August/September 2018
From Taylors FBC Senior Staff, Deacon Leadership Team, and Ministerial Staff As you know, our church launched a new worship initiative on April 1 of this year, bringing all generations together under one worship style, in two Sunday morning services. In light of our Senior Pastor’s resignation, the Senior Staff, Ministerial Staff, and Deacon Leadership quickly entered into a period of discussion and prayer as to the path forward regarding our Sunday services. In an effort to show humility, love and care to the body at Taylors and to promote a climate of peace during the interim, we have agreed to make a change in our Sunday format. Beginning on Sunday, August 19, which is also Promotion Sunday for all Preschool/Children/Students, we will return to a Traditional Worship at 9 am, and will continue the Taylors Worship (as started on April 1) at 10:30 am, blending Contemporary and Modern worship elements. Life Groups that have moved to worship at the 9 am service will be moving back to the 10:30 am service. David Massie, our outgoing Deacon Chairman, has made Ephesians 4:2-3 the focal passage for the past year. It encourages us to be…“completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” This decision comes from a desire within our staff to do those very things. This change is being made for the interim period, with the understanding that once a new Senior Pastor is called we will follow his leadership and vision as to the path forward. Continue to pray for our church – for confession of sin, for unity, and for a renewed commitment to the mission God has given us to make disciples. Pray for our staff and church leadership, and for our worship teams and Life Group leaders. Pray for the search for an Interim Pastor. Pray for the filling of key staff positions. Pray most of all that God will be glorified through the way we love one another and move forward together.

Additional Security Implemented August 19 We will implement additional security measures to ensure the continued safety of our church family, guests, and staff. During Sunday Morning, all doors on the back of campus will be locked at 9:15 am every week and will not reopen. Signs will be posted on all affected doorways. Those who park in the back or side lots will need to walk to the Main Street side of campus to enter the church after that time. The Welcome Center as well as five other front campus doors will remain open all morning. For Sunday Evening Service, the Chapel doors will be open and the Main Entrance at the Welcome Center will be open until 6:30 pm. All other doors on campus will be locked. During Wednesday Nights, all doors on campus, except for those located in the Welcome Center, will be locked at 6:45 pm. The Main Entrance at the Welcome Center will remain open until 30 minutes after the final event begins. We appreciate your cooperation as we make these changes in the coming weeks! Our Security Ministry is devoted to maintaining a safe environment for our people to gather and worship. If you are interested in serving with our Security Ministry, please contact Andrew Dobson, 864-616-5399, or Daryl Hopkins, 864-678-8820.
New Life Group Begins September 9 | 9 am | Fellowship Hall Bring your Smartphone, Tablet, or Bible and join us for a brand-new Life Group designed especially for Singles and Married Couples ages 27-39. We are excited to present an in-depth teaching of God’s Word lead by North Selvey, along with a tremendous leadership team of Dan Southern, Chris & Lauren Justus, and Amy Selvey. This class will present a strong focus on developing a deep relationship with the Lord and a grounded knowledge of the Scriptures.
Dear Taylors First Baptist Church Family, I, along with Cheri, Emma Grace and Harrison, thank you deeply for the way you have demonstrated your love to us over the past weeks, since my resignation on July 1. You have reached out with your care and generosity in ways that have gone far beyond what we could have ever imagined. Please know that your prayers are already at work, and we ask you to continue to pray so that the Lord will lead us in the days ahead, as He has faithfully done already. We could not be more grateful to the Lord and to you for the many ways you have ministered to us. As we go, we are praying for you and asking the Father to pour out His grace on this wonderful church. And we pray with great confidence knowing that the One who “began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Much love and grace to you all. The Jimenez Family
Thank you Paul & Cheri for serving Taylors FBC
Continue to pray for the Jimenez family as they seek God's will for their life and future ministry. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 3
Love Taylors is what we do at Taylors FBC for our community – we serve our neighbors, build on-going relationships, and share the love of Jesus. Refuge Sports Some of the most vulnerable people on earth are the more than 68 million that have been displaced from their homes due to persecution, war, and ethnic-related violence. More than 25 million of these have been legally classified as “refugees” by the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) and are eligible to be permanently resettled in another country. The USA willingly receives varying numbers of these people, and they have been placed in many areas of our country – including Greenville. Refuge Sports focuses on providing sports and recreation activities for the refugee children and youth, ESL (English as a Second Language) training for adults and children, and academic and reading help for students. This organization demonstrates the love of Christ while helping these peoples become contributing members of our communities. Volunteers are always needed. To learn more about refugees and how you can volunteer with Refuge Sports, please contact Mike or Julie Lee, 864-270-9923 or refugesportsJSLee@gmail.com. www.refugesports.org Refuge Sports celebrated a significant “first” last week and are extremely proud of one of their Chin ladies. Lal Mawi has been in the US the required 5 years, resettled by Lutheran Services. She has been attending their citizenship class that is part of the ESL program, and successfully passed her citizenship exam. Late this past week, she was sworn in as a US citizen. We are very proud and happy for her and her family. (Minor children born overseas will now automatically become US citizens, also.)
Good News Club Taylors FBC began sponsoring the Good News Club at Taylors Elementary in 2005 and at Woodland Elementary in 2007. Since these clubs began, 306 children have received Jesus as their Savior! In addition to sharing the gospel with children and encouraging them to grow in their faith, the Good News Club volunteers have also had opportunities to minister to the faculties and families of these schools. Some of these opportunities are: providing breakfasts/lunches for the faculties and staff, providing food and clothing items for families in need, and praying for specific prayer requests/needs of the faculties, families and children in these schools. Volunteer with the Good News Clubs at Woodland Elementary School and Taylors Elementary School September – April | 2-4 pm | Mondays at Woodland or Tuesdays at Taylors To learn more about volunteer opportunities, contact Linda Fultz about Woodland Elementary at 864-419-7150 and Amy Taylor about Taylors Elementary at 864-360-0435.

