Supreme and Appellate Courts to embark on month-long vacation

The Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal will go on a one-and-a-half-month judicial vacation starting August 1.

Registrar of the Court, Narendra Lalbeharry made the announcement on Saturday, July 15, advising that during the long vacation a Judge will be available to hear bail applications, to deal with sufficient hearings and matters that are urgent or require prompt attention, as well as those matters that have already been listed for hearing during August.

The Supreme Court will resume sitting on September 25, while the Court of Appeals commences its third session for the year on October 2.

The registrar informed that Judicial Education Week will run from September 20 to 22.

Meanwhile, Lalbeharry advises that anyone who wishes to have a matter heard during the long vacation will be required to file a certificate of urgency, setting out the reasons why the matter is urgent or requires prompt attention.

He said the matter will not be listed for hearing unless the judge deems it fit for urgent hearing.

The Court Registries in both Grand Turk and Providenciales will continue to operate between the hours of 8:30 am and 4 pm from Monday to Thursday and from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm on Fridays.
