Summer 2018

Dear Church Family, Something special happened on April 8. At the end of our services, I asked the church to consider several commitments to the body of Christ and to others. Amazingly, among those commitments, you identified 243 names of family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and others who are lost and whom God had put on your hearts to pray for in the weeks ahead. Then on April 29, I encouraged you to take the next step “Together in Witness” just as we’ve walked “Together in the Word” since January and “Together in Worship” since Easter. I asked you to share these names with others who can join you in prayer. My hope is that you would have the opportunity to meet with that person for a meal or coffee and then ultimately share the gospel. As you walk the road of sharing the gospel with those people God put on your hearts weeks ago, can you imagine what it would be like to hear of people building deeper and trusting relationships with the lost? Can you imagine what it would be like to experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit as you share the gospel with these people for the very first time? Can you also imagine the joy of those who are praying with you to hear the stories and know they had a vital part? And lastly, can you imagine hearing of people being transformed from death in sin to life in Christ and perhaps even see them walk through the waters of baptism? This is what “Together in Witness” means, all for the glory of God and making new disciples.

together in Worship Taylors FBC is together for “Taylors Worship” in both hours with the focus of a holy ENCOUNTER with the Living God — a response to His greatness and goodness.

together in The Word …as we read and study the Word of God together in our personal time and during teaching on Sundays and Wednesdays using the F260 Reading Plan.

together in Witness …is together in worship (ENCOUNTER) and the Word (EQUIP), our witness (ENGAGE) has a great impact on our local community, nation and all nations. Identify the person God has put into your life.

May the Lord richly pour out His grace during these weeks. I couldn’t be more grateful for your heart to engage the lost.

Share this person’s name with a friend.

Much love to you, church family.

Schedule a date and time to be with that person. Pray for the time you scheduled.

Proclaim the gospel.

Why We Go Our World Today Our world today consists of 7.4 billion people. Over 4 billion of these people — 7035 people groups — live with little to no access to the gospel.

God’s Purpose God will redeem a multitude from every tribe, tongue and nation, to be reconciled to Himself, that He may be worshiped and enjoyed forever.

God’s Means God sent His very own Son, Jesus, to come in the form of man, to live without sin, to die without blame, to be buried for three days, and then to be risen from the dead. He died in our place, that we might be forgiven of our sins, declared righteous in His sight, and reconciled to the Father. He has died so that we might live - forever.

God’s Plan The gospel, the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection, is the power of God unto salvation for all peoples, and must be proclaimed to the ends of the earth, until the end of age.

Therefore, as an act of worship and for the glory of God, Taylors FBC will equip and send our members to engage the world with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Prague — May 28 - June 4

Love Taylors is what we do at Taylors FBC for our community – we serve our neighbors, build on-going relationships, and share the love of Jesus.

Single Mom’s Oil Change August 11, 2018 Meet Marquette, her grandmother, mother, and daughter all pictured! Generations of women often attend Single Mom’s Oil Change together, giving us a wonderful opportunity to build relationships, meet needs, and minister to families in multiple ways. As this ministry has evolved over the years, we continue to look for ways to minister that go beyond an oil change. • Prayer Rooms: Faithful volunteers recently converted a large storage area to create two beautiful new prayer rooms where volunteers can take women to share and pray in private. • Prayer Follow Up: Volunteers follow up on prayer cards that are received in order to pray for women, continue building relationships, and assist with other needs. • Work Keys and Employment Coaching: Women needing employment are invited to participate in Work Keys or to have a personal employment coach assist them. • Home Repairs: Participants are given an opportunity to request help with home repairs, and then our Home Repair Team follows up to assess and hopefully help meet the need. If you’re looking for a place to serve, join us on August 11 and change oil, direct cars, bring refreshments, or serve inside by loving on women and their families. Contact annan@taylorsfbc.org for more information.

