ORGANIZER

Dear Sailors and Friends! GoSAILlNGTeam is proud to be invited by Fireball Slovenia to organize Fireball Worlds in 2013. The idea of cooperation of Sailing clubs in organizing big events is already a long ongoing practice in Slovenia. GoSAILlNG Team members have many years of experience in organizing various events and have participated in many more. Katarina and Bojan were also among the key members in the Team that successfully organized 2004 Fireball Europeans.

Together with The Class,Yachting Club Portoroz and the local 'cornmunitv, we would deliver a charming event, with a lot of social program in the biggest Slovenian marina, in one of the most beautiful bays of North Adriatic, where sun and wind are making us happy most days of the year. After our last organized event, Musto Skiff Europeans in 2011, we are full of energy and ready to go for another regatta. Least but not last - GoSAILlNG policy says - that part of Entry Fee goes to charitable purposes, so this kind of social involvement would be included as well.

PRESENTATION

were once salt pans of Lucija. Today there are more than a thousand berths available in the sea, on shore and in two hangars. It is a safe port, in all winds, located in theprotected eastern part of the Gulf of Piran, where the conditions for safe navigation and recreational sailing are stable throughout the year. Many big events were held in the small bay, including RC44 Circuit, Star Class Worlds, Soling Europeans, Opti Europeans, Extreme 40 Worlds and last year - MPS Europeans. More than 30 regattas are regularly sailed every year, with support of 5 sailing clubs.

Marina Portoroz is the first marina built on Slovenia's Coast (total shore line of 46km!). Planning began as far back as 1974 and the marina was constructed on areas that were there

Today - modern Marina Portoroz offers mentioned boat facilities, two restaurants, apartments and rooms, small fitness, swimming pool, tennis courts, other recreational playing ground, mini golf and specialized stores.

EVENT

HOSTED

o

BY FIREBALL

Fireball Slovenia proudly remembers September of 2004 when we have hosted European Championship in cooperation with JK Olympic - sailing club located in the very heart of lzola, where championship was held (from September 18th to September 24th, 2004). The event was combined with Slovenian nationals 2004 on September 16th and September 17th, 2004. There was a nice report on the 2004 Yacht&Yachting Magazine by Jonathan Bale:

Europeans

in

"JK Olympic sailing club is located at the centre of Izola, Slovenia on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea. 87 Fireballs descended on JK Olympic for the 2004 Fireball European Championships, including 27 boats from the UK. In total 10 countries were represented.

1Ri INtERNATIONAl

S LOVENIA With one race scheduled for the final day and a Bora forecast the fleet set to sea with some anticipation. Anyone of the first four boats was in with a chance of taking the title. After two general recalls the fleet eventually got away. As the leaders reached the bottom of the first run the Bora arrived. The wind shifted by ninety degrees or more and quickly jumped to over thirty knots! With a good proportion of the fleet upturned by the wind and the breeze still building the race team were left with no choice but to abandon the final race. Tomas and Jan were European Champions heading up a continental European 1-2-3. A final word must go to the Slovenians who proved exceptional hosts to the event. Oh and yes they really did provide free beer in the boat pack after racing each day!"

The UK Fireball Fleet has tended to dominate the World and European Championships over the last few seasons. However, competition has been steadily building in continental Europe, with at least three crews entering the event on the back of Olympic 470 campaigns. The Slovenian Nationals, sailed on the two days leading up to the European Championships, was cut short due to the Arrival of the Bora. The Bora is cold north-easterly wind blowing from the Alps which at it's most intense can reach 100 knots. Day one of the European Championships (and post Bora) it was hot and sunny with a five to seven knot wind on a trapezoid course. The Czechs of Martin Kubovy and Roman Rocek followed by Tomas Musil and Jan Stantejsky made the best of the light airs. The second day and more light airs. Tomas and Jan demonstrated that these conditions were to their liking by taking a second race win and a third place to leave them leading overall. The Swiss pairing of Urs Schaer and Ruedi Moser moved up into second spot overall from Britain's Dave Wade and Richard Wagstaff in third.

Among Fireball sailors Fireball Slovenia is known as a good host, providing events with heigh level racing, but at the same time putting a lot of effort into social events and that is probably the reason why some foreign sailors keep coming to Slovene Nationals year after year. We are very happy to be your host again in 2013! Welcome! fjDr=~/:::;

Day three saw more breeze and a change to triangle and sausage type courses. The Brits hoped to revel in these conditions; however after three races sailed it was the Swiss Usr & Ruedi who headed the leader board. Tomas and Jan had slipped to second. Dave & Richard maintained their third spot but were now being pressed hard by the young Croatians, Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic. After the layday courses. Tomas conditions taking move up to third

it was a return to lighter winds and trapezoid and Jan once again proved they liked these the overall lead from Usr and Ruedi. Sime and Igor spot from Dave & Richard.
