The Kula Ring – Collective Body and Knowledge Exchange This presentation of 60 photographs edited by Lorena Garcia Castro and Lena Rossbach, graduate students at HfG Karlsruhe (Germany), is an excerpt of a collective visual database accumulated by the TBA21 The Current Expedition Leader and Fellows during their ten-day expedition to Milne Bay Province in Papua New Guinea from September 30 – October 9, 2015. Castro and Rossbach were tasked to make a selection - based on a pool of images that included everyday snapshots, as well as professional photos - without any prior knowledge or background information of Papua New Guinea. The present collection of these images invites the audience to reflect on questions and dynamics surrounding image production, representation, and curatorial selection. It fosters a critical approach of the ways how we think and work with images.
