Greetings from the China Exchange Initiative! We are excited to report the successful completion of the fall portion of the Administrator Shadowing Project (ASP). The professional development week in Boston and Columbus went off swimmingly, with Chinese administrators from Anhui, Beijing, Hebei and Hubei hearing lectures from education experts, visiting local schools and learning about American culture and society. From November 12-18 they Shadowed their American counterparts in districts in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio and Pennsylvania. In 2012 CEI will broaden cooperation with our partners at the Hebei Bureau of Education, who have done excellent work administering the China side of ASP. In January we will travel to Shijiazhuang to meet with Hebei program alums and members of ASP class of 2012. While there, we will introduce Wisconsin administrators to their new Heibei partners via Skype. After departing Shijiazhuang, CEI will visit counterparts in Xi’an and Yun’nan, to discuss the possibility of starting ASP programs there. CEI is currently building a cohort of Massachusetts charter school administrators to participate in the 2012-2013 Shadowing Project. We hope to soon begin recruiting ASP cohorts in New York State, New Jersey, Oregon, Ohio and Pennsylvania. On January 27th CEI will co-sponsor an educator conference at Boston University entitled Global Education Strategies: U.S.-China School Exchanges. Panelists will discuss the What, Why and How of building school-to-school relationships. “100,000 Strong Initiative” Deputy Director Kim McClure and Columbia University professor Ben Liebman will keynote the event. We strongly encourage all ASP alumni and participants to attend this very special event. (see flyer below)
