ENCOUNTER GOD. EQUIP BELIEVERS. ENGAGE THE WORLD. Expectant WORSHIP Multiplying DISCIPLE-MAKERS Reaching the UNREACHED Everybody SERVES Innovative FAITH Generous GIVING Life TRANSFORMATION
Dear Friends: We're so easily distracted in the spring. You look out the window and instead of finishing your office work or house chores, you'd rather be enjoying the beautiful weather outside. As we continue our sermon series in the gospel of Luke on Sunday mornings, we see Jesus beginning to sharpen His focus on the cross. He could be easily distracted by the people who crowd Him, the religious leaders who oppose Him or the twelve disciples who follow and watch Him. But instead, He keeps His focus on the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of others. This spring we have wonderful opportunities at Taylors for you to focus as Jesus did on giving for the sake of others. Don't be easily swept away by the distractions that will keep you from fulfilling God's mission through you. Let's keep our eyes on Jesus as He leads the way and watch Him transform lives.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20

THE WORLD
Kathy | South Carolina Baptist Convention Disaster Relief Just one story from the Greenville Baptist Association’s Disaster Relief Unit, SC MT 004, working out of the First Baptist Church of Haughton Louisiana over Mother's Day week in May 2016:
After making numerous phone calls to the homeowners with active mud-out requests, we received a response from Kathy. Upon arriving at her home in Sibley, LA and meeting her, we began a three-day mud-out job of her home that has been occupied by family since the 1940s. As Kathy revealed her story, she told us the spring flooding reached about eight feet on her farm; she lost all her chickens and rabbits, half her dogs and the horses barely kept their heads above water while being seriously traumatized. Kathy had four mobile homes on the farm that she rented out, but has lost that income and all her livelihood since they cannot be recovered. In addition, she has no family nearby since her mother and sister had lived in a double-wide (which is also a total loss) and they moved away to Shreveport.

Kathy is a resilient person who was trying to recover but she seemed at the end of her rope when we arrived, nevertheless, as we worked, she worked. Her countenance began to change by the end of the second day of tear-out to the degree that she was laughing and sharing with all team members and clearly now had a feeling of hope.
Our work was completed on Wednesday and we invited her to join us for supper and prayer meeting that evening at our host church, Haughton First Baptist. When she came, the people of the church were warm and welcoming. As a pastor on our team pointed out in his evening devotion on Thursday, it was a blessing to see how God had arranged and scheduled things in such a way that we had developed such a trusting relationship with Kathy that she was happy to accept our invitation and become connected with a local church family. Jim Whitworth served as Unit Leader for this trip. 2016 was a very busy year for Disaster Responses which includes SC rebuild, which is still on-going, from the November 2015 floods in SC Midlands and Hurricane Matthew last fall. Visit www.scbaptist.org/dr for more stories and information. Jim is a volunteer who serves Southern Baptist Disaster Relief as follows: Unit Leader, Greenville Baptist Association; Disaster Relief Coordinator, Greenville Baptist Association; State-Wide Task Force, SC Baptist Disaster Relief; Unit Leader Trainer, SC Baptist Disaster Relief. Jim is also married to Tina Whitworth, who retired from Taylors FBC last month.
