Continents and oceans In this section of Beginning Geography, students learn about the seven continents and five oceans of the world.

Reproducible activity pages

r o e t s Bo r e p ok u S

Teac he r

There are 21 activity pages that cover seven continents and five oceans. Following an introduction to all the continents and oceans, there are two activity pages for each continent. The first page is an introduction with facts and an activity, and the second page is a physical map of the continent. Page 72 provides a detailed table of contents for the Continents and oceans section.

ew i ev Pr

NOTE: The activity pages are intended for direct instruction of the whole class or small groups. Read the statement of the concept being presented and the activity directions to the students. For students at lower reading levels, it is recommended that you also read the activity items together.

Assessments

Three reviews (pages 94−96) follow the skill activity pages. These pages may be used as a review or as a formal assessment of students’ skill acquisition. The review pages vary in difficulty. Choose one or more that are appropriate to your students’ needs.

Around the world with animals The final section of Beginning Geography focuses on the variety of animal life around the world. There is a world map followed by a map of each continent that shows examples of the animal life found in various regions of that continent.

How to use

r o e t s Bo r e p ok u S

You may use these maps in a number of ways:

Teac he r

• in conjunction with the study of each continent in Section 3—learning where interesting animals are found can help to engage students and enrich your geography studies

ew i ev Pr

• as a reference to science in the areas of biodiversity and ecosystems • as a springboard to nonfiction reading and writing on animal life.
