CED’s Chu, Tayag among 785 new DOST Jr. Iskos
By Yancy MoronBoth failure and subsequent success propelled then third year Science major students Trisha Mae Chu and Louis Andrew Tayag as they were enjoined by 783 other new scholars of the 2020 2021 Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute (DOST SEI) Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS), which saw its induction ceremony virtually last August 20.
Aside from the pandemic induced preparation of both the DOST and student aspirants for this year’s search, the process of deliberating the new scholars was taken into a different turn, as the traditional qualifying examination was opted out to usher a newer and more practical eligibility screening process, which employed DOST’s data analytics to adjudge the takers and the pertinent forms that they have submitted.

By Khim Bryan RebutaCentering on the theme, “Redefining Journalistic Information Dissemination in the Age of Misinformation,” the Teacher’s Pen (TPen), in collaboration with the College Student Council (CSC), held its maiden journalistic skills webinar training last March 19 The said activity aimed to impart journalistic skills and raise awareness regarding media literacy to the pre service teachers of Angeles University Foundation College of Education
Chu: 8th HCU Internat’l Conference
“nerve-wracking”
By Khim Bryan Rebuta Trisha Mae D Chu, BSED Science IV and Teacher’s Pen’s Editorhas this to say after successfully presenting virtually her research endeavor at the 8th Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (HCU) at Samutprakarn, Thailand on June 25, 2021, with the theme: “Research to Serve Society.”
in
Chief,Chu, along with her co presenter Jovelyn Tabago of the same specialization and Dr Jarrent Tayag as their research adviser, defended their findings in the research entitled, “Can supplementary videos affect learner motivation in
“It has been nerve wracking ” modular distance learning? An analysis using the ARCS model of motivation.” The study generally aimed to compare the level of motivation of students who use supplemental videos and those who do not during modular learning. Although the presentation proper was prerecorded, the panelists from the said university commended the team, who happened to be the only submission from Angeles University Foundation at that time
Despite the perceived nervous ness for the presentation, the CED research contingent prepared adequately for any unexpected cirumstances, including power
Chu also underscored the importance of her team’s assistance in the success of their lecture, especially the complete involvement of Dr Tayag from the conception to completion of the study and Tabago’s unwavering support despite the latter’s commitment to multiple endeavors outside the university
With this milestone in mind, Chu not just only views this as an “opportunity for career growth” as a pre service teacher, but also as a chance to also aid in service teachers in creating research that aims to promote higher learning achievement, similar to what she has already done with helping educators from her community in Mexico, Pampanga

Among the seven (7) Science majors fielded by the AUF College of Education (AUseven) for the said screening, Chu and Tayag, who initially failed in the 2018 DOST SEI Undergraduate Scholarships Examination, saw this examination as a “renewing hope” and later on emerged as one of the new Iskolar ng Agham Chu even recounted the moment when they learned that the screening will be different this time.
“Personally, masaya kasi nadagdagan yung hope mo because since grades na nga ang pagbabasehan (Personally, I am happy because I got my hopes up knowing that our grades will be the basis [for eligibility]). Tayag, having tried the exam four years ago as a non STEM graduate, further stated that he holds no pressure in his plate at this point “Nung nalaman kong grades ang basehan, parang naging ‘go with the flow’ lang ako, e Ang dami ko na ring naisip, kung anong gagawin ko sa makukuha ko, mga ganung bagay Sa awa nga ng Diyos, nakapasa tayo
(When I learned that grades will be the basis, I just went with the flow I had plenty of thoughts, like what I will do with the benefits, things like that With God’s grace, we passed)
These Angelenean JLSS scholars who will be graduating this year were
both quick to attest that they now have the responsibility to help produce graduates who are functional and scientific literate citizens who could use their scientific skills and ideas to solve the problems of the society. “We are hoping that the new generation of science scholars, regardless of their field, could do their role in using their platform as DOST scholars and impart to others the importance of science and technology not just for their lives, but also for others and the nation,” Chu furthered “Science is not just a bombardment of information, [and] knowledge I am hoping that science and technology education will flourish in this country because of the role that it plays, just like some innovations that can efficiently ease our needs and wants,” Tayag added at this juncture
JLSS scholars are set to enjoy perks, which include tuition subsidy for the remainder of their time in college, monthly stipend, book allowance, among others As a commitment to the DOST SEI’s core values of professional excellence, social responsibility, and servant leadership, the scholars in return are expected to render service to the public for two years that is covered by the said scholarship

