HELPING YOU NAVIGATE TO OPTIMAL HEALTH

David Dunaief, M.D. Integrative Medicine

• A Whole Body Approach • Reversing, Preventing & Treating Chronic Disease and Managing Weight by Connecting Conventional Medicine with Lifestyle Modifications Our Philosophy is simple. We believe wellness is derived through nutritional medicine and lifestyle interventions that prevent and treat chronic diseases. Medications have their place - and in some cases can be lifesaving. However, there’s no medication without side effects. The goal should be to limit the need for medications - or minimize the number of medications you take on a regular basis. You are not limited by your genes. Fortunately, most diseases are based primarily on epigenetics, which are environmental influences, and not on genetics. Epigenetics literally means above or around the gene. In epigenetics, lifestyle choices impact gene expression. Just because your first degree relatives may have had a disease, you are not predestined to follow suit. We are specialists who will partner with your primary care physician. A standard medical education does not integrate enough nutritional medicine and other lifestyle interventions. We bridge that gap.

47 Route 25A, Setauket NY

We use evidence-based medicine to guide our decision-making. The amount of research related to nutrition and other lifestyle issues continues to grow rapidly, with many studies showing significant beneficial effects on health. We treat each patient as an individual. We will work with you to develop a plan that allows you to take a proactive role in managing your own health. The health outcomes are worth the effort. Is disease reversal possible? Absolutely! Study evidence has found this to be true, and many of our patients have experienced reversal of diabetes, autoimmune disorders, migraines, and cardiovascular disease, just to mention a few. In many cases, because of their exceptional results, our patients have been able to reduce or eliminate their medications. Read more common questions and answers on medicalcompassmd.com. Dr. Dunaief has written over 2,000 medical research articles that have been published in Times Beacon Record Newspapers.

“I lost 135 lbs and have kept it off for several years with the guidance, recipes and encouragement that Dr. Dunaief has provided. Also my inflammation has been reduced significantly. This means I was able to stop my two immunosuppressives for rheumatoid arthritis. I have no more pain or swelling in my joints and can move my fingers normally. This is a surreal experience. I also have reduced my CA125 by tenfold to well within the normal range associated with my BRCA1 ovarian cancer.” – C.H.

Dr. Dunaief builds a customized plan for each patient - he knows that “no body is the same.”

ON THE COVER: ‘Fauna and Flora’ by Bonnie Boeger, Sound Beach

hile all the seasons have their fans, some of us are particularly fond of fall. The humidity of the summer lifts, the temperatures drop to the 70s and 60s — universally comfortable for all humans — the rain tends to BY LEAH S. DUNAIEF abate, leaving gorgeous blue sky, and in all that sunlight, the colors of trees, lawns, harbors, mums and pumpkins become intense.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2019 | HARVEST TIMES | PAGE A5

While we are sad to see the leisure of summer move away, there is more order in households and more spring in our steps. There still remain many of the pleasures of summer to be enjoyed. We can BBQ, comfortably walk the beaches, watch the sailboats with their sails standing proud in the breeze and play any number of games outdoors until the real chill sets in. We can also sleep comfortably at night with the windows open and the utility bill at least temporarily on hold. So read through our pages, pick out some enticing activities and go for them. We here at Times Beacon Record News Media work hard through the summer to present you with these choices for the fall. Enjoy!

LONG ISLAND FALL FESTIVAL

he Long Island Fall Festival at Heckscher Park will return for its 26th annual incarnation this Columbus Day weekend. Hosted by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Huntington, the event has something for everyone. The festival begins with a worldclass carnival and live music Friday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., attendees can enjoy the carnival and live music as well as enter contests and purchase merchandise from street vendors. Merchants will line up along Prime and Madison streets, adjacent to Heckscher Park, as well as within the grounds of the park. On Monday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival will offer the carnival and in-park vendors for another day of fall fun. A food court will be available all four days and admission to the festival is free.

How to get there: Heckscher Park is located at Prime Avenue and Route 25A in Huntington. In addition to street parking, attendees can find free parking at the Huntington LIRR station and take a shuttle bus for $1 round trip. How to participate: It takes more than organizers and attendees to make a festival a successful one. Sponsorships: The Long Island Fall Festival offers unparalleled marketing, advertising and promotional opportunities to corporate sponsors. It also seeks ways to showcase the important work of local charities, providing revenue-generating opportunities and the philanthropic side of the business community. Vendors: Hundreds of vendors, including local artists, businesses, arts and crafts and nonprofit organizations, line the streets, showcasing their products and services. Volunteers: An event this large could not happen without the support of volunteers who help ensure a safe and smooth event for guests. Volunteer for a few hours, a full day or the entire weekend. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Every volunteer receives a volunteer festival T-shirt, bottled water and snacks. For more information and to get involved in this year’s Long Island Fall Festival, call 631-423-6100, email info@huntingtonchamber.com or visit www.lifallfestival.com.
