Is it Too Late for

AMERICA?

I

have a very serious question for you. “Have we waited too late?” I believe with all of my heart that there is a God in heaven who with passion wants to bless and guide us. He has told us, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14). Have we waited too late as a people and as a nation to seek the Lord? The people of God made this “too late” declaration in Jeremiah 8:20, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” It was over. They went into captivity. God used the Babylonians to judge them, and this is the summary of what happened. It was too late.

WE MUST RECEIVE THE WORD OF GOD. THEY DID NOT. “The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?” (Jeremiah 8:9)

WE MUST BE THOROUGH AND LET GOD BE THOROUGH WITH US. THEY WERE NOT. “For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.” (Jeremiah 8:11)

WE MUST BE ASHAMED OF OUR SIN. THEY WERE NOT. “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.” (Jeremiah 8:12)

WE MUST BE URGENT. THEY WERE NOT. “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” (Jeremiah 8:20)

WE MUST IDENTIFY WITH THE HURT OF OTHERS. THEY DID NOT. “For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt....” (Jeremiah 8:21)

WE MUST APPLY THE HEALING BALM. THEY DID NOT. “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?” (Jeremiah 8:22)

WE MUST CONTINUE SEEKING GOD. THEY DID NOT. “Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!” (Jeremiah 9:1) Do you believe it is too late? Is the hand of God’s judgment already released and the fire about to fall? Oh yes, we have sown and we are going to reap, but is there still time for revival? That is all I am praying for. Will you pray with me? 

After a while the dear man said to me, “The book that changed Dr. Roberson’s life came from this bookstore.” I knew the story that was being told because I had heard it years before from Dr. Roberson. When I asked the owner for additional copies of that book I learned it had been out of print for more than 30 years and that I was the first to ask for a copy in many years. My friend, you have in your hand that book and a companion of that book from a series by B. McCall Barbour on, “Death to Self.” May this be as life-changing for you as it was for Dr. Lee Roberson and for me.

The most wonderful work we do on earth is the work we do to establish a truly Christan home. This home is built on a marriage that continues to follow God’s principles. It is founded on the Bible and develops a oneness in Christ. This oneness serves as the fertile ground for all else the Lord desires to do in and through us.

What did He do? He caused a deep sleep to come upon Adam. He took a rib from Adam, and from that rib He created a woman. Adam awoke and saw the most beautiful creature he had ever looked upon. The Local Church

There is nothing more powerful in your community than your local church. It is God’s instrument to get His message of the gospel to everyone. No matter what size it may be, never underestimate what the Lord can do through your local church. God’s Word declares that the local assembly is the ‘pillar and ground of the truth.’

Define the Gospel Initiative of Your Church

“The Pillar and Ground of the Truth”

I

n order to spread the doctrines of the Gospel, we have formed societies. There are missionary societies appended to every denomination. These societies are to be pillars and grounds of the Truth, not so much in the maintenance of the Truth as in the spreading of it. We have been wondering why our societies have not greater success. I believe the reason is because there is not a single word in the Book of God about anything of the kind! The church of God is the pillar and ground of the Truth—not a society! The church of God never ought to have delegated to any society whatever, a work which it behooved her to have done herself. Instead of sending our

the whole of the work herself! The city missionary would be a member of the church sent out and supported by the church itself. The missionary to foreign lands would have the church at his back to whom he would look for support, both in prayers and in subscriptions. I may be wrong, but this has deeply laid upon my soul; and I shall never be satisfied till I see in this church an organization so complete that it does not need a supplement—able to do every good work, and fulfill every necessary office of itself and by itself— welcoming always the cooperation of “ to depend others—but never needing upon a society for the accomplishment of any purpose to which the Lord God has been pleased to call it. 

subscriptions to associations, we ought to have picked our own men out of our own midst, and found the means to send them forth to preach the Truth as it is in Jesus, ourselves! Now do not misunderstand me. I would not say a single word against any society for the spread of God’s Truth. But I must repeat again, that all societies of that sort spring from an irregular and unscriptural position of the church. The church, if she were in her right state, would do

