y name is Teagan McMurray and I am the editor of tea. I named it this because tea has always been a nickname of mine and in a sense, this zine expresses who I am. I have made this Zine “to inspire” readers. Photography has always been a passion of mine, something that I have always enjoyed. I’m that girl who patrols parties with my camera looking to capture those memorable moments. Since 2003, I have taken over 27,000 photos! I also consider myself to be a bit of a romantic at heart,
which is partly why you will find quotes scattered throughout my zine. You may have noticed I’ve mentioned a word you may not have seen before: zine. What is a zine? A zine is a miniature magazine that informs a target audience of something you are passionate about. As I mentioned, photography is one of my primary passions so this zine showcases a few of my favourite photographers from all over the globe, and even includes a bit of my own work. If you would like to make contact with me, my email is teaganmcm@xtra.co.nz “Be inspired.

ords of wisdom from Robert Voltaire Im a California native and self-taught photographer.
All my life I have been inspired by images in movies, art, literature and magazines. I discovered photography accidentally. A few years ago I received a camera as a Christmas gift. It sat in the box until my birthday when I celebrated with some friends and family at the beach. One friend wanted to become a model and I shot a roll of film and handed it to her. A week later she was picked up by Ford and I was approached by an agent to test models. My work has been published by magazines worldwide including: GQ, Esquire, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Max, Playboy and others.

Key to being a great photographer : Creating a photograph is a very exciting journey for me. Inspiration is all around us and there is no one right way to approach the creative process. The way an image looks is entirely up to you. On a fashion shoot you are pretty much responsible for everything. The number one job of a fashion photographer is to sell clothes and make them look amazing. You will need to have an understanding of art. This is not inherent in everyone. You may acquire this understanding by regular visits to museums or courses in art at your local college. It is also very important to subscribe to fashion magazines (especially the ones you want your work to appear in) to start experimenting with concepts and shooting a similar style that appears in its pages. http://www.robertvoltaire.com/blog/ Interview on Robert Voltaire blog 2011

igel Baker started his career as a model at Ford, and became a successful fashion photographer and a judge at America’s NextTop Model TV Show. In a unique interview he tells about his photography and inspiriting career. Nigel, where did you learn photography, how long have you been a photographer? I learned the techniques of photography by trial and error. As a teenager I took photos at school but my main interest was fashion. I was a science student by force and a fashion student by choice. However it was all very useful. Having applied to medical school in London I took a year off and tried my luck at modeling. It opened my eyes up to traveling and what actually goes on during photo shoots with a whole variety of photographers and talent
09
Which companies or publications have you recently supplied photos to? Last year took me to South Africa, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Morocco, not to mention all over the USA. I of course travel with “America’s Next Top Model” but partly due to its International success I have been fortunate to be booked for assignments in many foreign locales. I shot for Ralph Lauren, Express, Land’s End, Elle Girl Magazine, Zink Magazine, Cover Magazine, Lucky Magazine and a variety of other publications. In your opinion, what are the qualities that distinguish a gifted photographer from someone who only ‘snaps’? Almost everyone has a camera these days and you can buy a throw away camera at your local convenient store for only a few dollars. What was once a profession for only a few has become the hobby of the masses. The main
thing seems to know when you have got the shot and how to create the best conditions for that to happen. You can learn how to manipulate light at college or assist the best photographers in the world but that does not necessarily mean it will rub off on you. Confidence and having direction are extremely important and all the best-known names in our industry have distinct styles. The longest lasting images in my opinion are about the relationship between the shooter and the subject and that special moment in time. Where every day snappers manage to capture a good shot once in a while a true professional is paid to get that shot every time - no ifs or buts.
What types of assignments do you enjoy most and why? I try to approach every assignment with the same enthusiasm and gusto regardless of the subject matter. It is rarely the destination or type of job that excites me. It is the people I work with and new people I meet that make what I do so enjoyable. The people make the place so I try hard to surround myself with like minds and good people. Do you have a few tips for aspiring models? Believe in yourself and be courteous yet confidant, the rest is really up to your genes and what Mother Nature has in store for you. Watch the show! -Jonathan.L, Model Observer