“The heart of this ministry is centered around expressing the love of Christ through our volunteer’s interactions with single moms, grandmothers and their children. Our Prayer Room is designed to offer a quiet place for these ladies to open up and share what is on their hearts and seek prayer with our prayer warriors. During the morning hours you hear sweet chatter as single moms connect and fellowship with other single moms; you hear children giggling and playing with our volunteers and you witness tears and hugs as walls are broken down as the spirit of the Lord moves throughout the room. A beautiful event for which these ladies are so grateful…so this ministry is much more than an oil change. - Kim Thomas, Volunteer

Special Needs and Disabilities Many families that have children with disabilities or special needs are unable to find a church home that is equipped to care for their child so that parents can engage in biblical community and participate in corporate worship. Our Special Needs and Disabilities Ministry at Taylors FBC is progressing with a new “Sensory Room” created for children with special needs to have a meaningful experience. “Buddies,” are also being trained to come alongside a child on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, or special events. Please pray about becoming a Buddy with our Special Needs and Disabilities team – we would like to add four Buddies to our team (two at each worship time). Also, we would appreciate any medical professional volunteers. Contact Ashley Cox at 864-292-4056 or ashleyc@taylorsfbc.org for more information. “When my son drifted into the fog of severe autism, I went into a fog of my own, and I would still be there if it wasn’t for my church family. My pastoral staff helped me to recognize and verbalize my own disappointments and fears, and gave me space to walk through them toward joy. In the end, the power of a godly community helped me to recognize the goodness of God, and helped me to rediscover celebration.” - Father of a Special Needs Child, Key Ministries 4 | TAYLORSFBC.ORG

Special Needs and Disabilities Buddies Meet three volunteers who are faithfully serving the children in our Special Needs and Disabilities Ministry on Sunday mornings. We are so thankful for their willingness to serve and their love for these little ones.

Loving our Neighbors – All of Them The National Institute of Mental Health reports that one in five U.S. children and adults have a diagnosable mental health condition. Attributes of common mental health conditions often create barriers to church attendance and engagement for persons with mental illness and their families. At Taylors FBC it is our desire to minister to ALL of God’s people in “life transforming” ways. Some of these ways include:

Family to Family Jim and Glenda Hayes Designed specifically for families with a loved one suffering from mental illness, Family to Family is offered at Taylors FBC in the spring and fall of each year.

“After years of struggling alone with our son’s addictions and mental uncertainties, Family to Family provided a safe, loving, and knowledgeable context in which we found hope and strength.” — Participant For more information contact lovetaylors@taylorsfbc.org or call Anna at 864-678-8833. Jim and Glenda Hayes have served with Family to Family for many years. Over 370 people have been blessed by their ministry.

Mission 1:27 In March our church spent one Sunday morning hearing about the great need for foster families in our community. Since that day we have had several follow up meetings with those interested in learning more about foster care. Last month one of our member families opened their home for the six families who had expressed interest in possibly fostering since hearing about the need. We invited a social worker who trains and licenses foster parents to come answer every question. Nothing was held back! We discussed trauma, safety, fire alarms, costs, stipends, background checks, babysitters, and more. At the close of the meeting, two of our Taylors FBC families immediately said "Yes" to the call of fostering! Three more families took the information to pray and consider moving forward in the near future. Pray for these two families who are moving forward to provide a loving home for foster children! Wrap around them with your love and support as they take this step of faith. And don't forget to encourage those long-serving foster families in our church who need on-going prayer and words of encouragement from their friends and Life Groups as well. Thank you, church, for keeping the needs of foster children and their families in your prayers! Shannon Keating, Mission 1:27 Leader As families respond to God’s call to care for the orphan we see more vulnerable children up close and personal. It doesn’t take long to realize that early childhood trauma has taken a toll on the child and traditional forms of parenting don’t have the same effect. Through Mission 1:27 and the Greenville County Foster Parent Association, monthly training and periodic workshops are hosted for foster parents at Taylors FBC. Contact lovetaylors@taylorsfbc.org or call Anna at 864-678-8833.

