The town of Centerville is preparing their 50th Annual Christmas Extravaganza, but this year it’s going to be bigger and better than ever – a real over-the-top display. The excitement is off the chart as the writer and director and legend-inhis-own-mind, Cecil V. DeVille, calls for pyrotechnics, sky-diving angels, dancing camels, and more. It’s obvious that this year’s production will be the greatest ever! But when catastrophe and calamity send those grand plans up in smoke, their epic production becomes an epic fail. Visions of grandeur are replaced with the beauty and power of the simple truth of Jesus’ birth: The Son of God, born to humble parents, lying in a simple manger, came to redeem. Now that’s epic!

A Time of Remembrance
Memorial Service
December 22 | 2 pm | Fellowship Hall
Family and friends of those who have passed away during 2019 are invited to this special Memorial Service. For a number of years in a morning worship service, we recognized church members who have passed away during the year. This year we are planning a more focused time of ministry to these families and friends, offering hope and encouragement for those among us who are grieving. We will include a list of those being remembered in the Sunday morning bulletin on December 22 with the service following at 2 pm. Although the special service will be geared towards the families and friends, everyone is welcome to attend. Join us for a time of scripture, songs, and words of comfort and hope as we remember and give thanks for those we have lost this year. At the conclusion of the 2 pm service, there will be a fellowship time with our ministerial staff. If you would like to include a picture of your loved one for this special service, please email it to reneem@taylorsfbc.org by December 6.

A SPECIAL EVENING WITH SWEET CHILDREN The Miracle Hill Children’s Home “Back to School Bash” had a “slippery” beginning as Miracle Hill boys and Taylors FBC kids of all ages enjoyed a slip-n-slide. More fun, food, and surprises would follow. During lunch, each Miracle Hill child was paired with a family, couple, or an individual in an effort to establish lasting relationships. The children were excited to receive gift cards to WalMart, Shoe Carnival, and Old Navy, and backpacks with school supplies. Each child was given a card on which to write their own prayer request.
CREATING COMMUNITY : TAYLORS TOWNSQUARE In 2012, Taylors FBC held the first “Taylors TownSquare” meeting out of a passion to form relationships in our Taylors community and make it a better place to live. Taylors TownSquare, led by Alex Reynolds, eventually became a separate non-profit entity with Taylors FBC hosting monthly meetings and continuing to work alongside the TownSquare board and participants. We have seen God do immeasurably more than we imagined when we originally formed TownSquare, including opening doors to become a catalyst for significant future development of our community. As we at Taylors FBC continue to “Love Taylors,” please pray for God’s hand to be on our community. Pray He will bless this community, grow us in deeper relationships with one another, use Taylors FBC to meet needs of our neighbors, and give us many opportunities to share the love of Christ. To learn more about how TownSquare has evolved since 2012, read this article: bit.ly/TaylorsTownSquare. Continue to pray and look for ways you can be involved!
The Holy Spirit’s presence was palpable on that memorable evening. As stated by one church member, “The hands and feet of Jesus — Misson 1:27 serves others so well. Eleven boys blessed us tonight at Miracle Hill Children’s Home. So many people came together to provide food, a giant slip n slide, gift cards, and new backpacks so that these children could have a wonderful start to the school year!” The event was the result of generous contributions, planning, and organizational efforts by Mission 1:27, Miracle Hill staff, the LINK & Tyler/ Shaw Life Groups, church members, Boyd Real Estate Firm, and others. A beautiful picture of many people coming together to serve. TAYLORSFBC.ORG | 5

"The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward." An Accidental Life
by Pamela Ewen This book is fiction based on fact: inspired by the testimony of nurse Jill Stanek before a U.S. Congressional Committee, confirming that it was routine in the hospital where she worked for doctors to have nurses take infants born alive during abortion to a “soiled utility room” and leave them to die. The fate of abortion survivors is among the best-kept secrets in the world.
From Success to Significance
by Lloyd Reeb Success is great, but significance is lasting. Discover God’s unique purpose for your life. Your talents, your drives, and everything you are will make sense in a new way and have an impact you’ve never dreamed of. Significance is within your reach and it starts by finding the freedom to dream. 8 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG
Search for Purple Cows
by Susan Call Susan's life seemed perfect; they had a beautiful home, two wonderful children, and everything a family could desire. But Susan was tormented by her husband’s alcoholism, anger, and infidelity, which cast her into a world fraught with fear and despair. God found her in the midst of her pain, and showed her that a journey toward Him was possible even in the most unthinkable circumstances. This book will leave you believing that God is present and able, ready to shine a light on your path and show you the way.
The Persian Gamble
by Joel Rosenberg From the New York Times bestselling author of The Kremlin Conspiracy, comes this latest international thriller about a terrifying nuclear alliance among three world powers — Russia, Iran, and North Korea — and the man who must halt their deadly strategy. The Russians want Marcus Ryker, a former US Secret Service agent, for murder; the Americans want him for treason; the Iranians don’t even see him coming. Publishers Weekly says, “Rosenberg cranks up the suspense, delivering his most stunning high-stakes thriller yet.”
Love Has a Face by Michele Perry
Termites for dinner; bombs in the backyard; a nation torn by decades of war, still on the brink. Can one life really make a difference here? A young missionary working with Sudanese children sees transformation, one child at a time, changed by Jesus' love and power. You will be swept away by Michele's story of hope and the supernatural power of God in the midst of a broken and hurting world.