Despite that, “great communication” between the people who became accessories with the success of their research has made a difference. “They never let go of our hands until we finished the paper,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ocampo wished the people who are also aspiring to become international research presenters like her to “not hesitate to grab it ” “If no one believes in you right now, remember that God gave you this opportunity because He knows you can,” the fourth year English major elaborated
Dr Santillan: “Comm pantries amp up foster school links”
By Yancy MoronReflective on one of the University’s core values May Malasakit sa Kapwa, officers from the AUF College of Education College Student Council (CED CSC) led by their adviser and Assistant Dean Dr Jennifer P Santillan visited the college’s adopted schools Salapungan Elementary School (SES) and Dr Clemente N Dayrit, Sr Elementary School (CLEMENDES) to establish a donation relief that is similar to the community pantries that has been set in most of the areas in the country during the pandemic, October 20, 2021.
The reliefs, rationed in the form of school supplies such as crayons, pad papers, and pencils, among others, were received by Ms. Nenita Jorquia, CLEMENDES principal, and the faculty members of SES, which then followed with the signing of a document of donation as part of Department of Education’s Standard Operating Procedures
Dr Santillan, who prompted the team to choose the useful supplies for their elementary level beneficiaries for the maximization of the allotted budget for the activity, assured that the adopted schools “acknowledged the importance of the supplies in motivating the learners and the joy that the recipients’ parents would feel when they get the supplies along with the modules Although she admitted that the council could have given more than what they did, the activity will serve as a continuation of the already strong tie between the CED community and its educational linkages.
“Such activities also strengthen the linkage with our adopted schools that work with us in many other worthy undertakings,” Dr. Santillan added.
2021 Virtual UTour hits close to home

Crisis
Few months ago, an episode from the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) got viral as some of its so called “housemates” failed to answer some questions from a quiz bee game about basic information on Philippine history One of the questions asked was about the collective name of the three martyred priests that were killed after being accused of treason and sedition
The question was supposed to be easy since it was something taught during elementary level, but the answer “MaJoHa” by one of the housemates was completely unexpected; one even answered “MarJo ” When asked what is the nickname of our national hero, Jose Rizal, one of the housemates answered “J Rizal ”
While this has garnered some ridicule and mockery by people especially in social media, it only highlighted the mistake of the education sector to remove Philippine history as a subject back in 2014 per DepEd Order No 20 These young teens became the subject of insults, but it cannot be denied that their knowledge of Philippine history, or lack thereof, is a reflection of our education system, and is an alarming indication of the educational crisis that our country faces
According to the statement of World Bank last 2021, the Philippines is facing an educational
crisis with more than 80 percent of children being unaware of “what they should know in school” This report was made based on the three international assessments that Philippines participated in Program for International Student (PISA) in 2018, the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 2019, and the first cycle of the Southeast Asia Primary Learning Metrics (SEA PLM) in 2019 This incurred the anger of the Secretary of Education Leonor Briones, who expressed that it is unfair for the World Bank to report it in that way, and even demanded an apology from them
While it is a reality that the current problems in the education system in the Philippines were already brought upon by the previous administration, which Secretary Briones used as an argument in response to the viral clip of the housemates from PBB, it is also a reality that our education system is experiencing a crisis, and no amount of pointing the blame on somebody else will eradicate the existing issue The real disaster happens when people do not realize that they are in the midst of a crisis.
The pandemic only added oil to the fire as the country was forced to transition to online classes Online classes became the anchor of hope for the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education to continue on with the classes despite thousands of people dying from CoViD 19 and being laid off from work However, to parents trying to make ends meet, it became an add
itional burden to students, it became an anchor that weighed the deeper in the ocean to drown Not everyone was blessed to be riding a yacht with an internet connection and laptop needed for online classes, some were barely holding on to a log with just a cellphone or even no resources at all
It is in these times that students, full of anxiety for the present and the future, that they turn to social media Social media has become the main source of information, and unfortunately, many students, including adults, do not know how to discern real and fake information on the internet The internet has become the platform for these people to vent their frustrations and has become the breeding ground for misinformation and disinformation Much like how the recent
issue of Ella Cruz’s statement calling history “personal opinion” and lessened it to a mere “tsismis”, when rigorous approaches are done in order to validate the authenticity and credibility of the source
There is so much going on on the internet that it became harder to determine which is real and which is fake. Even history is being distorted by people in social media through amassing the resources that they have to further their agenda The country is now a battlefield of information The Department of Education
needs to step up, take the helm, and improve their strategies on ensuring that students learn to discern information, and to actively seek correct information If this trend continues and nothing is done, our society will collapse in the future We are in a crisis. It is time for us to realize it.

