Teachers’ Notes The activities in this book are arranged sequentially so that there is on-going revision and consolidation of the phonic blends. There are two parts to each activity: 1. A list of words which use the new blend.
r o e t s Bo r e p ok u S
A second column develops writing skills by requiring the children to trace over the blends while the third column allows them to write the words in full. A column of pictures aids word recognition by providing visual clues.

2. In addition to the blends introduced in the first part, the sentences provide opportunities for consolidation of learning. Revised blends are listed in a box (marked “+”) at the start of each activity. It is anticipated the students will eventually be able to determine the appropriate blends to insert, but of course, teachers will decide the degree of assistance the children will need.
This section enables teachers to continually assess the student’s grasp of the blends and their ability to apply them to everyday language.

National Outcome Links
m . u
There are three revision activities (headed “Try To Remember”), each of which is based upon the previous six blends. These sheets can be used by teachers as specific assessment tools. Again the students are required to trace over some of the blends, while in other instances they select the correct ones to insert, using the language and picture clues provided. To facilitate accurate records there are ten selections to be made in each “Try To Remember” revision activity.
The activities in this book are linked to the following National Outcome Statements as set down in the curriculum document English – A curriculum profile for Australian schools schools.
