Mastering Maths: Early Operations Intr oduction Introduction Mathematics should be part of every child’s day - something to be enjoyed as they become confident of their skills and ability to solve mathematical problems and apply these problems to everyday life. The development of skills is particularly important as the child is introduced to the first formal mathematical concepts.
Teac he r
ew i ev Pr
r o e t s Bo r e p ok u S This book has been designed to provide young children with interesting
and attractive activities to develop these early mathematical skills and knowledge. The pages encourage children to explore basic mathematical concepts, with a variety of well planned, easy to follow worksheets. They are structured so that children can develop an understanding of mathematical concepts through practice and repetition.
© ReadyEdPubl i cat i ons •f orr evi ew pur posesonl y•
The activity sheets are preceded by some sample flash cards which can be constructed and placed around the room for easy reference by children. In addition, practice in the writing of numerals is provided in the form of practice sheets following the “look, trace and write” method of instruction.
. te
Page 4
m . u
w ww
The worksheets themselves are arranged sequentially to build on the children’s prior knowledge, but can be used individually to support other material. They are an excellent means of introducing a concept as the graphics and artwork is both attractive and appealing to children. Each mathematical concept introduced has several activities which provides for reinforcement and revision of a concept, as well as remediation and evaluation
