Coupland remembered at Service of Thanksgiving
The life and work of the late Kevin Coupland, a much-admired retired lawyer at Misick & Stanbrook, was celebrated through a Service of Thanksgiving at the Catholic Church on the Leeward Highway in Providenciales on Saturday, January 28.
During the touching service, family and friends of Mr Coupland gathered for reflection, solace and to listen to hymns and to a eulogy of his life.
The event was officiated by Father Orlando.
Mr Coupland, who died in December of 2022, at the age of 79, spent 15 official years at the reputable law firm in the TCI.
The Englishman, born in South Hammersmith, London, graduated with Honours when he did his law degree at Christ’s College in Cambridge at the age of 21.
He then accepted a position as a lecturer at Slough College of Further Education, before passing the bar finals a few years later.
Mr Coupland started his legal career as a general lawyer at the Department of Imperial Chemical
Industries (ICI) and rapidly rose through the ranks.
Work took him to Brussels, Belgium, during which time he met and formed a friendship with the late Clive Stanbrook OBE.
In the late 80s, Mr Stanbrook formed a partnership called Misick & Stanbrook with Ariel Misick KC and he persuaded Mr Coupland, who was formally called to the Bar in England in 1985, to join.
Mr Coupland arrived in Grand Turk in 1989 and was admitted to the Turks and Caicos bar a short while after.
He worked as the senior commercial lawyer and was a partner at Misick & Stanbrook until he retired in May of 2005.
Even after retiring, he was still a regular visitor and would give his legal advice.
According to his eulogy, he produced exquisite legal opinions and ribald limericks with equal enthusiasm and skills.
After the church service, his former colleagues and friends held a Memorial Reception for him at Baci Restaurant.

Beyoncé announces Renaissance world tour, as fans brace for ticket rush
BEYONCÉ has announced a 43date world tour in support of her critically-acclaimed Renaissance album, including five nights in the UK.
The shows will kick off in Sweden on 10 May, before landing at Cardiff’s Principality stadium a week later.
Further UK dates will take place in Edinburgh on 20 May, Sunderland on 23 May and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 29 and 30 May.
Ticket demand is expected to be huge for her first solo tour since 2016.
A series of pre-sales for the star’s UK shows will begin at 10:00 GMT on Thursday, before tickets then go on general sale on Tuesday.
In North America, fans are being asked to register for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan process - which the company says will filter out touts - before ticket pre-sales open on Monday.
Those who have registered will be entered into a “lottery-style process” if demand outstrips the number of available tickets.
Politicians in the US, who are already investigating Ticketmaster over the fumbled sale of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, will be keeping an eagle eye on how the systems cope with Beyoncé’s concerts.

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo welcome third child
TV host and singer Adam Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed their third baby recently.
faced criticism for performing in a country where homosexuality and gender reassignment are outlawed.
Critics said that contradicted the message of her latest album, which explicitly celebrates black and queer dance culture.
Beyoncé conceived the album as “a place to dream and to find escape” during the pandemic, layering her songs with multiple samples and references to club music, from Nile Rodgers’ Studio 54 disco grooves and Grace Jones’ imperious soul, to less-celebrated movements like bounce and dancehall.
Exclaim magazine called it “the sound of a once-in-a-generation superstar performing at her peak”, while the Guardian described it as “a breath-taking, maximalist tour de force”.
The 43-year-old Maroon 5 frontman and former “The Voice” panelist and the 34-year-old former Victoria’s Secret model also share daughters Gio Grace, 4, and Dusty Rose, 6.
People magazine confirmed news of the birth. No other details about the newest addition to their family were available.
The couple first said they were expecting baby number three in September and Prinsloo posted frequent updates on Instagram.
The announcement was quickly followed by Levine publicly denying allegations he had had an affair with Instagram model Sumner Stroh who shared purported screenshots of messages from Levine on TikTok.
“I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner,” he said in a statement. One of the messages Stroh claims Levine sent her asked whether it would be OK if he named his third child after her. “I’m having another baby and if it’s a boy I really wanna name it Sumner. You okay with that? DEAD serious,” the message read with a shrug emoji.
“I did not have an affair, nevertheless, I crossed the line during a regrettable period in my life,” he said. “In certain instances, it became inappropriate; I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family. My wife and my family is all I care about in this world. To be this naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that truly matters to me was the greatest mistake I could ever make. I will never make it again. I take full responsibility. We will get through it. And we will get through it together.”
