Moving homegoing service for Pastor Cox

Scores of bereaved gathered at the Rock of Jesus Ministry on Sunday, July 16, to pay their respects and bid farewell to their late Pastor, Charmaine Monic Glinton-Cox, who transitioned on June 21.

The Thanksgiving Service, which started at 11 am, carried resounding songs of praise that brought waves of green and purple, the colours donned by family members and congregants respectively, to the altar, as they shouted and ran as she usually would in worship.

The altar was also dotted with circles of embrace, surrounding the gold casket as they mourned the loss of their mother, sister, friend, colleague and Pastor during the celebration of her life.

Bishop Bryant Cox, who cofounded Rock of Jesus Ministry in 2002 with his late wife, commenced the Cox family tribute with an

announcement that on November 19, her birthday, a museum would open in her honour.

He compared her impact and honour to that of Jamaica’s first National Hero, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and world-renowned Reggae legend, Bob Marley and said that “she left too much valuable memories to be put in a box...”

Among the items that will be on exhibition in the museum are the microphone used by Pastor Cox, her chair, her wedding band and some pieces of fashion statement.

Bishop Cox, Past President of the Turks and Caicos Christian Council and serial entrepreneur, said he aims to raise the bar from just preaching about death when someone has transitioned to preaching about their legacy.

His sermon, guided by Matthew 22: 14 “For many are called and few are chosen”, highlighted the difference between being called and chosen and the manifestations of God’s blessings and favour in the lives of the called versus the chosen.

The Turks and Caicos mourns the loss of a community leader, who many, in their tributes, described as compassionate and selfless in the giving of prayers and gifts alike.

The high school sweethearts first moved to the Turks and Caicos from The Bahamas 29 years ago.

Pastor Cox founded the Annual Courageous Woman Conference in 2009 and became a radio household name.

In respect to her memory as a beacon of hope in Turks and

Caicos, the Premier, Hon Charles Washington Misick, declared that he “never heard anyone uttered a single negative word about Pastor Cox”.

“We admit that we have lost a giant of a woman,” he further added, noting that Pastor Cox has left an admirable legacy.

Deputy Governor, HE Anya Williams, was the first to share in a sequel of anecdotes that highlighted the same themes: the love, warmth and kindness of the late woman of God. She especially remembered the late icon for her role as a protective, sacrificial and supportive mother.

Other dignitaries present were the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Edwin Astwood; Minister of Tourism, Environment, Heritage, Maritime, Gaming and Disaster

Management, Hon Josephine Connolly, and other members of the House of Assembly.

The Minister of Transport and Housing in the Bahamas, Hon JoBeth Coleby- Davis and the President of the Turks and Caicos Christian Council, Pastor Wilbert Jennings of Kingdom Dominion International and others from Bahamas, Grand Turk and the USA also attended the service.

Over 1,000 people joined online.

Pastor Cox is survived by her husband, her four children (one daughter and three sons) and a grandchild.

Her body was committed to the family mausoleum on the “Streets of Gold” at the church’s Five Cays address. She was 49 years old at the time of her death.
