Dear Church Family, You know good service when you receive it. Whether at the airport when you think you might miss your flight, or the drive-through when there’s a seemingly endless line of cars at lunchtime, or the cleaners when you find grease stains on your favorite shirt, we all know what it’s like to be satisfied. Well, in the Body of Christ, the inverse is true. The aim of the opportunities for service we have every week at Taylors is not to find contentment as satisfied customers, but to sacrifice for the spiritual growth of others so they look like Jesus. Read to this letter to the local church at Ephesus in the first century: And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ… Ephesians 4:11-13 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:15-16
For the remainder of the fall, we will take a journey together in understanding the principles Jesus has established for His church when it comes to serving. Our staff finds it so vital to the growth and health of the church that we’ve established it as one of our values: Everybody Serves. We will highlight this value in multiple ways. On Sunday mornings beginning October 2, I’ll begin a sermon series that highlights how every member can serve the body, the motivation behind it, as well as the model we find in Jesus for serving others. On Wednesday evenings, we will go deeper in our exploration of our gifts and roles and how the body benefits from Holy Spirit-filled service. Along the way we are going to help you discover or rediscover your spiritual gifts as well as match them with specific service opportunities at Taylors for 2017. Begin to ask the Holy Spirit to shape your mind and heart along this line of thinking for our church. Ask Him to free you from the “am I a satisfied customer” mindset. Recognize that the body of Christ at Taylors is only as strong as its members are sacrificial, willing to give themselves and all they have for all people to grow up like Jesus inside the walls so that we may go with this same gospel outside our walls. Much love and grace to you as you read these pages to serve the One who came not to be served and satisfied, but to give His life for many.

Operation Christmas Child Box Distribution, Sunday, October 30 Box Collection, Sunday, November 13 Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. For many of these children, the giftfilled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received.
Sunday, October 16 | 7 pm The heavens declare the glory of God; The skies above proclaim the work of his hands. These words penned by the Psalmist (19:1-2) invite praise to the God who is Creator and worthy of our worship. As a body of believers, worship is central to everything we do. Encountering God in worship is the first part of our mission at Taylors. This night of worship is an opportunity for God’s people to worship outdoors in the beauty of God’s creation, to sing, to share Scripture, and to adore the Lord together. Our primary goal is not to come and "get filled up,” but rather to pour out an offering of praise together to our God. Christmas at Taylors
gifts: A Kingsley Christmas Tradition Sunday, December 11, 6 pm Presented by Taylors Children’s Choirs Childcare for ages five and under
Join us as the Taylors Children’s Choirs share various artistic elements along with their music to tell the story of Gifts: A Kingsley Christmas Tradition. Hunter Kingsley’s family has decided not to go on their annual Christmas adventure but instead to serve at the local soup kitchen. Hunter is furious. How could they cancel their special family event? After meeting some of the people at the soup kitchen who are facing difficult times, Hunter begins to understand that Christmas really isn’t about getting presents but about the joy of giving our time and talents because Jesus gave us the best gift of all – Himself.
humbled. A Christmas Worship Experience
December 2, 7:30 pm December 4, 10:30 am Presented by Taylors Worship Childcare for ages five and under
There is no greater example of humility than God sending His only Son to earth. Jesus was born in obscurity and poverty. A perfect and holy God humbled Himself, leaving the glory of heaven, choosing to take on human flesh and entering into our sinful world. His act of humility would make a way for us. So how do we approach God in response? Join us as we humbly come before our humble Savior. It may change the way you look at Christmas.

SERVES
The Apostle Paul paints a beautiful picture of believers who are united, though different, who belong to one another, and who have different spiritual gifts which they use to build up the body of Christ. Imagine what it would look like if each of us knew our spiritual gifts and were passionately using them to serve. What an impact we could have right here in our Taylors Community and around the world! — Kathy Dority, Minister of Assimilation and Spiritual Care

Join us for an in-depth study to understand how God has designed you for ministry and placed you in our body at Taylors FBC. We’ll explore spiritual gifts, personalities, abilities, life experiences, and passions and help you discover how God has created and gifted you with a unique capacity to serve others.
The Power of One Among Many Led by Jerry Long in the Fellowship Hall
Already have a grasp of your spiritual gifts? Join us on Wednesday evenings as we will build on Pastor Paul’s sermon series Everybody Serves. You will examine your spiritual gifts and seek answers to such questions as: What is my role in the body at Taylors FBC? What are the gifts God is calling me to use at this stage of my life? How am I currently serving, and is this where I am most passionate and gifted?

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us…Romans 12:4-6a NIV

Now we'd like to show you a practical “how” that we as leaders of education ministries think will help answer this question. You already feel the tug of its importance.
