Dear Taylors Family, In June I had the privilege of listening to David Platt and Kevin Ezell, two men who hold key leadership positions in our denomination’s international and national mission agencies. As they both encouraged and challenged local church pastors and leaders, Platt issued a statement that I heard him repeat during the course of the Southern Baptist Convention: “We are praying for 46,000 Antiochs to be raised up in order to see the Great Commission fulfilled in America and the world.” What he was referring to is that in order for Jesus’ mission to be carried out, the 46,000 churches of the SBC and all kingdom churches must look to a model of this remarkable church in the book of Acts for a blueprint of a transformational church. Then, we must ask the Holy Spirit to shape us into such a people and place.

I knew what he meant, and it stuck. I was both inspired and convicted. Somehow that day, I remembered a book on my shelf that might help entitled The Case for Antioch. Like many of you, I have a lot of books on my shelf but haven’t gotten around to reading them! It was written by Dr. Jeff Iorg, President of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in San Francisco and written about this remarkable church, Antioch. As I walked out of that session with these thoughts in mind, I look up and right in front of me is Dr. Iorg. I stop him and tell him that after today, I am committed to spending time with his book and the church at Antioch in Scripture. That pledge led to a personal biblical study of the church at Antioch this summer. I found it to be a praying, worshipping, growing, sacrificial, training and sending church. Thus, through prayer, I feel God has called me to lead us through a church-wide study of this church. Beginning October 18, all of us will study the biblical characteristics that allowed God to use this church mightily for transformation in and through His people. We will focus on this theme through our preaching, Life Groups of every age, and special times of prayer. As we wrap up our sermon series on Jesus’ stories for daily Kingdom living, we’ll make the transition to the Holy Spirit’s model for Kingdom transformation. The Spirit has used local churches since Jesus left earth and He is looking to continue to use Taylors in the days ahead. I can’t wait to begin. Love and gratefulness for you,

The Power of Prayer in Christ's Church By Doug Mize, Education and Connections Pastor
There are three wonderful and authoritative verses of scripture I wish to share in regard to the church and all three invoke our Savior Jesus Christ. In Matthew 18:16 Jesus promises “He would build His church.” Then in Matthew 21:42 Jesus declared that “He was the Cornerstone.” Then according to Colossians 1:18 we see Jesus as the “Head of the Church.” So notice here Jesus is the ARCHITECT, FOUNDATION, and RULER of His church. As Architect we trust His strategies for progress. As The Foundation we trust His sustaining prowess. And as Ruler we trust His Wisdom and supreme authority. My friends, our Savior on the throne has already promised the sustaining, progressive success of the Church He purchased with His own precious blood. In this we stand! As we begin our 152nd year of ministry here at Taylors, we must cling to the essential truths of these promises. Please remember that Jesus spoke those verses in regard to the Church Universal…the church made up of every true believer from every tribe, tongue, and congregation around the world including past, present, and future. Yet these promises also hold foundational truths for local congregations including our community at Taylors First Baptist Church. Jesus Himself holds the answers and success of ministry here at Taylors and the best news is we have direct communication with Him through prayer. I want to entreat each one of you to engage our Savior and leader of the church in dedicated prayer like never before! I have been encouraged recently of a renewed grass roots awakening by many of you to pray. Life Groups are praying. Impromptu groups of dedicated friends are gathered in homes and praying. Jesus remains the answer for every need here at Taylors FBC and we must travail with Him in desparate prayer. As Oswald Chambers said, "Prayer does not equip us for greater works—prayer is the greater work." Months ago I began thinking of ways to gather people together for increased prayer. Out of that came an idea of gathering our church in multi-generational groups for prayer in homes and we will be doing just that on Sunday night, October 18. That day we begin a six-week study on the church called Building Antioch. Pastor Paul chose the book by Jeff Iorg entitled Building Antioch as a way for us all to learn from the lessons of the early church gathered in Antioch. Our Life Groups will also be studying this material during these six weeks. One thing we know for sure about the early church in Antioch — they prayed. I get really encouraged thinking that on October 18 hundreds of us will gather in homes and pray for one another, our church, our community, our nation and the world. We are asking people to sign up as a host home as we organize Life Groups and others not in a Life Group for this special night of prayer. The prayer cells will be organized multi-generationally, so thank you for attending a prayer cell where you may not know the host. We envision a multitude of Taylors people fervently praying simultaneously all over this community! Then our six weeks will conclude on Sunday night, November 22, as we reach out to area churches across denominational lines within a couple miles of Taylors to gather for a special night of prayer and worship. The purpose is to again come together in worship as the collective body of Christ to again pray for one another, our churches, our community, our nation and the world. We are hoping to include a massive choir who will lead us in worship for this special night of prayer and reading of Scripture.
Church, we must join in this wonderful opportunity to pray! Prayer in Homes, October 18, 6 pm