OPINION
Children with disabilities are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups not only in the society but most of all, in the education system Even though they attend school, they are still less likely to finish primary or secondary education Thus, this implies that not only there is lack of attention in their education, but they also receive unfair terms when it comes to opportunities, which they are often denied of.
Inclusive education is an education system that includes all the students and accommodates them whoever they are and whatever abilities or disabilities they have Students are given equal opportunities to learn, which means ensuring that the teaching strategies, curriculum, as well as the learning environment including the school facilities and materials, are able to accommodate all children regardless of gender, race, religion or disability Inclusive education means all children learn together in the same schools Advocating for inclusion is one of the many forms of helping students to be completely integrated into an accepting community All humans are given rights, which include rights to education. Hence, I am writing this to emphasize how inclusion plays a major role to improve learning for all, to advocate that no child should be left behind, to promote understanding, to reduce prejudice, to strengthen social integration, and to ensure that everyone could contribute economically and socially to the community
An extensive promotion of inclusive education can expand and intensify social relations and consciousness from all over the world With the use of media and technology, many individuals can be enlightened on the significance of inclusion and be advocates as well Utilizing social media to advocate inclusivity will help advance the movement because it functions as a major platform to spread awareness about inequality and prejudice in the society, which is a result of the lack of inclusion in the education sector, which in turn reflects in our society as a whole. Media fosters the ability to help people connect with each other as well as break the divisions between people, such as the individual differences people have in connection with the promotion of inclusiveness. Moreover, this can create different organizations that will further support the said advocacy not only locally, but globally The United Nations already saw the need to advocate for inclusion, with their Fourth Sustainable Development Goal reflecting on obtaining a quality education that is the foundation to creating sustainable development Policymakers can make various laws regarding
Communication is the key
By Pink Penelopy FloresThe past few months have been a testing of the strength of the bonds between people and the values that they uphold And it seems that if our values do not align with one another, we go for the extreme and cut off that person from our life As if the years spent together was nothing but an echo of what once was a loud orchestra of beautiful memories
Perhaps it was justifiable, perhaps it was too much. Social media has been the platform in which opinions lie on the absolute spectrum absolute good and absolute evil. If you choose the side of the oppressor, tax evader, thief, you are evil. If you choose accountability, transparency, then you are good. I too, believed in the same things. Even though a few months have already passed by after the results of the elections were released, I am still in utter shock. How could our nation lose such a person for presidency, when all that she has done was for the nation? How could we fail ourselves that way?
eliminating disparities of all kinds, especially laws that show support to children with special needs If these laws are strengthened, it will lead to the rise of the economy Inclusive education will help reduce poverty as well as help promote equality and equity for all Inclusive can also be utilized to remove division of religion in school contexts. As inclusive education promotes inclusivity to all, including religion, this prevents divisions, conflicts, and challenges that are not properly addressed. Since students with different religious backgrounds are accommodated in a single class, they will have the opportunity to understand that no religion is superior to the other; thus, promoting acceptance and respect This is why an inclusive classroom acts as a supportive environment for all learners, including those with learning differences An inclusive environment not only promotes acceptance, but it also challenges and engages gifted and talented learners by building a more responsive learning environment which is free from discrimination and prejudice
Inclusive education allows for children to be part of the community and develop a sense of belonging, becoming better prepared for life in the community as children and when they grow into adults. As a future teacher, this movement made me realize my purpose in life, which made me strive harder to study. One day, I will not only be a mere advocate of inclusion, but also be able to apply it as a teacher in the classroom As children are the hopes of tomorrow, we, the typical ones, should first see them, and hear them They are in need of people like us who will make them feel and allow them to be included everywhere and will accept them no matter what kind of disability they have We cannot remove the diversity of people in our society, all we have to do is accept everyone despite the differences that we have because that is what makes the world beautiful Without these differences, we will not be able to appreciate how people with visual impairments see the world and how people who are mute shouts their hopes and dreams. Unless people with disabilities are accounted for, inclusive societies cannot be built and the promise of a better future will never be realized. As responsible citizens of the society, we must always look for the beauty in every person We must be looking at the ability behind the disability of everyone disability, not only with the physical, but with the other aspects of a human person With this kind of acceptance and respect to everyone, we will surely have a future world where no disparity, division and inequality will be present, instead, love, unity, justice, equality, and non violence is superior Let us all hope for a better future Let us all start the better tomorrow from ourselves
That is right But in a time where everyone is ready to speak out, what we want to say rarely matters anymore It’s how we say it
Perhaps, it was because of focusing too much on the absolute good and evil that we really matters. A nation everyone, through mutual understanding, walks towards the same goal But how can we walk together if we have divided beliefs? This is where mutual understanding comes in. Understanding only happens when there is communication, and in return, communication only happens when both sides are ready to listen We were ready to spit out facts We were ready to speak out against the injustices done, and that is okay.
In a country where majority of the population is in the low income class, not everyone has access to the facts that we share, and it is probably the reason why most of us push for “educating” people, but even in education, and as future teachers, we do not merely teach our students facts, we teach them compassion, empathy, and values We teach our students humanity In our pursuit of being correct, we forgot how to be human
Even as I write this, I too am guilty of what I have mentioned above. In fact, it does not matter which side you were on. This is for everyone who wishes for a better country, for a better future. I hope that in the next six years, we learn how to communicate to listen, to speak kindly, and to understand.
Gender Inclusivity and Anti-Discrimination: Impose to All Institutions
By Kyla Rhose RamosL
ately, the issue of not allowing students to dress according to who they are during their graduation became like a wildfire spreading in the social media If in case you're wondering, I am straight, but I still support the LGBTQIA+ community and I participate in different advocacies to strengthen their rights
You do not have to be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community to understand them, you just need an eye that sees equality Staying up late at night and spending hours sitting in class are struggles which are central to a student’s life For students, this is what they have all known and experienced during their life in school Why is it that we chose to be a hindrance for this dream to happen just because they look different from what they are expected to be? On the issue of Kendi, Nicole, Jade and Rey
transwomen, I totally disagree with the idea of not letting them participate in the graduation because of their long hair. I think it is absurd We teach students to be humane, to stop discriminating, yet we do not practice it ourselves I think that students must be allowed to wear and dress their identity and express themselves before, during, and even after their graduation What they achieved has nothing to do with how they look According to DepEd Order No. 32, education department officials must impose zero tolerance for all forms of violence and discrimination Hence, teachers and other staff must not hinder an individual from expressing themselves even during regular days because it is their right and freedom.
Physical appearance does not actually equate to the abilities and possibilities that they possess Not allowing them to express themselves is like caging them to a painful society where being a part of LGBTQIA+ community is a crime and gender expression is unwelcomed. Graduating from school is a once in a lifetime experience which any student will look forward to after countless years of sleepless nights and silent cries On this special event, no one should stop them from expressing themselves for as long as you show it with decency and respect. Thus, DepEd, alongside with other educational institutions and agencies, must work together in building policies that implement gender inclusivity and expression inside school premises.

