Bloomington Public Library 01

Location: Bloomington, IL

YEAR: 2021

Software: Revit, EnScape

The city of Bloomington found the need to renovate and improve its library to meet the emerging needs and growth of the area. Since the existing library was built in 1976, Bloomington’s population grew by 92%, while the one library expansion increased space by only 24%. The $25.2 million project consists of adding a 3-story addition of over 21,000 square feet to the building, renovating over 57,000 square feet of existing space, and adding 90 additional parking spaces along with a 2-level parking structure. I primarily worked on the parking structure and lot of the project, while also assisting on the addition and interior renovations.

Terence Cardinal Cooke Hospital 03

Location: New York, NY

YEAR: 2019

Software: Revit, AutoCAD, EnScape

This project consisted of renovations to multiple floors of the hospital wing of the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, in collaboration with another architecture firm, Dalpos Architects. Our focus was on the basement and first floor of the hospital wing, with the project including a kitchen relocation at the basement level, a lobby renovation, and restroom renovations on the first floor. The firstfloor design aims to create a more inviting and appealing entrance to the lobby space with respect to the original design by picking up on existing material usage as well as design characteristics.

CUSTOM KITCHEN REDESIGN 04

Location: Barbados

YEAR: 2019

Software: SketchUp

Designing a kitchen renovation for my grandmother, who lives in Barbados, was both a professional and personal achievement. With my grandmother being an elderly woman, moving in and out of the existing kitchen was uncomfortable and not ideal. The design prioritized accessibility and a more spacious layout, as opposed to the previous congested design. Relocating the refrigerator and removing the cabinetry that subdivided the kitchen and dining space were the basis for the design. I provided millwork design and finishes to Smart Kitchen, a kitchen manufacturer in Barbados who did the installation.

Bellevue Men’s Shelter 05

Location: New York, NY

YEAR: 2016

Software: AutoCAD

The Bellevue Men’s Shelter is New York City’s largest homeless men’s shelter accommodating approximately 850 men per night. The building opened in 1933 and initially housed the psychiatric ward of the Bellevue Hospital before becoming the homeless shelter it is today in 1984 once the psychiatric ward moved into the new Bellevue Hospital next door.

Bellevue was a major project for the firm given the political ramifications and scope. Inspections have shown the building to have multiple unsafe conditions and safety violations. The scope of this project includes restoration and renovation of the building’s facades and cornices, including brick, limestone, and terra cotta replacements, as well as a full replacement of roof and drainage systems.

SKETCH OF TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION LAYOUTS TO HOUSE RESIDENTS DURING PHASES OF WORK

26

As a result of the implications the facade reconstruction work would have on the interior of the building, residents needed to be relocated according to the areas of construction. I led the design efforts of this phase of the project while presenting the schematic designs to clients and being approved with the layouts. With this being a homeless men’s shelter to remain open while under construction, certain wings and floors of the building needed to be refitted and designed to house the residents during the phases of work.

Creston Public Library 06

Location: Creston, IL

YEAR: 2022

Software: Revit, EnScape

The village of Creston had the desire to bring a new library to the area to serve the population of Dement Township, the Village of Creston, Illinois, and surrounding areas. With an increased number of visitors every month at the existing location, the new building is designed to meet both the current and future needs of the community. The project included a brand new 7,600 sq. Ft. Library including a children’s area, adult area, study rooms, and meeting rooms. I worked directly with the project architect on creating the full drawing set for cost estimating.

Public’s Stadium Garden (Thesis Project) 09

Location: St. Louis, MO

YEAR: 2016

Software: Rhino, VRay, AutoCAD, Illustrator, Photoshop

This thesis focused on rethinking the urban stadium and its place in relation to the city. The project featured a redesigning of the existing Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri for a new MLS franchise while also serving as a public park for the community’s use on non-game days. Rather than having the stadium sit awkwardly within the city, left empty most days, this thesis intends to rethink how this space can be utilized daily, connecting fragments of space and linking different parts of the city together for an ‘open’ stadium that can lure new groups of people to the neighborhood.

There is a common stadium problem in the world nowadays as many stadiums are heavily funded by the public, yet members of the community can only inhabit the venues on game day or event day. This should be challenged and rather than having the stadium sit empty on most days, we should rethink how the space can be utilized daily. By integrating a renovated stadium with the city and implementing parks and green spaces, the community’s daily use of the stadium is facilitated.