Well Done Good and Faithful Servant…

Our dear friend, Betty Groom, stepped into the glorious presence of our Lord on Monday, April 16, 2018. Betty served as our church receptionist from 2006 until 2017, and our staff and church body grew to love, trust, and depend on Betty in many ways. Our staff counted on Betty to know which phone calls to send our way and when to call first to prepare us for a difficult call or an unexpected visitor in the lobby. She ministered to our congregation and those in the community before she ever connected them with a member of our Ministerial Staff. Our church embraced the Just for Today Recovery Ministry, owned and operated by Cassandra (“Cassy”) Brayboy, in 2012. The ministry began with a few volunteers who scheduled a monthly Saturday brunch, fellowship and devotional time with the residents of two recovery houses. Cassy continued to expand her recovery ministry and today operates four houses – three within about a mile of the church and one in Greer, housing a total of around twenty-four women.

Betty & Cassy

In 2015, we needed a new leader for the Just for Today Ministry, and Betty came forward and shared that she felt God speaking to her about taking that leadership role. I trusted Betty to listen to God, but I had no idea at the time that she was such a gifted leader. I still shake my head in amazement at what a healthy ministry blossomed under Betty’s leadership! Today we have approximately twenty-five volunteers who assist with monthly brunch and devotionals, periodic Bible studies such as Total Forgiveness, an annual “reunion” picnic for former and current residents of Just for Today, an annual Christmas luncheon, a recent fundraising event, and collection and distribution of many essential products for residents of the homes. God did immeasurably more, and He used our Betty, a faithful, willing servant leader. So, we grieve our loss together – not as those who have no hope, but as those who can only imagine what it must be like for Betty to see Jesus face-to-face and hear the words we all hope to hear – “Well done good and faithful servant.” Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His saints. We mourn our great loss, but we rejoice in Betty’s great homecoming. — Kathy Dority, Minister of Connections

Training to Become a Life Group Leader The Leader Pipeline exists to train, affirm, and employ men and women to lead in a Life Group setting. Each participant is paired with an existing Life Group leader and is mentored for three to six months. During this time participants have the opportunity to study resources, meet with their mentor, observe multiple settings, take part in an existing Life Group, and have opportunities to teach alongside their mentor. At the end of the mentorship, the mentee is then affirmed in multiple areas before being deployed into a leadership role. Through this process, our hope is that men and women will feel encouraged, equipped, and ready to build up the body of Christ. If you sense God calling you to be trained, please contact Beth Caskey at bethc@taylorsfbc.org.

WORSHIP MINISTRY TO

LONDON As we began to talk to the IMB about a partnership to the city of London, God was already at work in the details. God had already opened doors to this great city as the Taylors Worship Ministry in January of 2017 announced a Music/Mission trip to London, along with FBC Simpsonville. On July 10, 46 folks from Taylors FBC and 26 from FBC Simpsonville will leave for ten days of singing, sightseeing, and ministry in London. The group will include 50+ singers and instrumentalists, presenting concerts in:

July 12: Bath Abbey Temple, Bath

July 15: Kensington Temple, London

July 13: University Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Oxford

July 16: Wesley’s Chapel, London

July 17: Southwark Cathedral, London

In addition, small groups will sing and share Christ on the street corners along the Tube (mass transit system) stations in the area that Taylors FBC has been assigned for the London partnership. Pray also for the first REACH team of ten that will head to London in August. Pray for us as we travel, July 10-21, and for gospel conversations to result from both concerts and in all our interactions along the way. Pray for the city of London as we begin an official partnership for the gospel!

RETURNS TO

NOLA IN 2018 18

82 students and leaders will depart June 9 for New Orleans, Louisiana to spend a week serving Gentilly Baptist Church. The choir will be leading one of GBC’s annual Neighborhood Summer Day Camp weeks as well as singing in several churches, presenting an outdoor concert in the French Quarter, visiting nursing homes and other ministries through local agencies. Pray for this team as they complete preparations, travel to New Orleans and minister through Christ.
