February 2018
Now is the time for us to come together in worship. On April 1 we will move from three services to two, and from three styles to one unified worship experience that reflects our DNA as a church and our desire to grow together towards unity in Christ.

Dear Church Family, We're off to an amazing start in our walk through the Word together in 2018 and I am taking every opportunity to tell people how encouraged and hopeful I am about what God is going to do this year. We're seeing individuals, families, Life Groups, and Discipleship Groups band together to encounter God through the F260 Reading Plan and then on Sundays we're gathering to hear God together from those same Scriptures in worship. As the Spirit of God speaks to us through the Word, here's my two-fold prayer for Taylors in the days ahead: that together, we would be spiritually energized for the worship changes ahead and any other changes God calls us to make (Life Group hours, serving, etc.) as a result. And second, that we would be spiritually awakened to reach lost people who are not worshiping Jesus, whether across Main Street in Taylors, across the cul-de-sac, across the hallway at work, across cultural lines in Greenville or across the globe. What I'm praying for, and am asking you to pray for during these days, is that the Word of God is simply not a reading plan we follow, but a transforming agent that bears fruit in every one of us‌the fruit of repentance, submission, faith, obedience, courage, sacrifice and passion for the glory of God here and beyond. This is what the Word and Spirit of God can produce as we continue to walk this road in 2018, together. Love and grace for you all. Pastor Paul Jimenez

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6 We believe God is leading our Body to come together in worship and the Word. We will spend this “Year in God’s Word,” reading Scripture with the F260 Plan and walking together through the Bible on Sundays. When we come together in worship (ENCOUNTER) and the Word (EQUIP), our witness (ENGAGE) will have a greater impact in our local community, nation and with our REACH partners around the world. We acknowledge that Taylors has experienced a lot of change in terms of its membership in recent years and recognize the decline in attendance. This recognition led the pastor and ministers to a broad assessment of the past, present and future regarding fulfilling our mission. It prompted them to pray, discuss and explore what God would have our church do in response to our collective desire to see Him work and move amongst our congregation moving forward. We believe moving from three services to two will strengthen our worship experience and help us gain momentum to grow together. A healthy church interacts across age barriers and puts personal relationships above stylistic preferences. A healthy church is together. Our desire is that the entire church have the same worship experience on Sunday morning – singing the same songs, reading the same passages of Scripture, being led by the same leaders and across ages and musical styles, together as Taylors FBC. The two identical services will continue to be driven
by the Word of God and will reflect the wide variety of worship-leading groups at Taylors. All of our teams will have the opportunity to lead the entire church in worship. Each week will look a little different depending on which group(s) is leading, but will continue to be presented with authenticity, excellence, and theological depth. Though we are different ages and have different preferences, we renew our commitment to encountering God together. All of our current Life Groups will remain intact, however in order for each service to have young, middle-aged, and seniors, some Life Groups will be asked to move to a different hour so that Sunday mornings truly reflect who we are as a church. The regular Sunday evening service will begin meeting in the Chapel beginning April 8. This more intimate space will encourage good congregational singing and fellowship. We will continue to meet six to eight times during the year in the Worship Center for Nights of Worship, Children’s Musicals, etc.
“The joy we experience in congregational singing is always first and foremost a delight in God, but it is also a gladness in seeing other believers built up in their faith.” – Matt Merker “Sacrifice Your Preferences on Sundays” www.desiringgod.org/articles/sacrifice-your-preferences-on-sundays TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 3
In 2013 Taylors leadership felt called to “adopt” an unreached & unengaged people group in the Middle East. By adoption, Taylors committed to think often of the people and those attempting to meet them, send short-term groups as needed, and encourage members to consider longer-term stays. After much consideration and direction, Taylors was led to a people group who we call NEMO. At the same time, God was preparing a young couple for a long-term commitment to the NEMO people, and we formed a partnership. During 2013 and 2014, we sent teams to explore the area and determine which peoples lived in which villages. As our partners moved to the area where the NEMO live, they realized there is more than one unreached, unengaged people group. There are actually seven, all of whom are 100% Muslim. They have been categorized into five tribal groups and two non-tribal groups. Taylors has decided to join the local partners and broaden the scope to seeing all five tribal groups engaged with the good news. In the fall of 2015, Taylors sent their first mid-term worker to the target city. She and her roommate were able to strategically engage many women during their eighteen months there. Even after engaging these groups with the good news for the past five years, there are still no known followers; we know, however, that the Father is faithful, and we trust His timing to be perfect. In December, our partners came to Taylors and shared about what they are expecting the Father to do in NEMO in 2018. They are excited about returning after spending a well deserved four months in the States. Their goals include moving into an area of the target city that has never been engaged, connecting with friends from previous years, building their tour company, and following the Father’s lead to those whom He has prepared to hear the good news. Another family will be moving to the area at the end of the summer and will be focused on the two non-tribal peoples. This September, our team will work alongside the NEMO partners to help sow seed. Our men will have the opportunity to sit at coffee shops and engage men in conversation while the ladies will go on house visits to sit with local friends and go to local parks and markets where they may be able to meet new women. Our hope is that the Father will introduce us to those who are seeking. Please continue to remember NEMO in your thoughts anticipating that day when we will worship the Father together and praise Him for His faithfulness!