As much as territorial claims are an important and sensitive issue that circulates nation to nation and territory to territory, I firmly believe that it is pivotal and essential to consider the settlement of the maritime dispute over the two conflicting countries As the Philippines won the Haarbitration award in 2016, the claim of historical ownership of China over much of the South China Sea was invalidated. However, China resisted and rejected the ruling over the territorial claims and ownership,
hence, continuing its so called nine dash line claim to the region
Recently, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian outrageously claimed that the Philippines has been conducting “illegal provocative activities” in the West Philippine Sea in which the Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confounded the spokesperson’s pronouncement If assessed, I think that the Philippines has the right to conduct patrolling over the maritime features of the territory including the Panatag Shoal because of what the law imposed over the territorial claims China does not own the West Philippine Sea Corollary to the aforementioned, the Arbitral Tribunal unanimously awarded the arbitration award favorable to the Philippines However, the Arbitral Tribunal did not decide who really owned the maritime features and territories in the West Philippine Sea. Still, the fact that the Philippines has received the arbitration award, I believe that
our country is entitled and allowed to conduct monitoring over the territory Also, there is no formal pronouncement or final decision that China really owned the West Philippine Sea, hence, the Chinese should not claim the maritime features, and should not deprive Philippines from monitoring it.
Given the baseless claims to the monitoring of the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea, Zhao has been labeling Philippines’ act of patrolling as infringement on the sovereignty and security of China It seems to me that the
Zhao’s baseless pronouncements over the issue are all lies Failure to deflate the lies will indeed allow China to abuse their power and continue to overstep their authority It is imperative for the Philippines to take actions and refute the falsified claims
With that being said, I firmly believe that the Philippines should strongly resist the lies that China claims so that the rift between the seas will be put to an end Thus, zeroing on the Chinese Sovereignty to Philippine Territories will also be achieved