Just for Today A Take Heart Taylors Ministry
By Betty Groom
Three years ago a small group of ladies began REACHING into our community to minister to the residents of Just For Today Recovery Homes through R3 Ministries of Taylors FBC. When I was first approached about a leadership role, I responded that I could not fill that space. Over a number of weeks, the Lord started speaking to me through His Word and other believers. After three other ladies (Kathy Dority, Shirley Osborn & Fran Stoddard) joined me in prayer, God confirmed His call to me. Just for Today is operated by an amazing woman, Cassandra Brayboy, who has three homes in Taylors that minister to eighteen ladies as they journey to freedom from addictions. These are precious ladies who have reached a point of brokenness in their lives and are led by God to come to these recovery homes. Our ministry is to walk with them, love and encourage, as well as share God’s Word with them. We witness their openness to our love and God’s Word. We have a monthly breakfast with the ladies and leave their home blessed because of our time with them. To learn more about Just for Today visit www.wyff4.com/34476190. For more information or to serve contact Betty at bettyg@taylorsfbc.org.
Better. Together. Taylors TownSquare is dedicated to bringing the people of Taylors together so that true community can form - people developing relationships with one another and creating opportunities for those relationships to breed new ideas and move our community forward. Birthed out of a desire to REACH into our community and share the love of Christ, Taylors TownSquare began with a simple strategy: host monthly meetings to give the Taylors Community a place to gather together and form relationships. The organization which began as a community gardening initiative of R3 Ministries in 2012, was spun out of Taylors FBC as its own corporation in late 2014, has continued to grow, and is now bringing our community together in ways not seen in many years. TownSquare is currently working toward bringing a Taylors Farmers Market into existence and will be announcing more about those efforts soon. On-going efforts include partnering with Taylors Art Group and local organizations as well as advocating for trails, greenways, and other recreational elements in Taylors such as Chick Springs Park and The Park at Taylors Mill. For more information, see taylorstownsquare.com. Growing from its small origins, Taylors TownSquare will continue to work at making Taylors better, together! 8 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG

Grief Support for Spouses October 5-November 23 6:45-8:30 pm Grief Support for Spouses REACHES our community by providing encouragement and support through an eight week session. This course gives insight and tools for coping with loneliness, depression, and anger while guiding participants to a place of hope. Caring group leaders facilitate discussion and guide the healing process based on their own journey through grief.
love, sacrificial living, and the overflowing love of Christ as they REACH into our community to fulfill the biblical mandate to care for orphans through foster care and adoption.
Question: How serious is the need for foster parents? Answer: In South Carolina:
• Over 4,000 children are in foster care. • Children are sleeping on DSS office floors and in hotels across the state because there are not enough foster homes and over the last few months, the state has spent over $5,000 on hotel bills for children. • Children are being placed outside their county of origin, causing ties to be broken with birth families (including those who have positive influence on the child), and everything familiar changes for the child (new school, new neighborhood, new doctor, new dentist, new friends, new city, etc.)
To register contact Judy Brown at 244-6005 or jfbrown119@gmail.com.
In the Upstate: • Over 1,300 children are in foster care. • Only 500 foster homes.
Grief Support for Parents Grief Support for Parents REACHES our community by ministering to those who are dealing with one of the most intense forms of grief known – the loss of a child. God can use that grief to heal us, strengthen our faith, and cause us to grow in relationship with Him. No matter how deep our pain, God’s grace is deeper still. Grief Support for Parents has transitioned to a one-on-one ministry offered to provide comfort, tools, and ongoing support during the grieving process.
In Greenville County: • Approximately 300 children are in foster care. • Only 250 foster homes. • Greenville has the smallest ratio of homes to children in the Upstate.
Question: What can you do to help? Answer: • Become a licensed foster parent.
• Become a “wrap-around family” for a Mission 1:27 fostering or adopting parents. • Pray for our Mission 1:27 families and the children who need them. • Give to support families who desire to foster and/or adopt.

Over 900 invite cards, 50 boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts, 100 laundry bags, and much more were distributed. Many of our senior adults helped move in students at North Greenville University while our 20somethings Life Group helped lead out at the church fair and Furman BCM.