Family to Family Mental Illness – Will You Help? Mental Illness is not a “casserole disease…” How often have I heard that quote from a believer whose loved one suffers from a mental health disorder? We are quick to deliver meals and minister in practical ways when someone has cancer or surgery, but Christians often avoid reaching out to a family when a mental health crisis erupts – partly because we are not sure what to say or do. Please help change the stigma on mental illness by seeking to understand the pain and to love families through the crisis.
Mission 1:27 Giving Closet
The items below are needed for Foster Children... •
Toothbrush and toothpaste sets for toddlers and adults
•
Boys and girls new underwear, all sizes
•
Boys’ and girls’ new socks, all sizes
•
Size 2T to size 6 boys and girls summer clothes
Research shows that approximately one quarter of persons seeking care for a mental health issue turn to a member of the clergy before contacting a mental health service provider. More people with mental health issues turn to clergy than psychiatrists! According to the LifeWay Study of Acute Mental Illness and Christian Faith among adults surveyed with acute mental illness: • 69% want churches to help families find local resources for support and dealing with the illness. • 59% want churches to talk about it openly so the topic is not so taboo. • 57% want churches to improve people’s understanding of mental illness. • 55% want churches to provide training for members to better understand mental illness. • 53% want churches to increase awareness of how prevalent mental illness is today. PRAYER MINISTRY
Begins August 29 | 6:30- 7:30 pm | C119 Facilitated by Dee Hopkins This fall we are introducing a new type of Prayer Ministry - one in which people may come for prayer in person. Trained prayer servants will be available to listen to your requests and then pray for you personally. Everyone has needs in their lives, and sometimes a personal intercessor can minister to us like nothing else can. It is our hope that anyone who gives us the privilege to pray for them will know that they are loved by both Father God and those who pray for them. We pray that lives will be changed as the Holy Spirit pours out His love. This ministry is open to the community - non church members are welcome. Also available, will be a "Soaking Prayer Room." This will be a room in which you can come and receive prayer without having any interaction with anyone, if you so choose. In a room with worship music playing softly, you may sit quietly in God's Presence with your prayer requests written out beside you. A prayer servant will come, at some point, stand behind you, and pray silently for your requests. You may remain there as long as you like and be refreshed by the Lord's Presence. For anyone interested in serving on the Prayer Team, a class in Prayer Servant Training will be offered on Monday nights starting August 27 at 6:30 pm in C119. Please contact Dee Hopkins at deehop917@att.net if you are interested. You are also welcome to take the class even if you do not desire to serve on the Prayer Team.