Basic Anatomy of a CED Student
ByAsk children what profession they want to take in the future and often they will tell you: "a teacher ” Many have dreamt of joining the field, but only a few pursued it Some people say that a teacher can build thousands of dreams only by using chalk and a blackboard. However, have you ever imagined how teachers become teachers? And how their bodies became useful tools to paint one's career in life?
These are the parts of a teacher education student's body that have significance and are the key to continuing one's education, motivate others, and to be somehow the best educator in the future Although a student may find themselves in a variety of situations and positions over the course of their academic career, these are the components that are essential to their success.
To begin, education students have a mind for their studies, allowing them to have the capability of accessing information from all around the globe As a direct consequence of possessing this talent, they are able to breeze through school, get exceptional scores, and build a successful life for themselves. This is where classroom techniques, strategies, and various lessons that each CED student learned is stored
Second, there are the eyes, which are globular organs located in the skull that allow vertebrate animals and humans to see Most humans have one pair of eyes, but did you know that these future educators have an extra pair? You heard it right! As a CED student is nearing the end of their academic career, they have grown extra eyes on the back of their head. They serve the sole purpose of catching students who misbehave when they think their teacher is not looking Kidding aside, these eyes can also see the bright future that lies ahead for their students They also see the skill of their students through their given tasks every day
A CED student has ears, which are the organs that permit hearing and, in humans, allows for bodily balance via the use of the vestibular system Ears are very important body parts to a CED student. They are the entrance of each knowledge that they learn all the years Their ears could not just hear stories and information, but also help them to listen to their future students a future educator
The fourth body part is a mouth within the skull that is fashioned like an oval chamber. Eating and speaking are the two primary activities of the mouth, which is also done with the help of the tongue, a skeletal muscle organ in the mouth that contributes in the functions of eating, speaking, and breathing One might say

“Oh, you are taking up education? You must be talkative!” For some, this may be an insult, but for a CED student, this statement is very much true CED students are talkative in a way that they are using their mouths for others to learn. What would happen if a teacher would not use his mouth to teach his students? Will his students learn? Definitely not Thus, this body part is a staple for all CED students
For the last three body parts of the anatomy of a CED student, there are the hands that are known as the terminal part of the vertebrate forelimb They are able to engage in a wide variety of activities, including touching, grasping, feeling, holding, manipulating, and even softly caressing the items they are working with. The hands of CED students are full of tricks that will exemplify their willingness to help others as future educators These hands are also the ones who will push their future students to be motivated, to learn, and to do encourage them to do whatever their heart desires
We also have the feet as a part of a CED student. Their feet are always ready to run for their dreams and passion to teach Their feet will also run and walk with their tudents to accompany them to the path that they have chosen for themselves. These eet will be the ones who will stay at the behind their students, cheering them as the hey take their desired goals in life
Lastly, and most importantly, is the heart This muscle is at the hub of the irculatory system and is responsible for distributing and pumping blood to the rest of a person’s body This blood is responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body, as well as eliminating waste products and carbon dioxide that are no onger required Without a heart, a CED student would not exist Because the heart is what allows people to be people They are the center of life that gives rise to a wide range of emotions, including pleasure, enthusiasm, and melancholy The heart motivates the students to work hard in order to reach their dreams, whether that inspiration comes from having a heart full of love or from the desire of a student to learn more
Hence, a teacher is not "just a teacher", for they craft dreams manually using their knowledge and body College of Education students truly are mirrors of the University's "Mabuti, Magaling, at May malasakit sa Kapwa" in embodying persistence and dedication in the field of teaching They invest time and effort to build their characters and be effective teachers in the future With no doubt, they can build a generation of successful people of whom they will inspire As I quote from Judy Blume, "our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch"