EVANGELIZING SMALL TOWNS IN AMERICA

E

very great civilization in the past that decayed has first manifested its decline in the family life. Insidious enemies are cutting away at the spiritual foundation of America’s greatness. The forces of unrighteousness and unbelief are undermining our security. These attacks are from every direction. The old ideals of family prayer at home and the family pew at church services are being abandoned. Jesus Christ proclaimed, “Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

Churches that are evangelizing the small towns of America are on the front lines of advancing with God in our nation. Surely you can see this need. Our God will be exalted through the righteousness of His remnant in our nation. This righteousness is inherent in the gospel of Christ. The Evangelistic Sunday School

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” The evangelistic Sunday School is the reaching and guiding arm of the church: seeking the lost and guiding them to the Truth–following the example of the great Shepherd of our souls. In a sermon emphasizing the necessity of the Sunday School, C. H. Spurgeon said “There are two great James Zenker Cathy Henschen Lareina Kiser things which a Church ought always to have, namely, an arm to gather with and a bosom to carry in.”

“There are two great things which a Church ought always to have, namely, an arm to gather with and a bosom to carry in.” C.H. Spurgeon “An arm to gather with” speaks of the evangelistic thrust of the Sunday School. More than simply a special hour for the “church children,” it should be a tool for finding and reaching boys and girls, teenagers, and men and women who would otherwise not be under the teaching of God’s Word. An evangelistic Sunday School goes out into the community every week, seeking after lost souls to bring them under the power of God’s Word. Once those souls are brought into the evangelistic Sunday School ministry, the church acts as “a bosom to carry in.” Week after week, Sunday School teachers lovingly lift up Christ before them, teaching them through the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make them “wise unto salvation.” As faithful teachers present the gospel in each class and personally pray for their students, it is certain God’s Word will not return void. Precious lives Oxford, England Evangelistic Sunday School will be brought to Jesus. Derrick Morlan, Pastor

A VERY SMALL REMNANT–7,000 RISE UP!

G

od’s Word declares in Isaiah 1:9 the existence of a remnant in the history of ancient Israel by saying, “Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant we should have been as Sodom and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.” In other words, God said, “You are being spared because of a very small remnant.” If our beloved America forsakes God and ceases to be the great gospel sending nation, we will lose our favor among nations as a remnant nation given to God.

THE REMNANT MUST BE REMEMBERED We get awfully discouraged if we do not remember that God works through a remnant. God reminded Elijah of this truth in I Kings 19:18 saying, “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.”

THE REMNANT IS RIGHTEOUS Where will God find His righteous remnant in this world? God promised to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if He found a righteous remnant. The righteous remnant is not a group going through religious exercises, but those who have truly repented of sin. “And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?” (Genesis 18:23)

THE REMNANT REMAINS Romans 11:5 says, “Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” Somewhere there is a remnant of people holding to the truth of God’s Word. It is not what we are looking for that counts. It is what God is looking for. God looked at His ancient people and He said, “There is a very small remnant, and I will hold back my hand of judgment because of “that very small remnant.” God is looking across this world, our land, our churches, and our communities for that remnant that is given to Him.

“If you want to find the pulse of a nation, look to the churches.”

LAUNCH A CAMPUS GOSPEL CRUSADER INITIATIVE To take the gospel message to university students is to take the message of Christ to those who are the leaders of tomorrow. We can make a difference in our own nation and around the world by reaching students with the gospel and teaching them the powerful truth of the Word of God. Evangelistic teams are organized to be on campus and in student housing areas near the campus throughout each week. A weekly Bible study on campus is held in a classroom in one of the education buildings. This Campus Bible Study has been effective to strengthen Christians in their faith, and also to provide a meeting that Christian students can easily invite their friends to visit so that they might hear a clear presentation of the gospel.
