Children have always loved the challenge of word-find or search puzzles, crossword puzzles and crack-the-code type puzzles. We have endeavoured to create a variety of new puzzles for children to enjoy and at the same time be extended in the areas of vocabulary building and logic.
There are 10 different puzzle formats in this book and these are repeated 4 times to allow children to develop their confidence and build on their success rate. They can be used as a whole-group lesson or for smallgroup work. They are also ideal for use in classrooms which make use of individual learning centres.

Puzzle Power Book 2
Alphabet Challenge Use playing cards 2-8 from a pack (28 cards altogether). Each player has a copy of the Alphabet sheet below. All begin at the letter ‘A’. The teacher/leader shuffles the cards then turns the top card over. Players write this number in the ‘value column’ beside the letter and then write a word with the corresponding number of letters, e.g. ‘3’ could be ‘ant’. This card is put to one side and another card turned for letter ‘B’. Continue this process through the alphabet. Once every letter has been used players correct their sheet by colouring in the ‘value’ of each word they wrote correctly, e.g. ‘ant’ would score 3 points. Add up all the coloured numbers and record the total.
