When the question is to be or not to be, there is only one answer. Brian Cox gives a powerhouse performance playing the fictional Sir Michael Gifford, the legendary Shakespearean actor of stage and screen who is now retired. Suffering from an incurable disease and in his waning years, Sir Michael has isolated himself from all but a loyal few, whom he bullies relentlessly. Enter young Dorottya, a Hungarian refugee with a passion for the stage who has just been hired as his newest caregiver.