Six Years Apart
By Christian Jan DaysonM
ay 9, 2016 For a 13 year old like me, this day seems normal, yet this is a momentous event the Philippines has been waiting for after six long years as it symbolizes hope and an opportunity to change for the better
The scorching summer heat didn't hinder the Filipinos from going to their designated precinct, falling in line, exercising their right to choose, and acquiring the indelible ink, typifying the power vested to them by the country.
It was election day, where the qualified ones should elect the righteous candidates to serve the national and local posts, aiming to be in the service of our fellow citizens
What does it feel like to be a voter? What does it feel like to fall in line, vote, and be part of the change? Why is it integral to exercise our rights to suffrage and vie for the ink in a democratic country?
It is so vivid in my memory that these questions linger in my mind as I aspire to be a voter someday
Six years later, the big day for me finally arrived
came with a similar heated atmosphere, yet as a first time voter, unprecedented feelings of curiosity, excitement, and fear went over my body
According to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), more than 7 million first time voters participated together with the other 60 4 million Filipinos, registering an all time high of 67.4 million registered voters and resulting in a historic 83.18% voting turnout this year.
As supported by Article 5, Section 1 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, suffrage may be exercised by the citizens of the Philippines, who are at least 18 years old and have lived within the country for at least one year, and resided in their appointed voting place six months before the election
The Election 2022 had its numerous firsts due to the presence of the ongoing pandemic Following the guidelines released by the COMELEC, polls shall accommodate voters from 6 am to 7 pm. The said constitutional commission extended the voting hours due to social distancing measures.
check their polling precinct via COMELEC's online precinct finder. They should also bring a pen and a list to avoid mishaps on their ballots They must be wearing their facemask at all times to prevent the spread of the virus
When it comes to their polling place, voters shall undergo necessary steps, from temperature check, identification process, filling the ballots to casting their votes
With all these, what is it like to be a first time voter in the Philippines? Here are some of the encounters and the shift of emotions I had as I practiced my right to vote:
Patience It served as my armor as I waited for my turn in the sea of other voters aiming to make an impact through their votes
Obedience. Since there is a health crisis, adherence to the protocols and guidelines is a must for a safe and orderly undertaking of the elections
Excitement As I was seated on my appointed seat, I felt ecstatic as I held the marking pen and shaded my ballot
May 9, 2022 At 19, the same day Moreover, voters are advised to Fear. Aside from the excitement,
I had a sense of fear of making a mistake as I went through the voting process
Hope Amidst the mix of emotions, as a youth and a future of our country, I aspire that as I cast my vote, it will illuminate hope for our country
Fulfillment After hours of waiting, I was able to color my ballot with pride, cast my vote successfully, and savor the feeling of being a part of the change.
To sum it all up, my experience as a first time voter might be unconventional There were a lot of shocking events, but the six years of waiting were all worth it When I registered my vote, I immediately knew that my voice mattered May 2028 As we elect the officials that will serve the country, it takes another six years for us to encounter the same significant event of going to the polls and casting our votes
Amidst the possible hindrances, may we, especially first time voters, register, show up on the next election day, and fulfill our role as Filipinos. Let your vote be the catalyst for a progressive Philippines as we wait for another six years

By Matias Bernal JrWhy Don’t Stars Stand Still Forever? Why Don’t Stars Stand Still Forever?
By Yancy MoronIt took me over a while to comprehend why stars are not in a constant display like a canvas a static view of these illuminating specks of light conspiring to create a masterpiece afloat forever. We definitely are in awe when we see them scattered in a vacuum, giving life to a once dead nothingness. But on the flip side, sadness would often visit us when we see some changes in the night sky, whether these stars are away from the flickers that we see from them or we see a different pattern, one that seems to be out of our fantasy. But as we revolve around our lives and learn things that we hardly could swallow, we have learned ways to understand these incorrigible changes, because as we also do, stars and the constellations that they form are bound to be dynamic. Stars also shine their brightest for other people to see as people learn to not give a crap about what other people would say, as they are their own rules and they started to own them. Stars are not present as people sometimes feel the need to shy away from the vision of others to take a break and heal from the noises outside. Ultimately, stars also show different patterns in seasons as people have to move on with their lives, like how they are on a journey. Sometimes, the hope is not on the exact spot you expected it to be, but upon letting go and leaving everything moving forward, you will find another spot along the way where the exact feeling still lies.
Out the misty sea, I rove in a voyage Eyes searching for light, found glitters above Compass and astrolabes, my hands know nothing What I only have are the stars and my little heart

Mighty waves might reach my heart The winds might threaten my sail But as long as they reach not the stars Nothing can drown the map I dreamt about Daring as it may be, but I’ll row over!

