Teachers’ Notes The structure of this second “Phonics Blends” book is basically the same as Book One. Each activity has a list of words which contain its focus blend. The second column contains the same list with the blend in a dotted font. By tracing over the dots the structure of the blend is reinforced and writing skills are developed. In the third column the children are required to copy each word.

r o e t s Bo r e p ok u S

In the second part of the activity the focus blend is stated at the top of the page. The “+” box contains a list of other blends which are being revised. In some cases the children simply need to trace over the dots to complete the words. In others they are required to decide which blend from the box at the top of the page must be used to complete the words. To assist children in deciding which blends must be used;

ew i ev Pr

Teac he r

Rhyme is used in this second book for two reasons:

To reinforce the concept that identical sounds are often spelled differently.

In some activities it has been necessary to use words which children have possibly not previously encountered in their reading experiences. Because teachers may wish to teach the recognition of those words at the beginning of a lesson they are shown in bold in the text.

Revision

© ReadyEdPubl i cat i ons •f orr evi ew pur posesonl y•

There are three revision activities (headed “Try To Remember”), each of which is based upon the preceding blends. These sheets can be used by teachers as specific assessment tools. Again the students are required to trace over some of the blends, while in other instances they select the correct ones to insert, using the language and picture clues provided.
