September 5 & 6, 2012 Camarillo, California

a regional learning event sanctioned by the international Learning Community for Person Centered Practices www.learningcommunity.us

Welcome In collaboration with several service provider partners and Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center, Tri-Counties Regional Center is excited to host the fifth annual California Gathering for Person Centered Practices, to share learning and further our efforts to promote person centered system change. We believe that by extending the reach of person centered thinking and forging stakeholder partnerships through person centered practices, we can strengthen organizations and empower individuals to have greater influence and more positive control in their own lives. More than ever we need to continue work collaboratively to ensure that the service system, which is quickly changing, will continue to support people in a person centered way. This year we welcome Michael Smull, chairperson of the international Learning Community for Person Centered Practices, and owner of Support Development Associates, who will explore what is needed to create person centered systems and help us reflect on the importance of environment in providing person centered supports and services. David Wetherow, who has long been involved as a facilitator and consultant in the field of community living, will participate from Canada via web conference, to share his perspective on building enduring, engaged and creative personal support networks. Friends and colleagues from across California and the United States will make this a rich and dynamic learning event. We extend a special thanks to all those who have volunteered their time and expertise to create this year’s California Gathering. We are especially pleased to invite you to join an online learning community to continue our dialogue throughout the year. Be sure to sign up at the registration desk to receive your personal invitation and check out the learning marketplace for an orientation to our online groupsite where you can ask questions, search for topics, download resources, and continue to expand our sphere of knowledge, understanding and practice. The California Gathering is a collective learning experience and your participation and contribution is welcomed and appreciated. We hope you will take the opportunity today, tomorrow, and throughout the year, to build new partnerships and try new applications of person centered practices. Sincerely, 2012 California Gathering Planning Team Tina Calderaro-Mendoza, Person Centered Thinking Coordinator, Tri-Counties Regional Center Joe Donofrio, Executive Director, CHOICESS Lisa Padgett, Vice President of Quality Improvement, PathPoint, Inc.