CallforResponsetotheReal-lifeHeroes: TheFilipinoFarmers
All the Filipino people and even other countries have witnessed how difficult the trials caused by the pandemic have been This has had a huge negative impact on our economy as well as on the agricultural sector As a consumer, you may have experienced purchasing imported products such as rice, vegetables, fruits, etc., but continuing to consume these products has adverse effects on our farmers
Our farmers are one of the most important contributors of a large part of our economy because they are the ones who continue to work hard to grow rice, corn, sugarcane, vegetables and fruits, etc under the steep sun rays even in pouring rain and whipping storms However, the hardships and sacrifices made by the farmers to continuously supply food to every Filipino citizen does not seem to be given enough response so that they also get the proper value of their products Farmers' products, such as rice, are only bought in small amounts from ten pesos to twelve pesos (Php10 00 Php12 00) from them With such a small amount, our farmers are undeniably suffering from empty pockets This is one of the reasons why from rice farming, they switch to vegetable or fruit farming An important example is the ongoing tragedy of one of the Philippines' unique resources the Banaue Rice Terraces Due to the fact that most of us do not support the products of our farmers, the
demand for their products in the market decreases. Low product demand but continuous increase in supply means lower price. The low price of their products drives farmers to seek other sources of income. Some farmers go out to the cities to look for work while others change their crops. The amazing beauty of Banaue Rice Terraces is slowly disappearing because the indigenous farmers there are already changing crops Rice, then, has been replaced by vegetables, but the planting of new types of crops has encouraged worms and other pests that have caused the destruction of vegetables As a result, the government has taught Igorots and Ifugao farmers how to operate fish ponds that caused the green color of the Banaue Rice Terraces to gradually disappear as it is filled with fisheries
Perhaps, others think that the price of rice in the market is high because farmers sell it at a high price But that is contrary to reality. As a Filipino citizen, I am one of those who ask: “Why is the price of rice still high in the market if it can only be bought at a low price from farmers?”
Sometimes, it is surprising that a sudden increase in the price of rice occurs even when there is no disaster at all This is because some traders are hoarding the supply of rice to decrease supply in the market which will result in increased de
By: Jovelyn Tabagomand and increased price They only release it when the price of rice in the market has risen Therefore, the increase in the price of farmers' products in the market cannot be blamed on our farmers because they are also suffering from the unrighteous price of their products That is why we should give them enough attention and respond to their current situation to help our economy grow more. We should further conduct research on the best planting methods or strategies to grow crops and increase production, select and produce best crops according to demand and overall farm conditions, and give local farmers adequate funding., etc. It is also appropriate to distribute seeds to our farmers that they can plant and grow Also, let’s help them keep up with modern technologies that can be used in farming to further increase production.
As a Filipino, you can do a lot to help our farmers. One of the most helpful actions we can do is to patronize locals Let us patronize Filipino products, the products of our farmers to increase its demand and supply in the market because increasing demand and supply in the market means that our farmers will be able to sell their products at higher amount, higher than ten or twelve pesos (P10 P12) a fair amount for everyone We can also help by taking
care of our environment Nature is the main source of farmers because it is the source of their livelihood which is also the source of our basic needs By simply planting trees and plants, disposing of garbage in proper containers, avoiding the use of plastics, avoiding burning garbage (participating in the garbage collection program), we are helping to prevent global warming and rapid climate change that cause numerous negative effects on the crops of our farmers as well as that of the other countries all over the world.
Although we came from different life backgrounds, we have only one goal to live in peace and prosperity Although we, ourselves, have not experienced farming, surely, we have experienced working hard for our families That is what we have in common with Filipino farmers who continue to work to make a living for their families Let us hear their grievances Let’s not just shrug our shoulders at the problems they face because they are one of the main reasons why we have food served at our table. Their hard work and sacrifices in planting different crops save every citizen from hunger, filling every rumbling stomach Farmers who are simple people to call but real heroes to consider As caring Filipinos, we have the ability to help as much as we can Big or small actions, when put together, we can improve the livelihood of every Filipino farmer the real life heroes
Topic of Great Importance in the Philippines and The World: CoViD-19 Vaccine
Covid 19 vaccine was made due to the spread of
that killed millions of
all over the world With this, the solution that experts came up with, through the help of Science
is
that would help fight against the corona virus from attacking and weakening our immune system. However, despite this intention in the production and distribution of Covid 19 vaccine, people have concerns about its adverse effects on an individual’s body. We cannot deny the fact that due to lack of knowledge, people are having doubts with regard to the effect of the said vaccine, whether it would protect their body or it would put their health at risk Nonetheless, with all these debates that people have in mind, the World Health Organization (WHO) ensures that the Covid 19 vaccines that would be distributed are safe and effective by ensuring that these vaccines went through thorough processes and rigorous clinical trials. According to the World Health Organization, they are not allowing the distribution of Covid 19 vaccines that are not rigorously tested and not yet proven effective The World Health Organization added that the Covid 19 vaccines are designed to train our immune system, especially our body cells, to develop immune responses that recognize and fight against the corona virus that attacks our body Covid 19 vaccine contains genetic information about the corona virus which will then train our cells how to make protein that triggers an immune response, leading to the production of antibodies, soldiers that protect our body from getting infected if the real virus enters our bodies
Currently, vaccines have been distributed to some of the areas in the Philippines and some of our fellow Filipinos have been vaccinated already. First in line who already received the vaccine are the policemen, one of our brave frontliners. So far, there is no recorded death due to Covid 19 vaccine.
Every Filipino is now encouraged to get vaccinated so that the pandemic can gradually stop and to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus Let us be wise in our decisions because everyone's life is important. Every problem has a solution and the solution we have now with Coronavirus disease is the Covid 19 vaccine To my fellow Filipinos, it is better to have partial protection than having no protection at all

