THE PROGRAM:
▰ Launched in 1996 by the Ministries of Education and Culture ▰ Aimed at installing and developing libraries in state schools at every level
▰ (In 2019 - 23 yrs »» 2 432 School libraries – there are NO cluster schools or non-cluster schools without a school library). 5

SCHOOL LIBRARIES NETWORK (SLN)
Guidelines: ▰ Networking within our school cluster and with other partners; ▰ Teamwork at school, coordinated by the school librarian, in articulation with teachers from different areas of knowledge;
▰ Specific area with adequate equipment and furniture; ▰ Updated collection (books, ebooks, magazines, videos, cd, games…)with free access and standardised processing available through an electronic catalogue;
▰ Budgetary availability for the renovation of the library collection, equipment maintenance and development of activities.

Human Resources – School Librarian Requirements
A School Librarian...
1. Is a certified librarian who also has training in teaching; 2. Is experienced and has adequate training in the school library field; 3. Attends continuous development training in ICT; 4. Shows interest in the role. 12

Partnerships & financing
▰ Municipalities and SLN sign a cooperation agreement – they have financial responsibility for the creation or renewal of the areas in primary schools.
▰ The local Public Libraries provide technical and procurement monitorisation to equip the school library and develop, in collaboration with the School Libraries team and teachers, activities to promote reading.
▰ Integrates the local library network (School+local). 14
