Kick-Off: September 16

#lovetaylorssc

Love Taylors is what we do at Taylors FBC for our community. It is designed to serve our neighbors, build on-going relationships, and share the love of Jesus. This fall we will kick off Love Taylors with a one-day event on September 16 where we call on you, our church, to use your gifts, skills, and passions to reach out and partner with neighbors in the shadow of our steeple to help meet needs through projects such as home repairs, bicycle repairs, and neighborhood beautification.

Village Wrench 10 am – Noon | The Academy of Arts, 80 School Street Village Wrench is a public workshop and neighborhood effort to enrich Greenville’s urban communities through bicycle repair, bike earning, and volunteerism. The newest monthly repair site is right here in Taylors! If your neighbor’s bike needs attention, they can bring it by. We will have mechanics and the tools on site. www.villagewrench.org Home Repairs

9 am – Noon | 1 - 5 pm | Taylors' Residences Skilled volunteers will form several Home Repair Teams to respond to needs expressed by women coming through our Single Mom’s Oil Change. Repairs may be minor ones completed that day or larger, on-going repairs. Volunteers may serve for a half or full day.

Just for Today Recovery Homes

9 am - Noon | Just for Today Locations Just for Today operates three homes in Taylors that minister to ladies as they journey to freedom from addictions. These homes are within two miles of our church. The women of Taylors FBC have established an on-going ministry to the residents of these houses, and three teams of volunteers will continue to love these women on September 16 by meeting needs that include minor repairs, painting and yard work.

Mission 1:27 Giving Closet 9 am – Noon | Taylors Community Center Mission 1:27 ministers to adopting and fostering families and also collects items to help meet needs through a Giving Closet located in the Taylors Community Center (lumberyard building.) Volunteers will sort and pack clothing to give to DSS workers for “first day kits” to be given to foster children on their first day in a new home. Financial Toolbox for Women 9 am- Noon | Taylors Ministry Center This free workshop for women in the Taylors community, including our Single Mom’s Oil Change participants and Just For Today residents, will explain basic financial management from budgeting to savings. A skilled financial team and women’s mentors will be teaching simple, yet effective strategies for managing home and family finances. Miracle Hill Oil Change Clinic 9 am – Noon | Miracle Hill Boys Shelter A team of our skilled Single Mom’s Oil Change volunteers will lead an oil change clinic for the boys at Miracle Hill Boys Shelter to teach basic car maintenance skills. Please join us in prayer for the relationships that will be built through this clinic. Refuge Sports: Fishing and Cookout 3 - 7 pm | Mountain Creek Volunteers will host families through Refuge Sports for an afternoon of fishing, recreation, and a cookout. Beautification and Clean Up

9 am – Noon

Main Street, Taylors: As we search for ways to connect with neighbors and express our love for the neighborhood

around us, several volunteer teams will work in conjunction with Greenville County and private businesses on clean-up and beautification efforts along Main Street, Taylors. Taylors Park on Taylors Road: Our own Taylors Park provides recreational opportunities for families, local organizations, and the surrounding community. Families may choose to serve together on simple clean-up and beautification efforts. Corey Burns Park, Boling Court: This park is located less than two miles from Taylors FBC and provides ball fields for Northwood Little League. We will work with the Greenville County Recreation Department to assist with basic cleanup and beautification efforts such as mulching, pruning and painting. Families may choose to serve together on this project as well.

Prayer Teams

9 am- Noon | Taylors, SC If you are unable to physically serve on this day, we invite you to join one of our prayer teams! We will have prayer walking and prayer driving teams who will go out into the Taylors community to cover the streets in prayer. We will also have a prayer room for those who want to participate but prefer to stay on campus!

You still have an opportunity to serve on this special day! Contact Kristin Evans at kristine@taylorsfbc.org or 864-678-2238 to learn how.

Dear Church Family, We’ve been planning and praying for the fall season and now that the calendar signals September is here, we’re off and running. This past summer, we were both challenged and encouraged by the Word as we examined the life of Peter in the gospels and in the book of Acts. September 10, we’ll begin a new sermon series on the first book Peter wrote for Jesus’ followers. I’m looking forward to walking through 1 Peter with you every Sunday and praying for God to build His body here. I’m also looking forward to our Love Taylors kick-off event scheduled for Saturday, September 16. This day is filled with opportunities for Life Groups, students, and families to engage our local community in a day of hands-on service. This is more than a one-day event, it is the continuation of our love for our Jerusalem that we pray sees many transformed by the gospel. I’m so grateful for you all and looking forward to the days ahead.

Why Halifax?

by Jeremy Thompson

Three years ago Larry Bateman came to my office with a burden for Canada. God had used Taylors FBC in the past to establish a church in Alberta, Canada. He had been a part of that ministry, and now he was asking, “Could God use us again in the same way?” This started a three-year process of seeking the Lord and His direction for Taylors FBC in Canada. We began with prayer, then by God’s gracious hand, a meeting was established that included Peter and Rob Blackaby. Each is influential in the development of the Church in Canada. During that meeting they put before us the city of Toronto and the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Each is a city of great need, but where was God leading us? After many more weeks and months of prayer, as well as continuing to meet with different individuals to gather more information, we began to see the Lord opening the door to Halifax. Toronto, though a city of great need, had many resources in planters and partners. Halifax, on the other hand, was not as large, but the lostness was just as great, and unfortunately the planters and partners were not as many. One of the strategies of the REACH ministry is to plant churches in the most unreached places and among the most unreached peoples. Halifax is an unreached place, filled with peoples in need of the gospel, with only a handful of evangelical churches and very few church planters. Sensing that Halifax could be the place God was leading us, a vision trip was planned. Larry and BJ Bateman, Mike Greer, and Jeremy Thompson spent a week in Halifax together. It was an incredible week to see the great need, but also to build a sweet relationship with a church who desires to reach their community and plant new churches in Halifax. We all agreed this church was the church with whom to partner as a sister church, to literally stand together side-by-side in Halifax for the sake of the gospel. Last month was an exciting month! Our first REACH team went to Halifax to partner with this local church in reaching their community. I am expectant of great things. God has been faithful! He has directed our steps, He has established the partnership, He has called out this team, and I am looking forward to who He will call next. Maybe you! God is establishing His church in Halifax, and we have the privilege to be a part. Thankful!

May the people of Halifax praise the name of the Lord our God! May all the peoples praise Him!
