUR CRY Thursday, May 7 Service in the Chapel at 12:00 pm Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day. 1 Kings 8:28
Using the Word of God as our source, we will find the answers to these and other questions. The people of God have a tremendous opportunity to make a significant impact for His kingdom through the practice of fasting. God is calling His people to deeper levels of faith and maturity, and this is one area in which we desperately need to gain understanding. Please consider taking this opportunity to learn about this spiritual discipline, what it accomplishes, and the tremendous benefits promised to those who practice it rightly.

Invited to Gethsemane
E
arly last year, the Israel tour group with whom I was traveling, stepped off our bus and made our way down the steep embankment of the Mount of Olives. Then, as the walls of Jerusalem came into full view, we arrived at a grove of trees called Gethsemane, the place where Jesus prayed in agony before His arrest by a band of soldiers that would eventually lead Him to the cross. Olive trees are remarkable; they can live for thousands of years, their roots surviving beyond even that and sending more shoots. Today, some of these olive trees, and definitely their roots, are the same ones which shaded Christ from the moonlight as He lay prostrate on the ground before His Father. I can attest Gethsemane still is a beautiful place, albeit with darker undertones... so much happened here 2000 years ago. We are still invited to remember Gethsemane. Imagine you were there with the Savior 2000 years ago. See the gnarly, thick trunks of the aged trees as they add grimness to an already disturbing evening. See also the moon. The Passover moon is vibrantly full and illuminates the trees enough that you can make out a figure on the ground. There He is, our Savior, in unconstrained agony. He looks bloody as the strain of His suffering causes blood vessels near His skin to break and mix with His sweat, finally releasing the drops of His precious blood. He speaks, but this is not normal speech. These words are like groans from His Soul. The name Gethsemane means “olive press.” Are you seeing the “pressing” here? The Creator of the Universe, the Perfect Soul of both God and humanity is pressed…pressed like an olive until the sweet fluid is released to revive the many. Jesus is full of the dread of what He now must do. God’s glorious creation, mankind, is in trouble. We are guilty of sin and sin must be paid for. Jesus, by going to the cross, can bear the burden of our sin. As He calls out to His Father, He gives both His plea and also His humble consent. My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will (Matthew 26:39). He said, “Yes.” While all heaven and earth and the fate of mankind hangs in the balance, the Glorious Son of God accepts the Cross. After Gethsemane His face is resolute. Strengthened by the angels under these olive trees, He is ready to meet His accusers, He accepts the kiss of Judas and He heals the ear of the soldier cut off by Peter. Swords are not needed. He now has said “yes.” He stands before the frightened Pilate, who tries to throw around his jurisdiction. Our Savior is unimpressed and ready for His fate; for we are Jesus’ bailiwick and He must assert His redemption for us and redeem us as His own possession. Today you can rejoice at Gethsemane. This is the place the decision was made. In his book, When Angels Were Silent, Max Lucado states: “The battle is won. You may have thought it was won on Golgotha. It wasn't. You may have thought the sign of victory is the empty tomb. It isn't. The final battle was won in Gethsemane. And the sign of conquest is Jesus at peace in the Olive trees. For it was in the Garden that He made His decision He would rather go to hell for you than go to heaven without you.” Jesus would not turn from the cross. He would take hold of the dreaded cup that is His because of our sin and would drink it, and drink it to the last dreg. We, His people, are victorious because of the battle Jesus won at Gethsemane. BODOLOSKY James and Jennifer Bodolosky recently shared with our ministerial staff that the Lord was directing their family to a new area of ministry within Alaska. We were encouraged to hear how God is directing their steps, and are excited to see what God will do through this faithful family as they join the GraceWorks team. I am also excited that in this new role, we will have opportunities to serve side by side with them for the sake of the Gospel among native Alaskans. You can read a little of their story as they make this transition. If you have been financially supporting the Bodolosky family, then you will also want to contact them shortly to learn more about how they will be receiving funds in the future. family has been called by God to Ourserve as missionaries in Alaska with GraceWorks — an evangelical ministry based out of Anchorage. GraceWorks partners with over a hundred churches from across the United States to bring the Hope of Jesus Christ to lost people in towns and villages all over Alaska. Our journey as Alaska missionaries began over four years ago with a calling to serve with Missionary Aviation Repair Center in Soldotna, AK. This assignment has allowed us many opportunities to serve, share the love of Christ, and learn about our people group – native Alaskans. We love MARC and will always cherish the relationships God allowed us to have there. God has prepared us, however, for a new journey of service, and we are excited to take that first step again. Many from our Taylors FBC family have walked this entire journey with us. You have prayed for, encouraged, and supported us. We would not have made it this far without your consistent love and encouragement – Thank You! Our new assignment with GraceWorks is incredibly exciting for our family for two reasons. First, GraceWorks is a ministry where our entire family can serve. During the summer, Jennifer and I will serve as area leaders for teams that come from
