"My name is Donae Pinnock, and I'm a proud Jamaican hailing from the cool hills of Manchester. Born in the town of Mandeville, I grew up in the small community of Knockpatrick with primarily my mother and younger brother, and though my immediate family was small, I was supported closely by my aunt -my mother's sister- and her family.

I look back on my childhood with very fond memories. My home was filled with love and support, and I did not perceive we were poor My mother was a teacher and stretched to make ends meet. And typically, in some strict Jamaican or Caribbean households, I wasn't allowed to easily run down the street to a friend or have sleepovers, so friends came to my house instead, we'd spend time playing dominos, monopoly, cricket or building hand carts".