MEMBER HIGHLIGHT: SANDRA “SASSY” BROWN
Sandra “Sassy” Brown can hardly recall a time she wasn’t teaching from her favorite book, the Holy Bible. While attending Furman University, she began teaching Sunday School. In Europe, where she and her doctor-soldier husband Haskell spent three interesting years, she taught Sunday School in Frankfurt at Bethel Baptist Church. Back in Greenville in 1970, she began to teach a Bible study class at Juanita Butler City Recreation Center and has continued to do so for 45 years and counting. In 1978, coaxed by Dr. Ernest Carswell, Sandra and Haskell joined Taylors FBC. Almost immediately, Sandra began teaching and has now taught bible studies and classes at Taylors for 42 years. She has never slowed down. Many hundreds have been influenced by her love of her Savior. The Browns have two great-grandchildren – Ella (3) and Hayes (3 months). Sandra says they quickly became her favorite non-teaching fascinations.

Sandra received her nickname around 28 years ago when her great nephew struggled to pronounce “Sandra,” and instead called her, “Sass.” This is where the nickname, “Sassy,” originated, and many still know her as “Sassy” today. Her favorite hobby is “getting her hands in the dirt,” growing things like tomatoes and pretty flowers with pleasant aromas. Sandra comments, “I think gardening reflects the two best qualities of nature – practicality (tomatoes) and beauty (flowers).” We had a brief Q and A session with “Sassy,” and here are some things we learned: Q. What is your favorite Bible verse? A. Isaiah 26:3 – “He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord.” Q. Who is your favorite Bible character? A. Elijah. He never questioned the colossal task assigned to him by God – he acted! Q. What is the gladdest thing that has happened to you? A. Absolutely no doubt about that one. It is Haskell, my husband and best friend! Q. What makes you happy? A. Teaching from God’s Word. I am so grateful that He gave me this blessing of sharing such a wonderful story with so many beautiful people. Q. What makes you sad? A. It grieves my heart that so many people who hear and read the Gospel don’t respond to His word and come to repentance. When asked when she will retire from teaching about Jesus, she smiled and responded, “When it’s time to meet Him face to face.”

TALES OF A GEORGIA PEACH
Cathy Schwartz has a noble aspiration. She is living her life so that she will be a woman after God’s own heart, just as her favorite Bible character, David, was a man after God’s own heart. If she hasn’t already fulfilled that aspiration, she is rapidly building up quality points - with a significant assist from husband and best friend, Jay. Cathy is the Energizer Bunny personified – at age 63, she operates on a schedule that would test the endurance of a much younger person. One of her great loves is her popular handbell ministry that has delighted a multitude of audiences since 1993. This ministry began while she and Jay were attending Edwards Road Baptist Church. When asked how important being a talented bell ringer is in her life, she smiles sweetly and replies, “That’s what God made me to be.”
The Gathering for College, 7:30 pm
He also enabled Cathy and Jay to be parents of daughter, Sally (35), and son, Greg (32). Sally, also a pianist, and husband David have four delightful children: Abigail (10), Madilyn (8), Naomi (5) and Gideon (4). Each summer, Cathy and Jay enjoy hosting “Granny Camp.” Great fun is had by all! Greg and wife Chelsey are expecting their firstborn.
FIND OUT
Cathy was born on Valentine’s Day in Washington, Georgia. Her father was a Southern Baptist minister and her mother a church organist. At age 14, Cathy became a church pianist. From Washington, the family moved to Gainesville, Georgia. In 1960, her father pastored in Gaffney, SC and next in Jonesville, SC. In 1970, they moved to Columbia, SC, where Cathy began playing piano full-time. She worked part-time at the Piggly Wiggly, where she met Jay, the boy who would one day become the love of her life and fellow world traveler.

Cathy became a Christian at age 9 and Jay at age 16. Their co-worker friendship blossomed into love and they married in 1977. Their first home was a small apartment in Jay’s parents’ backyard, “waaaay out in the country!” Both earned college degrees, Cathy in psychology and Jay in engineering. In 1982, they moved to Greenville. They joined Taylors FBC in 2002. Jay and her handbells are the two loves of Cathy’s life. After that, what? With another broad grin, Cathy replies, “My John Deere tractor! I love working in my yard. I also absolutely love traveling with Jay every chance I get!” She gets a great number of chances thanks to Jay’s frequent travels. Other things that delight Cathy are spending quality time with her family and working closely with the Taylors Legacy Choir. In her spare time, she volunteers at Greenville Memorial Hospital and The Peace Center. When asked if she would have done anything differently in her life, Cathy quickly replies, “Absolutely! If there was one thing I could do over again, I would NEVER have that first piece of chocolate!”