around the United States to evangelize and partner with local churches in park ministry. Ashleigh will be digging in and helping with bookkeeping and accounting while she majors in Math at UAA (University of Alaska Anchorage). James, Jr., Sarah, and Jacob will be using the skills they learned through Child Evangelism Fellowship to minister and teach young people. Even the younger members of our family – Joshua, Grace, Hannah, Caleb, David, Rebecca – have a role to play. They, along with the rest of us, demonstrate the impact the love of Christ has on a family, to young kids who may have never known what family can look like. The second reason this ministry is exciting for us is we have been challenged to expand the GraceWorks village ministry. After the busy summer ministry slows down, we will look to use the resources of GraceWorks to reach out to villages to minister to young people and teach them about Jesus. Our service at MARC and at camp during the last four years has given us the experience we need to accomplish this new challenge! We look forward to this next part of our journey. Taylors has served with GraceWorks and will serve again this summer. We look forward to working with you and serving the King of Kings.
It is with great joy that I write to you on behalf of Christ Fellowship Salt Lake. We are thankful for you! Your graciousness, encouragement and generosity towards us are a testimony to the power of the Gospel and the kindness of God. When I think of you, my mind goes to the apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippian Church when he wrote, I have received everything in full and have abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God (4:18). To us, you guys are our Philippian church. Much like the church of Philippi sent Epaphroditus to minister to Paul’s needs (2:25), you send short-term REACH teams to come alongside of us in our weakness. And although you bless us in a myriad of ways, I would like to take this moment to thank you particularly for making short-term teams a priority. Last summer we were aided by two REACH teams from Taylors. Their assistance was crucial and strategic as we had recently sent out a new House Church to begin to engage West Valley City, the second largest and most diverse city in Utah, with the Gospel. The House Church was commissioned with around ten adults, so you can imagine how thankful they were to have extra hands to plow new ground and sow the seeds of the Gospel in a city that has well over 130,000 residents. These two well-equipped teams helped us with community block parties, door-
to-door evangelism, free lunches in the park for folks in need, etc. In fact, just over the summer months we had over 150 opportunities to share the Gospel, distributed over 400 Gospel packets and connected with a wide variety of people groups including Burmese, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Iraqi, Hispanic, Tongan, Iranian, and Navajo just to name a few. We could not have done this without the help of our partners. To God be the glory! This June we are excited to have another group from Taylors! Please be in prayer for the team as they prepare to join us in the work of ministry for that week. Pray for the unbelievers who will hear the Gospel, many for the very first time. Please ask God to open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak for the mystery of Christ…that we may make it clear in the way we ought to speak (Colossians 4:3-4). We are anxious to watch the Spirit of God continue to work in the days ahead.
It is a joy to participate in the Gospel with you! The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

God Was at Work Through Our Small Groups A weekend filled with opportunities to... Reflect on who God is as our Redeemer, Restorer, Hope, and Strength; Engage with God through Worship, study of His Word, and small groups of women;
We asked each woman in a REST group to answer the question: “Which of the REST attributes (reflect, engage, surrender or trust), is more difficult for you?” One lady shared that she had lost a son to suicide and was still reeling from its devastation. Trust was especially difficult for her. The lady sitting next to her shared that God had ordained that the two of them sit next to each other. Why? Because she had lost her mom to suicide almost two years ago and trust was still a major issue for her as well. A third lady in the group shared that she had lost two family members to suicide. God created a sweet bond of caring among those women. Only He could have arranged for those three ladies to be in the same small group...three women from three different churches united and bonded by a loving God.