Everybody SERVES We value equipping and mobilizing every person to use their spiritual gifts for the building up of the body of Christ. 1 Peter 4:10
We are looking for dedicated Life Group teachers and leaders. Please read the training process to the right and if you sense God calling you to be trained, please contact Beth Caskey at bethc@taylorsfbc.org.
Training to Become a Life Group Leader The Pipeline, our leadership training process, exists to train, affirm, and employ men and women to lead in a Life Group setting. Each participant is paired with an existing Life Group leader and is mentored for three to six months. During this time participants have the opportunity to study resources, meet with their mentor, observe multiple settings, take part in an existing Life Group, and have opportunities to teach alongside their mentor. At the end of the mentorship, the mentee is then affirmed in multiple areas before being deployed into a leadership role. Through this process, our hope is that men and women will feel encouraged, equipped, and ready to build up the body of Christ. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 7

Prayer Servant Training will guide you in ways to pour His love into people, to bless and encourage others in who they are in Christ, to be set free from burdens, and to walk in truth and victory. From beginning to end the Bible is filled with incredible stories of heroes whose faith in God allowed them to be used by Him to save the day. Kids will learn that they can put their faith in God, because He is worthy of our trust.
Highlights in our Library Parenting in the Pew by Robbie Castleman
Because we are created to praise God both now and forever, we must take our children’s worship seriously. Worship, Robbie writes, is “the most important thing you can ever train your child to do.” With infectious passion, nitty-gritty advice, and a touch of humor, she shows us how we can help our children (from toddlers to teenagers) enter into worship.

The romance of old England, an epic struggle of good against evil, and above all, an unshakable faith in the sovereignty and goodness of God, all undergird this riveting novel.

Welcome New Staff Members
Jerry Long
Jill Peeples
Minister of Pastoral Care Jerry Long was born and raised in Greenville. He is a 1969 graduate of Greenville High School and a 1973 graduate of Clemson University. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, in December 1977. He and his wife, Lynne have been married forty-three years. They have two married daughters and three grandchildren. Prior to retiring from full time ministry in December 2015, Jerry served on the ministry staff of FBC Monroe, Louisana and Shandon Baptist in Columbia, and also as Senior Pastor of FBC Landrum.
Taylors Rec Ministry Assistant Jill is a native of Greenville. She and her husband Brian have two children, Hannah (22) and Graham (19). Jill has a background in Human Resources and nonprofit organizations. She is a member at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church where she has been since childhood. For the last year God has been calling her to a work in ministry where she can serve others and allow God’s light to be a witness through her. She has experienced firsthand in her life that without God’s grace and love, we would not be able to love others in the way we are commanded in His word. She looks forward to serving the members and staff of the Taylors Rec Ministry and Taylors FBC.

These steps are designed to educate people on the importance of being a faithful and serving member of the body.