SEA GAMES RECAP:
PH OVERCOMES PANDEMIC WOES, CLINCHES THE FOURTH SPOT
ByAfter the glorious top finish of Team Philippines in Manila in 2019 with a 149 117 119 gold silver bronze medal haul, the Philippine Delegation maintained momentum after copping 52 gold, 70 silver, and 105 bronze medals in the 31st South East Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam last May.
Amidst the delays and controversies in their preparations brought by the ongoing pandemic,

Two days after, Carlos Yulo, dubbed as "Golden Boy," lived up to expectations as he executed his winning ways in Artistic Gymnastics, harvesting five golds (all around, floor exercise, horizontal bar, vault, and still rings) and two silvers (team event and parallel bars), proving his supremacy as the most bemedalled athlete

Despite clinching the silver medal, Filipina swimmer Jessica Geriane smashed the national record in the 50 meter backstroke category, clocking 29.35 seconds
Drought Breakers

Big Ball, Small Opportunity
by Adrian Poul Blando"I did it myself."
Selfish as it sounds, seeing this as the motivation of an athlete would let you see perspectives Jade Camille Banal, a 22 year old Bicolana, who once was a student athlete, proved that her journey as a table tennis player is not just a smash and play road, but it is the game of her life
Jade started spinning the ball when she was still 12 years old Unlike the typical kids nowadays who will just play Roblox at that age, Banal started to practice how to play sports But, the journey of becoming a table tennis player is not her own decision to play it is her destiny that brought her to hold these small rackets. Banal started playing on a big court: volleyball At time, she thought that playing with a high net was already the breakthrough she was seeking However, due to an injury, she decided to rest Thinking that she might lose the chance to play again, she pulled herself to watch a practice game that would transform her into whoever she is right now Innocently watching, her teacher approached, and asked the life changing question: “Why not you try it out?”. With that, her tennis baller experience already started.
Her balling journey grew as she was able to travel in her region with her teammates Since elementary, winning is no longer new to her In fact, she was able to prove herself in her college’s university after bouncing against another department of AUF as she bagged a silver medal for the university games. However, winning is not her crown and glory. This is actually the force that keeps her bouncing and becoming better
Until now, this sport has had an impact on her She believed that if sports become part of your identity, it is already your identity. Just like her, she made herself identified in this field.
Small ball but bigger opportunity You will never know how life will play you Just keep playing
