Public Consultations and Online Survey Announced for Amendment of Immigration Ordinance in the Turks and Caicos Islands
PROVIDENCIALES - The Ministry of Immigration and Border Services (MIBS) is pleased to announce the launch of public consultations and an online survey to gather feedback on proposed amendments to the Immigration Ordinance (2021). These amendments aim to enhance and update the existing immigration policies to better serve the interests of the country and its residents. The public’s input and engagement are essential to shaping these changes, and MIBS welcomes all stakeholders to participate in this important process.
The proposed amendments to the Immigration Ordinance include several key points that will contribute to a more robust and effective immigration framework. The government has identified the need for changes in the following areas:
1. Permits: The types, requirements, conditions, and duration of permits for various purposes, such as work permits, Residence and Home Owner’s permits.
2. Employment and Labour Migration: The entry and regulation of foreign workers, including temporary workers and unskilled workers.
3. Immigration Enforcement: The powers and responsibilities of immigration officers.
4. Appeals and Judicial Review: Processes for appealing immigration decisions and seeking judicial review of immigration cases.
5. Family Reunification: Provisions for family reunification, specifying the eligibility criteria and processes for endorsing family members to join individuals already residing in the country.
To gather feedback and engage with the public, MIBS will be organizing a series of public consultation events. These events provide an opportunity for stakeholders to directly express their opinions, ask questions, and offer suggestions regarding the proposed amendments.
