Dear Church Family, When I headed home from my REACH trip overseas, I took a two-hour bus ride to the airport in Venice where I caught a flight to Munich in order to connect with our flight across the Atlantic to Charlotte. Then it's only one hundred miles down I-85 to Greenville. I had an itinerary with every connection point in front of me to direct me home. It was a pathway, if you will, to arrive where I wanted to go. In the days ahead, I look forward to sharing with you the pathway our ministry team has laid out to arrive at our destination of making disciples. I know making a fullydevoted follower of Jesus isn't exactly like making all of your connections, and you're done. We will never fully "arrive" at becoming like Jesus until we see Him face-to-face. It is a growing process that takes time and flows as we move through different seasons. There are, however, significant steps forward we take along the way that will move us closer to fulfilling our task. For example, Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights from August through November will provide opportunities for you to be equipped for making disciples in a different way than in the past. We will be focusing on two of our values that are major destination points along the way of fulfilling our mission. Wednesday nights will connect with Sunday morning messages, will be innovative and interactive, and will involve members of our ministry team. From August 17 to September 28, we will highlight “Multiplying Disciple Makers.” In the Fellowship Hall as a church body, we will walk through the essential principles and practices of making disciples as individuals, families, and people living among so many lost neighbors, co-workers, and friends. We'll hear more about the future of discipleship groups and how they will strengthen our Life Group culture and the overall growth of our church. Then, from October 5 to November 16, we will uncover how “Everybody Serves” the body of Christ, an essential part for Taylors to fulfill its mission of making mature disciples of its members. We'll give you an opportunity to explore your gifts and find your place at Taylors. Some will begin serving who have never served before. Some will change their roles and others will deepen their love for where God has them currently serving. So, I'm already looking forward to you hearing more about the pathway ahead and walking with you and with our team throughout the fall. It's an opportunity for us to take significant steps in the pursuit of making disciples as we encounter Him, equip believers and engage the world. I can't wait to begin.

Paul Jimenez, Pastor

Taylors Women Fall Bible Studies September 21-March 29 Wednesdays, 9-11 am in The Loft Cost: $20 | Childcare Provided

Raising children who know Jesus and are equipped to lead lives transformed by His power has become more challenging in today’s culture. Mom to Mom is designed around the Titus 2:4 concept of older women teaching and encouraging younger women in their relationships with their husbands and children. During our time together, you will receive biblical guidance on parenting, join in small group discussion, and enjoy the interaction of more experienced mothers with younger moms. This year we will study “Growing Together,” and we pray as you explore God’s Word, you will be nurtured as a woman, wife, and mom, gain confidence in your parenting skills, and strive to build firm spiritual foundations for your family.

September 21-November 9 and January 11-March 29 Wednesdays, 9-11 am | Cost: $20 Childcare Provided

Do you long to connect with the love of Christ but often struggle to experience His presence and hear His voice? Join us this fall as we go deeper in our study of God’s Word to encounter Him in a way that transforms our lives. We’ll explore truths of Scripture that lead to a better understanding of Who God is and why you can boldly place your hope in Him. Apply these truths to your life, teach them to your children, and share them with those who are broken and in need of His healing power.

By Priscilla Shirer September 19-November 7 Mondays, 7-9 pm | Cost: $15

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you’re tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you.

Gifts

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11, 6 PM PRESENTED BY TAYLORS CHILDREN'S CHOIRS

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17

The ancient custom of giving gifts, practiced commonly in all nations throughout history, finds its greatest expression today at Christmas time when the joy of the wise men (Matthew 2:10) and the joyful tidings of the angels (Luke 2:10) echo in millions of family circles around the world. And even where Christ Himself is not known, people share the joy of giving. But giving began with God! We often take for granted the gifts of creation, our families, worship, His Word, and even sometimes, our Savior. This fall Taylors Children’s Choirs will focus on these wondrous gifts from God through songs and sharing various artistic disciplines: acrylic painting, digital photography, drama,* contemporary dance, paper puppetry, graphic design, boomwhackers, sign language & ukulele. Register for children’s choir classes by Friday, September 2, at http://taylorsfbc.org/worship/ music-taylors/ or pick up a form at the Elementary Welcome Desk. *Drama and solo auditions are Wednesdays, August 24 & 31, 5-6:15 pm in Room F70. Children wishing to participate in the Drama Class must audition. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 5

Alaska REACH Trip “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20 This is especially true for Alaska. The landscape is a testament to its Creator, but many people walk in darkness, without hope or knowledge of Him. Our mission: to partner with Child Evangelism Fellowship and the Bodolosky family to bring the light of Christ to the families of Eagle River. Through games, Bible stories, sack lunches and one-on-one conversations, our intent was to engage the people of the community and point them to Jesus. For several of us, it was a continuation of the work that was started last year, while for others it was a brand new experience. And while our team was a mix of talents and life experiences, we came together with one goal in mind: to change lives with the Good News of the gospel. We witnessed that life change in an eight year-old girl, and pray the seeds were planted for many others to experience the same. - Chelle Evette For the first time our ministry was in two parks and with two parks came two ministries: one to children, as always, and one to the teenagers and adults lost in drugs and alcohol. Kids will listen to Bible stories, addicts, not so much. Yet our team dynamics worked well for this dual ministry as each person brought a different gift or talent to meet the variety of needs. The week was a week of blessings. - Anne Darby Keating I was very excited to see all of the Rains family again this year. They were one of the greatest blessings for me both last year and this year. Having just relocated from North Carolina with the Army, Kyler, Kimberly and Lucius (13), Addison (11) and Kiyah (7) had only been in Alaska for a week when I met them. Lucius was so sad about moving away from family and friends in North Carolina and moving to Alaska that he began to give away his shoes. He thought that it snowed all year and he would not have anything to do, but that has not been the case. The Rains family got involved right away. It was a joy to know they were going to be plugged in. Also, I knew they would be an encouragement to the Bodolosky family. Seeing this family was like seeing neighbors and good friends. I feel like they are part of the Taylors family. - Debbie Uldrick 2016 Alaska REACH Team: David Evette, Sheri Auwater, James Beard, Chelle Evette, Anne Darby Keating, Shannon Keating, Randy Mayfield, Brittany Pirkle, Brittney Sparrow, Debbie Uldrick

Employment Coaching Ministry Update Led by Paul Barber

The Taylors employment coaching ministry began in 2009 during the great recession. In September 2014, as the economy improved, we transitioned from a group-based training ministry to 1:1 coaching in order to better meet individual needs. Altogether during the past seven years, we have touched about 1200 people in the Greenville area and we know of 458 who have found new jobs. The majority are from outside of our church. Since we began 1:1 coaching in the fall of 2014: • A total of 122 people have inquired. • Coaches have met with thirty-two After initial contact, about half decided people to help them with career not to pursue coaching. We helped transition and twenty-two have landed some with resume feedback. jobs. Praise and Prayer Requests: • Praise the Lord for a team of twelve faithful volunteer coaches. We welcomed Donna Gottschall and Mary Wray Conner to the team last winter.

• Due to health reasons Ron Phelps has stepped down from daily leadership of ECM. Please uphold Ron in your prayers.

• Currently we are working with six active participants and others are pending.

• Please pray the Lord will send someone to help Paul Barber with initial contact and needs assessment.

Contact us at hopenet@taylorsfbc.org to get involved.

Although I have never heard Michael present the material in When Helping Hurts, I have absolutely no doubt that he understands it thoroughly, that he knows how to apply it, and that he will add his own unique twists that will improve upon it.
