Rt. Hon Nicky Morgan, Secretary of State for Education, and Minister for Women and Equalities Nicky was elected for the Loughborough seat for the Conservatives in the 2010 General Election. Nicky has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Rt. Hon David Willetts MP; Cabinet Minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills; and before that she was a member of the BIS Select Committee. She served as an Assistant Whip in the coalition government, until her appointment as Economic Secretary to the Treasury on 7 October 2013. Thursday 30 July 09.00 - 10.15 Day two allows us to consider the breadth of the challenges we face and the power we have as a national movement for change.
Javed Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Barnardo’s Javed brings a unique perspective to the event both from his career as a teacher and his time in the voluntary sector working with the most vulnerable. There are many facets to the challenge of narrowing the gaps in education; hear why the Fair Education Alliance is integral to tackling these challenges. Javed has 28 years’ experience in the UK public and voluntary sectors, and has a track record of successfully managing change through key high profile leadership roles. Javed joined the leading children’s charity Barnardo’s in May 2014 as Chief Executive Officer. Barnardo’s runs over 900 services in local communities, including support for children who have been sexually exploited, young people leaving the care system, children with a parent in prison and families struggling to cope.
Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive Officer, Stonewall Stonewall is the largest gay equality body in Europe. Ruth was formerly President of the Oxford University Student Union, and became the first British Fellow of the Marshall Memorial Fellowship in 2011 in recognition of her ability to campaign for social change. Ruth leads Stonewall’s work on policy development and strategic influencing, in particular developing strategic partnerships with organisations across the public and private sector. She has led work with organisations such as the Ministry of Defence, the UK Border Agency, the Home Office and Accenture. Ruth will explore the power of social movements and how to really drive and implement change, speaking from her wealth of experience in campaigning for social change.
Jessica Hall, Skegness Grammar School Jess has just finished year 12, during which she has taken English Literature, History, Philosophy and Politics AS levels. She’s busily researching opportunities to pursue once her school days are over and top of the list at the moment is studying for a degree in Comparative Literature. Alongside this aspiration is an intention to travel and learn in other parts of the world. Anyone with great ideas to support these dreams should definitely find her and pass on their wisdom.
CBI Debate: Is business failing the next generation? Thursday 30 July 16.30 - 18.00 The Impact Conference will close with two very different sessions at the first direct arena. Firstly, we bring you a crucial debate for the future of our students as we ask ‘Is business failing the next generation?’, brought to life by an outstanding panel of business leaders and educators as part of the Great Business Debate, a CBI-led campaign to build public confidence in business. We look forward to your contributions via social media and interactive polling throughout.

He is Chairman Designate at Bibby Line Group and Non-executive Director of Essentra Plc, Chairman of the national Skills Funding Agency Advisory Board, a board member of the CBI and of Business in the Community, Chairman of BitC’s Education Leadership Team and a member of the Trinity College Dublin Business School Advisory Board. Steven Cooper Chief Executive Officer, Personal Banking Personal and Corporate Bank, Barclays PLC Steven is accountable for all aspects of Personal Banking, which includes Community Banking (covering Branch and Telephony channels), transactional business, consumer lending, insurance, direct investing and savings capabilities for all personal banking customers, private clients, intermediaries and international. Steven has over 25 years’ experience in banking across the UK, Africa and India, and sits on the Personal and Corporate Banking Executive Committee.
Professor Sir John Holman Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, University of York Sir John is also Senior Education Adviser to The Wellcome Trust. After studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, he taught chemistry in secondary schools for 35 years, spending six years as Head Teacher at Watford Grammar School for Boys. In 2000 he left this post to become the Salters Professor of Chemical Education and Director of the Science Curriculum Centre at the University of York. From 2004-2010, Sir John was Centre Director at the National Science Learning Centre in York. In 2006 he was appointed as the Government’s first National STEM Director, with responsibility for overseeing the implementation of the STEM Programme. He has authored or co-authored nearly 20 textbooks and learning resources in science. In the 2010 New Year’s Honours he received a knighthood for services to education.

Wednesday 29 July 2015 Sessions Sara Parker Chief Membership Director, CBI Sara is responsible for the CBI’s member relations function across the UK. This responsibility involves a role on the senior management team responsible for leading the CBI’s membership activities and growth strategy. Prior to this, Sara had been the CBI’s director for member relations since November 2010, which involved running the member relationship function for all CBI members based in the South East regions and representing the London business community on key policy issues.
Ife Grillo MYP for UK Youth Parliament At sixteen years of age, Ife has a CV that most adults would envy. He has debated in the House of Commons, is the vice-chair of a national charity, mentors primary school students and has started his own organisation to encourage youth campaigning. Growing up in Hackney, he attended a Teach First partner school and was taught by some of our teachers. He credits his own education with helping him get to where he is now, and is passionate about ensuring other young people have the same opportunities to succeed.

He is currently the presenter of BBC Radio 4’s The Museum of Curiosity, a spin-off of QI. John has spent his life fascinated by the QI philosophy of curiosity, and how everyone’s natural curiosity for interestingness can be used to engage and captivate any audience – a very different presentation to what you would have seen across the two days!