Five years later we began fostering 11 and 13 year old brothers through a local group home. We truly don’t know how we would have made it through this journey of adoption and fostering without a village of people for support, prayers, and encouragement. We are excited to be part of a group of people who love and want to help vulnerable children. Help may include fostering, adopting, or just supporting the ministry God specifically calls the church to in James 1:27. Raising children is a lifelong commitment, no matter how God brought that family together. We will go through a book study called Reframing Foster Care by Jason Johnson, share foster/adoption journey stories, and have special speakers, among other things as part of the class. We would love to see you on August 29 for our first meeting together!"

A Testimony by Sarah Moore
Women's Ministry has played an important role in my life. Mom to Mom has allowed me to meet other moms in the same season of life as me. It has given me biblical tools to be a better mother, wife, and Christian. The Mentor Moms have walked alongside me as my family grew, offering encouragement and prayer to help me along each new journey. The women's bible studies are made up of multi-generational women who pour into the lives of one another while digging deeper into God's Word. They offer biblical wisdom, advice, and encouragement and are continually pointing me to Jesus. The women in both of these ministries have prayed and walked with my family during some of our most joyful and some of our most difficult times, truly interceding on our behalf. I wouldn't be the Christian, mom, wife, or woman I am today if it weren't for these strong women.

Alaska Our 2018 Alaska REACH Team consisted of 13 children, teens, and adults,
and we served one week with the Bodolosky family and Fireweed Ministry in the Eagle River and Anchorage, Alaska areas. It was amazing to be able to split our team this year and serve in two parks, Fairview Lions Park and Schroeder Park. Some on our team had been to Alaska before, while others came for the first time. It was a special joy to see our younger team members (ages 12-17) take on “adult” responsibilities, such as teaching the Bible and leading crafts and games. They really stepped out boldly for the Lord by speaking to people of all ages and backgrounds. Revelation 7 promises that there will be worshippers from every nation, tribe, people and language around the throne of the Lamb. We had a glimpse of this in Fairview Lions Park, a park we were able to serve in for the first time this year. Our team encountered people from a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds, including Sudanese, Pacific Islander, Muslim and Christian. Regardless of their background, all of the children we met were eager for friendships. Through sharing the Gospel, crafts, sack lunches (and game after game of “Mouse on Ground”), we had the pleasure of pointing these sweet children to the One Who wants to be their Savior and eternal friend. Schroeder Park in Eagle River had been known in past years for drug activity and was not considered a popular spot for families and children. The Bodoloskys have been bringing ministry teams there to serve each summer for several years, and the Parks and Rec Department has noted the significant drop in illegal activity there as well as a significant increase in families using the park. The other half of our team who worked in this park did crafts and bible stories each day with a regular group of kids, teens, and adults. One Christian mom, who runs a day care in her home, brought her children each day for the Bible time and activities and has become a partner with the Fireweed Ministry. One grandmother, who had very limited education, brought her four grandchildren daily and participated in Bible lessons, learning right along with them. Another group of three sisters had been coming to the park every day each summer for four years now and shared that this summer park ministry is their only opportunity to hear about Jesus. Keep the Fireweed Ministry and the Bodolosky Family in your prayers as they continue to serve in these two parks for the remainder of the summer, building relationships that will point the park-goers to Christ. Pray for the remaining mission teams who will go to serve each week. — Shannon Keating and Chelle Evette, Alaska REACH Team 2018

We went to plant a seed, and it is bearing fruit. We went to Athens with open hearts and hands ready to do the tasks God set out for us. Our main task was to physically transform a feeding center into a training center. Some of us were tasked with hanging sheetrock, scraping paint off old walls to make them look new with a fresh coat of paint, sanitizing toys for the children to use, and sweeping up the never ending dust we created during our construction. These were just a few things we accomplished during our time in Greece. Today, this training center is being used as a facility where new and aspiring believers can meet together to learn more about our God. The amazing thing is that these believers are primarily Muslim refugees that have surrendered their lives to Christ. During our trip, we also visited a refugee camp a few hours outside the city. We had no idea if our visit with the refugees there would make an impact – but I believe with all my heart that it did. These are people that have left everything they own in search of a safe, new beginning. I believe these individuals, just like many others, will not only find a new beginning physically, but spiritually as well! You could sense by the Holy Spirit that they were searching for the Truth. The Gospel among these people is spreading like wildfire, and lives are being changed for eternity!
