Measured Drawings

PLAN

SECTION

The unbrella is photographed though the top and then traced, so I got the plan. Besides, all the dimensions are measured by a tape. The section I drew is related to the dimensions of the plan except the height of the umbrella.

2

ELEVATION For elevation, when the umbrella is open, I found several important joints and measured the dimensions between the points (shown in Analysis).

3

Analysis

The drawing shows how the branches joins into a point. (Below)

The object I selected is the bone and skin system. It is because of the quality of metal which is tough that it is difficult to measure the dimensions of pieces of bones when it is open. Hence, I measured it using a tape when it is loose. The frame of the umbrella is organised by repeating and rotating the similar structure (Above).

Digital Model

The model is maded using Rhino. Here show the different views of this model. Besides, these views also illustrate the

Sketch Model

I tried to use triangle structure to create my model element. I selected this kind of structure because triangle frame has a good quality of stability that can easy to carry the weight of a person. Besides, it can also create flexible space. The attempts are mainly applied to Sketch Design 2.

Sketch Design #1

This idea of spleeping pod is from the easy carring and folded umbrella. It can use small space to save and carry it but create a huge space. The triangle structure is stable so that it can carry a person. Besides, I use frabric inside the bone structure that create a sense of privacy.

Sketch Design #2

This design is not clear shown on these drawing. The attempts is shown above sketch model and every joint has three lines. I use the simple element to create a huge space for a person. It is free to join the elements in different ways.

Rotating Space

This design combines the principle bones and skin. Besides, the interesting point is you can sleep on both bones and skin. I created the bones in a sense of flowing and it is comfortable for a person to sleep. Additionally, it also creates a private space for sleeping.
