Soldiers putt at the Courses of Clear Creek during the 10th annual Ben Hogan Class Friday. The tournament hosted 200 active-duty golf enthusiasts
in a free three-person scramble. The golfers were later treated to lunch and were offered the chance to win prizes, some worth more than $1,000.
Foundation provides free day of golf, fun for troops BY BLAIR DUPRE Sentinel Living Editor
The 10th annual Ben Hogan Classic kicked off at the Courses of Clear Creek, Friday, with 200 golfers. For the past decade, the Ben Hogan Classic has provided active-duty Soldiers a day full of free golfing, food and camaraderie. Command Sgt. Maj. Cliff Burgoyne, III Corps and Fort Hood command sergeant major, was dressed in his golf attire as he welcomed everyone. He kicked the event off by thanking the volunteers. “I just want to say thanks to the
volunteers really quick. You’re the folks that make this tournament happen-and make it special for us. On behalf of all the Soldiers on Fort Hood, thank you for being here, and we appreciate you,” Burgoyne said. Lt. Gen. Pat White, III Corps and Fort Hood commanding general, also dressed in golf attire, asked the crowd to give a Texassized round of applause to the volunteers and the Ben Hogan Foundation. “This partnership is special. The Hogan Foundation, the Ryan Foundation, everybody that contributes share the values of the Army,” White said. “That’s why we have a partnership.”
Lt. Gen. Pat White and Command Sgt. Maj. Cliff Burgoyne, III Corps and Fort Hood command team, give Robert Stennett, CEO of the Ben Hogan Foundation, a trophy for his dedication to Fort Hood and the Ben Hogan Classic.
He then called up John Ryan, chairman of the Ryan Foundation and Robert Stennett, chief executive officer of the Ben Hogan Foundation, to present them with
special gifts commemorating their dedication to the Ben Hogan Classic and for the joy it brings to See Golf, A6

Spring cleaning the Great Place BY BRANDY CRUZ Sentinel News Editor
Thousands of Soldiers and civilians across the installation united with a common goal of spring cleaning. “This allows us to get into our training areas to pick up any rubbish that have been dumped or units left behind,” explained Command Sgt. Maj. Matthew Ladd, command sergeant major of U.S. Army Garrison – Fort Hood. “It’s just a dedicated
time on the calendar in order to maintain good order and discipline and ensure that when anyone drives onto the Great Place, it looks like a well-kept military installation.” Every unit on Fort Hood participated in the annual spring cleanup, which helps maintain the cleanliness and readiness of the installation. Units were designated areas on a map of the training areas to go out and pick up debris. See Cleanup, A7

Andrea Kim, a volunteer with CRDAMC, poses for a photo with Lt. Gen. Pat White and Command Sgt. Maj. Cliff Burgoyne, III Corps and Fort Hood command team, as well as Kate Burgoyne, after being named the III Corps and Fort Hood Volunteer of the Year for 2022, inside the West Atrium of III Corps Headquarters April 21.
Fort Hood names Volunteer of the Year BY BRANDY CRUZ Sentinel News Editor
“The word ‘volunteer’ is defined as person who performs a service willingly, without the promise of credit or reward. The second part of that definition is truly what’s important – no promise of credit or reward,” Col. Chad R. Foster, commander of U.S. Army Garrison – Fort Hood, told the crowd
gathered in the West Atrium of III Corps Headquarters. “The only thing you thought about was the need, and that really says it all. If that was as common as we’d like, I think the world would be a much better place. What you are doing is, indeed, making our world a much better place-making our community stronger and making Fort Hood stronger.” The top three nominees for
the III Corps and Fort Hood Volunteer of the Year were honored for their service and commitment, April 21. Andrea Kim, a volunteer with Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, was named the Volunteer of the Year. “I’m really nervous,” Kim said about the recognition. “I just helped plan the family fun See Volunteer, A7
